Crosswalk of Issues within a healthcare interdisciplinary team.pdf
1. Crosswalk of Issues within a healthcare interdisciplinary team
Crosswalk of Issues within a healthcare interdisciplinary teamCrosswalk of Issues within a
healthcare interdisciplinary teamA Step Toward Interdisciplinary* Practice” Assignment
The crosswalk of issues attached as a document in this section, lists nine individual roles
that are stakeholders in healthcare and what surveys/data show are their priority concerns
for 2016-2017. The first thing you may notice is there is no one category in which all agree.
In fact, the areas of consensus are really limited. Despite this diversity, the push for
interdisciplinary practice and collaboration remains on the healthcare agenda. Mutual
respect and coordination of services is certainly a worthy goal but achieving this is not so
simple. How then do we achieve the ideal collaborative practice? As with all relationship
building in life, one way is to make a sincere effort to understand the other person. For this
assignment, you will research a professional role (no staff nurses or patients). You will
explore the requirements for their education/position, their code of ethics, their
profession’s political advocacy, the responsibilities of their job, what mandates they follow,
and how their role views interprofessional collaboration. You may choose between
physician, physician assistant, CNO, CMO, hospital administrator, nurse executive (MSN
prepared or higher), managed care executive, or APRN. You may not use patients or staff
nurses. Please don’t choose a family member or friend for this assignment, the idea is learn
more about a role you don’t know well and that you currently have a lack of understanding
about specifics of their role. You may identify the role, and generic setting (for example,
Mid-Eastern Community Hospital or Mid-Eastern Trauma Hospital (no individual or facility
names should be used). Do not use the person’s real initials, use random initials. Your paper
will be informed by four specific sources. 1) Direct Interview (form attached in this section)
2) The Web Presence of their Professional Organization (What are their initiatives and
political advocacy issues? What are their position statements? Who is on their Board?) 3)
Research into the background of the role (which includes educational preparation, locating
their code of ethics, licensure or certification, entry requirements for the job,
responsibilities of the professional role, and the role’s political view or initiatives on
interprofessional collaboration) 4) Crosswalk of Issues within a healthcare interdisciplinary
teamORDER NOW FOR CUSTOMIZED, PLAGIARISM-FREE PAPERSCurrent literature (two
peer-reviewed articles on an issue identified as a priority issue for the profession from the
crosswalk and one article on interprofessional collaboration/practice related to the
professional role you chose). Articles should be published within the last three years due to
the dynamic nature of healthcare. Your objective is to teach the reader about this profession
2. so we can better understand their perspective in healthcare delivery. You will assimilate
information and elements from above and reflect and comment on the following… 1. What
is their power and influence in the administrative hierarchy? 2. The impact of that role on
the goals of the organization. 1 “A Step Toward Interdisciplinary* Practice” Assignment 3.
What did you learn that you did not know about the profession? 4. What does nursing have
in common with this role? 5. Where does nursing differ with this role? Conclude with…
What steps can nursing take to advance the interdisciplinary practice initiative as it relates
to the role you chose? Your paper for submission will incorporate the information you
gather from these sources. Use the APA template for submission. You do need an abstract
for this assignment. Be sure to address all elements throughout the instructions in this
document. This paper will be due on or before Sun. of Week 4 by 11:59 p.m. You will submit
this in the designated assignment link in week 4. *Just to clarify. Intra- is a prefix used to
form words that mean on the inside, within. Contrast this with inter- and you immediately
see the difference. While inter- deals with open systems among groups, intra- deals with
closed systems between a single group. 2 Interview Questions Interview questions: (Please
assure them only the generic role will be identified. You will not use actual names in the
assignment and responses are shared with the instructor of the course only.) This is a
general guide only. Critical thinking and scholarly inquiry would entail further exploration
of responses where warranted. 1) Inquire about how they decided to pursue the type of
work they do? K.Smith, RN-BC DNP is currently the ACOS for behavioral health department.
KS: I was always interested in the healthcare field. Upon graduating from high school, I
attended The Reading Hospital and Medical Center Operating Room Technician program
and graduated from there in one year. I realized I wanted more education and responsibility
and decided to pursue nursing. Initially I thought I would return to the OR but fell in love
with mental health-you either love it or hate it! Been working in mental health for almost 40
years. 2) What are those responsibilities on a daily basis? (an average day as much as they
can address it from that standpoint) KS: Currently as Chief of Behavioral Health Services
(BHS) and Nurse Manager for the department my days are very full. I am responsible to
ensure any follow ups from previous day report, any current crisis, following up on
Veterans who are difficult to find or not keeping appointments. Reviewing our
organizational chart and planning for staffing needs, projecting future needs, responsible
for facility BHS metrics-developing plans to ensure we meet the metrics and plans to
present if we are not meeting metrics what we will do to met them. Reviewing staff leave,
policy development. Networking with state partners-Delaware and New Jersey. Many
meetings with facility committee/groups, regional and national. 3) How do they personally
envision interprofessional collaboration among those in the delivery of healthcare services?
(That is, how do they see it working in the future? Do they see a downside? If so, what do
they think that is? What barriers do they identify?) KS: We need to accept the skillset of
each discipline and individual embrace what is brought to the table. No one knows it all.
And we need to accept-insist-that no one is better or worse. We are not physician
handmaidens. There is room and a need at the table for everyone. We must also protect our
scope of practice. 4) Do they belong to any professional organizations and, if so, which ones?
KS: ANA, DNA & ANCC-chair of the content expert panel for psychiatric-mental health
3. nursing 5) Are they politically active with issues concerning their discipline? 1 Interview
Questions KS: I do write to politicians-as asked by ANA- specifically interested in bullying.
From that list is there an area that staff nursing could work with them to increase
interprofessional collaboration on that issue, in their opinion? Please add more about
quality and safety (For example, is there a committee that needs a nursing presence that
doesn’t have one? No, a nurse is present at every committee Is there an area of
communication that could be improved? Maybe the walk-in process and wait times. Please
add more 6) What is one thing they now know that they wish they would have known about
the role when they started the profession? KS: Nurses can do anything-but need to stop
doing everything 7) Do they have a mentor or personal hero as it relates to their profession
that they seek to role model? KS: My former boss-Sylvia who was the Chief Nurse Executive
at Wernersville State Hospital. Crosswalk of Issues within a healthcare interdisciplinary
teamShe saw something in me that told her to encourage me to pursue leadership roles. 8)
In the future, where do you see the quality and safety of Wilmington’s Behavioral health
department heading? KS: We keep getting better and better all the time-we are dedicated
and take care of ourselves and our Veterans. 2 List of Professional Organizations by Role

INTERDISCIPLINARY PRACTICE PAPER RUBRIC Student Name: Course: Assignment:
Faculty directions to use this rubric: This rubric directly matches the University’s grading
system. NOTE the possible rubric score for each evaluation criterion. CHECK the box in the
column that best describes the extent to which the student’s work meets the expected
elements for each evaluation criterion. In the rubric score column, RECORD the numeric
rubric value that best fits the student’s work. For example, if an evaluation criterion has a
possible score of 10, then you might enter a numeric rubric value from 8.3 – 8.8/10 for
“acceptable” work. However, 8.9/10 will represent “accomplished” work. On the other hand,
if the student’s work really lacks expected elements for a given evaluation criterion, then
you might enter a numeric rubric score value of 7.6 or less/10 for “unsatisfactory” work.
For example, if the student’s work meets “only about 35%” of the expected work for a given
evaluation criterion, then enter a numeric rubric value of 3.5/10 or lesser numeric rubric
value if indicated. If elements are not included or submitted in compliance with the
assignment guidelines & cannot be graded on the rubric, then enter a numeric rubric value
of “0”. Evaluation Criteria & Expected Elements 1. Conveys understanding of the paper 2.
