Every year, the Global Shapers Hub of San Francisco tackle one or more projects to make a positive impact on San Francisco. On October 2, 2016, the Hub hosted Project Pitch Day to pitch the projects that are currently underway to our community as a call to action to contribute time, resources, and ideas to the projects.
This year, we are helping Raphael House, who helps at-risk families achieve stable housing and financial independence, to start their Nano Degrees program for training heads of households in skills that can help them get jobs in tech.

4. Gap:
earning a
living wage
• Living Wage:
– “A wage sufficient to provide the necessities essential
to an acceptable standard of living, and provides it with
some ability to deal with emergencies, without
resorting to welfare or other public assistance.”
• Minimum Wage < Living Wage
– For a single adult a living wage in SF is $14.80
– Minimum wage in CA is $10.00*
• This disparity is one of the leading causes of
homelessness among young adults in America
*As of Jan 1, 2016 and is rising $1 every year through
2021
5. Our goal:
reverse the equation
through education
Create a ‘NanoDegree’ ecosystem for
families of Raphael House to enable
them to earn a (better) living wage by
leveraging their position in the heart of
Silicon Valley*
*17% are still unemployed upon departure from Raphael
House- room for improvement
RH has a history of lifting avg.
