                                   Traditional Interview Skills

1. What are soft skills?
Soft skills are essential to any person’s success. Soft skills enhance an individual's
interactions, job performance and career prospects. Soft skills are a set of personal habits
or traits that can yield significant return for any organization and they compliment hard
skills which are the technical requirements for any job. Soft skills are highly sought by
employers because they are often skills that come naturally to individuals or are learned
   and cultivated behaviors over a significant amount of time. Some soft skills include;
professionalism, work ethic, written communication, verbal communication, teamwork,
collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking, specific personality traits, social graces,
personal habits, friendliness, optimism, common sense, responsibility, sense of humor,
time management, motivation, integrity, empathy, leadership, and sociability.
2. Answer any seven questions from below
       · What are your strengths and weaknesses?
My strengths would be that I’m a very hard worker. When I put my mind to
something I won’t stop until it’s finished and finished correctly. I’m reliable and
responsible and I work well in a busy environment but adapt easily to my
surroundings. I work well with others but can also work well independently.
My weakness would be that I’m a perfectionist. I work really hard to make sure
the work I do is complete and accurate and to the best it can be which can be a
bad thing because too much time can be spent on perfecting a project when it’s to
the best it can be already.
       · Tell me why you are the best candidate for this position.
I am the best candidate for the position because I have the required skills to
complete the tasks that are demonstrated in the job description as well as the
motivation and passion to complete them in a timely and efficient manner. With
my knowledge and experience in this field, I will place my best foot forward to be
a leader and strive for excellence. As my prior accomplishments show, I have the
knowledge and the capability to be an asset for your business. The goals of this
company align with my personal goals and with me on your team I will make it
my best interest to put everything I have in the success of our team.

       · What interests you about this position?
My interest in this position stems from its appeal to my personality. I have always

                                                                                             1

                                                                                Jerry Davidson,
                                                                                David Kendrick,
                                                                                   Judith Moore
                                                                                Nicholas Parsons
                                                                                 Joylani Sconza
enjoyed working with people towards a common goal, but I am also a self starter
and like the autonomy required to handle projects on my own. I like the goals of
this organization; I think that they align themselves with my own very well and
want to devout my energy to helping attain them.

      · How would you describe your ideal job?
My ideal job would be one that I look forward to, day in and day out. I would be
challenged on many different levels by my supervisors, co-workers, and by the
job itself. It would be in a field that provides a service to people, and educates
them on whatever it is that I do. The things I do and see would light up the eyes of
a child's imagination, and make the most embittered soul stand in awe and
wonderment. I want to love what I choose to do with my life.

      · Why did you leave your last job?
It was time for me to transition into something different while obtaining my
degree in Sociology. I worked with Disabled Adults for 10yrs and had acquired
several promotions within the company. I found myself at a cross-road. I could
either continue to work for my previous company with the understanding that I
could not advance further, or leave and obtain my BA which would provide better
opportunities within the field. I felt it best to seek employment that would utilize
         and enhance my other skills.

      · Do you work well under pressure?
I enjoy a healthy amount of pressure. Pressure helps to keep up my motivation
and drives me to create some of my best work. I enjoy a challenging environment
to help me maintain and progress my skills in all areas of my work. Under
pressure, I am able to prioritize my responsibilities to get a good sense on what
needs to get done when, and begin to execute the tasks that are needed to
          complete the job successfully.

      · Please describe your idea of a perfect supervisor.
My perfect supervisor would be someone whom I could have an open door policy
with. Someone who I felt comfortable discussing various aspects of my job with,
such as concerns, achievements, suggestions, etc. My supervisor is someone
I expect to have respect for. I welcome a supervisor to challenge me, provide
support, and to be clear in their expectations. I look to my supervisor for training,
modeling and guidance. In my experience I have found the best supervisor to be
those who are honest with what they expect, their own weaknesses, recognize my
strengths, and provide a sense of team work and demonstrates integrity.
3. What response did you give an employer at the end of the interview when they ask
    “Do you have any questions?”
It’s important to always have a question or two because it shows you’re paying attention

                                                                                          2

                                                                             Jerry Davidson,
                                                                             David Kendrick,
                                                                                Judith Moore
                                                                             Nicholas Parsons
                                                                              Joylani Sconza
during the interview and that you’re really interested in the job. The questions I always
ask are the following;
What is the dress code?
What would my hours be?
Will I have the opportunity to cross train and learn other duties?

                                                                                       3
