Good photos, logos, icons and other media on a site are key to a website's appeal, popularity and conversion rates. We review uploading media in pages and posts, including the media settings, size options, as well as default image sizes – resizing images, creating thumbnails and the value of the alt tag and captions for both Accessibility and SEO.
The presentation will also demonstrate how to use the WordPress built-in image alignment features and help attendees understand how images interact with the text; and will include wrapping text around images, changing margins, padding and borders around the images within the content and when and how to use the ‘Featured Image’ option. Photoblogs and Galleries are discussed as well as copyright-free sources for images. The focus of this presentation is on native WordPress functionality rather than third-party plugins.

INTRODUCING
CREATIVE COMMONS• Creative Commons provides free, easy-to-use legal tools
that give everyone from individual “user generated content”
creators to major companies and institutions a simple,
standardized way to pre-clear usage rights to creative work
they own the copyright to. CC licenses let people easily
change their copyright terms from the default of “all rights
reserved” to “some rights reserved.”

UNDERSTANDING
CREATIVE COMMONS
LICENSES• The Creative Commons copyright licenses and
tools forge a balance inside the traditional “all
rights reserved” setting that copyright law
creates. Our tools give everyone from
individual creators to large companies and
institutions a simple, standardized way to grant
copyright permissions to their creative work.
