Phase 2 mood board Left top – ambient image Left bottom – Quentin Blake – Reference to great british literature - Honouring an icon of the British children’s literary scene, the full collection of Quentin Blake drawings will find a new home at the House of Illustration when the venue opens in the Kings Cross regeneration area in late 2012. Meanwhile, from July 2010 until January 2011 London’s V&A Museum will play host to Peter Rabbit™: the Tale of the Tale, tracing Beatrix Potter’s popular story of Peter Rabbit from illustrated letter to publication Middle top – The Land of Lost Content Museum – a national museum of popular culture celebrating all that is vintage and lost and found. This holds the largest archive of 20 th century popular culture. Middle bottom – ambient image Right top – Cider and Beer brewing - Running parallel to this quest for an image up-date is a growing sense of nostalgia for quintessentially British culture. In recent media we are seeing evidence of bygone traditions making a comeback: The Guardian newspaper confirms that “the beer brewer scene has never been so healthy”, with a growing online community of bloggers paying homage to the national beverage of choice. Right bottom – 100 British Icons - 100 icons that best represent England voted by UK is a true inspiration for this quintessentially British trend.

Phase 2 mood board Left top – The Great British Refurb Campaign - recent government initiatives such as ‘The Great British Refurb Campaign’ promote the ethos of improving our surroundings, in contrast to capitalist philosophies of consumption. Left bottom – Revive- Reupholster a Chair’ by Jacqueline Mulvaney - A trend for putting a personal stamp our possessions is indicated by books like ‘Revive- Reupholster a Chair’ by Jacqueline Mulvaney, whilst an increasing reverence for artifacts with a historical narrative is reflected through the reworking of retro designs like Velichko Velikov’s ‘Gramophone Lounge Chair’ and Urban Outfitters’ Olivetti manual typewriter. Middle top – Robi Renzi, Armadiature - Designer Robi Renzi of RenziVivian will present a series of cabinets assembled from a patchwork of salvaged wooden component. Called Armadiature, the pieces will be presented as part of an exhibition called Let It Shine at new exhibition space Skillart Middle bottom – 100 Hammers initiative - 100 Hammers is a unique online initative by Project M (an intensive summer program designed to inspire young designers to incite change) that aims to extend the life of basic tools and encourage altruistic activities within the community. Inspired by the recent death of sculptor and collector David McLaughlin , a group of Project M participants set up the initiative to spread the philosophy of reuse and creation that was integral to McLaughlin’s work. Through 100 Hammers, participants have one month to complete a project with one of the second-hand hammers, before it is shipped back to the 100 Hammers library to continue its life of benevolent creation. Designers taking part in the initiative are also asked to pass on the proceeds of any sales they make to local art and design projects.
