• After listening to my speech, my peers
will agree that the college tuition rates in
USA need strict control.

education is more difficult and expensive
than ever?

• 100% of my audience agreed to the fact
that the increase in prices of college
tuition in USA must be controlled.
• For 75% of my audience the prices in
college tuition impacted the decision of
what college to go.
• 50% has student loans at this moment.
5. I. High cost of college tuition in USA.
College tuition in the last 30 years increase a
1,120%, surpassing increases in health care and
housing costs.
Americans owed more than $1 trillion in
student loans.
Average of student loan debt is around $26,000.

6. B. Negative Effects.
Student graduate with a high amount of debt.
Education is less affordable and less accessible to
everyone.
Has been a rise in the college dropout rate: 70%
of Americans start a 4 year program only 2/3
finished. Drop out rate increased 53%.
Americans are not getting the education require
to hold jobs.
7. C. Causes:
State’s budget cuts.
Seller’s Market: competition between colleges.
Rise in tuition is driving directly by the rise of
spending.
Education: Labor-intensive industry: cost of
salaries and benefits is about 60% of the total
operation; mostly goes to non-instructional
positions.
8. II. Solutions:
Make community colleges free (is not
evidence that they provide an inferior
education.
Replace current State aid with federally
financed Pell-Grant.
Control in Student loans and their rates.
Create programs where students could
work and study in the same time paying
back student debt.
