2. Quotation 1: Ethnicity
... (My mother) told me about her mother, in 80s and in previous years, for
example in the period of Kenan Evren, because of the pressures,it was
prohibited to speak Kurdish, they had been hiding everything. They
had been trying not to speak Kurdish, the soldiers had been attacking
the Kurdish houses…then my grandmother told me the difficulties that
she had experienced about Kurdish and how she had tried to teach her
children Kurdish…My aunt also told me that because of the pressures
many people had run away to mountains…
3. Quotation 2: Family
...at the very beginning, the biggest obstacle was my family. My family did
not want to allow me to go to theater because it was a little bit far away.
Zeytinburnu was a place I did not know very well. They did not allow,
because it was dangerous. Also, since people regard art in a material
way, as they do not know this activity is in that way, that is, they do not
know what is theater, my family did not allow me to go to theater, but I
escaped, I escaped from home constantly, I went outside by lying all
the time...
...en büyük engelim ilk başta ailemdi. Ailem biraz uzak olduğu için göndermek
istemiyordu...
tiyatroya. Ama ben kaçtım sürekli kaçtım evden, hep yalan söyleyerek çıktım
evden. Yalan söyleyerek kaçtım kaçtım...
4. Quotation 3: Class position
... I was a normal worker, but this is the one who loves reading, she reads
her book whenever she is free, but she is caught by her boss. The
mechanist calls her, “come here” and, she orders a hair dye to her and
then she orders her to tidy up, there is something like struggle here. I
had played myself there; I cannot forget that role...
Orda kendimi
oynamıştım, o rolü zaten hiç unutamıyorum...
5. Quotation 5: Theatre and politics
They were planing to deconstruct the sports arena in order to build new hotels
in that area. However, when the people opposed and put their reaction, they
withdraw and build a more beautiful park. If the people did not oppose, they
would built hotels in that area which we can not make use of. We tried to
stage that the people are mistreated, they are not a mass but they are people
from different ethnicities, languages, religion. There were a Kurd, a Roman,
and a Laz on the stage, we said that they will be under pressure as long as
they continue to silence themselves, therefore we finalized the scene telling
that we should not sit down and keep silence any more, the scene was
reminding us that the state is us ourselves in the end.
