Do you know what this is?
That was SEALAND
Sealand: An abandoned World War II naval base that was self proclaimed a nation in 1967. Population: 3 Size: 550m2 Currency: Sealand dollars (basically American dollars) (Above) Sealand’s “national” flag It is located 10 KM ( miles off the coast of Suffolk, England.
Micronations are small self proclaimed entities that are not recognised by any sovereign states. Don’t mix them up with microstates, which are small nations that are recognised by sovereign states. There are 62 micronations in the world. Here are some of their flags.
The Principality of Wy Paul Ashton Delprat applied to build adriveway in 1993. He waited 11 years, then went to the mayor of Mosman, whoaccepted the Formal Secession of the Principality of Wy Population: 5 Size: 700m2 Ruled by Prince Paul and Princess Susan. Subjects- their children and pet rabbits. Wy supports world peace, cosplay, Hetalia Axis Powers, fan art, artists, art and other micronations.
Why aren’t these a nation? Because it doesn’t fulfil one or more of these… Has space or territory which has internationally recognized boundaries Has people who live there on an ongoing basis. Has economic activity and an organized economy. A country regulates foreign and domestic trade and issues money. Has the power of social engineering, such as education. Has a transportation system for moving goods and people. Has a government which provides public services and police power. Has sovereignty. No other State should have power over the country's territory. Has external recognition. A country has been "voted into the club" by other countries.
Why are Micronations formed? Going against social, economic and political norm, ie Nova Roma where they re-enact Roman things For own fun, and are often on the internet and don’t survive very long, such as The Kingdom of Lovely, an attempt to create a internet location from a London flat. An exercise in fantasy, such as The Copeman Empire, run from a caravan park in Norfolk. To promote social reform, such as The Gay and Lesbian Kingdom of the Coral Sea Islands, formed in response to the government's refusal to accept same sex marriage. For doing illegal things, such as the United Kingdom of Atlantis, run by a man wanted for fraud and money laundering. Because something in law or history was misunderstood, such as the Principality of Sealand Attempts to found new countries, such as Operation Atlantis, a ship that should have been anchored in the Caribbean as territory but sank in a hurricane.
