Occupations that are hard to fill: Distribution, sales and marketing – 63% Art and design – 28% Technical development – 26% Business management in particular for books (20%) and newspapers (22%) Editorial, journalism and sport for newspapers (29%) Production for books (20%)
For short terms contracts: 31% art and design 30% business management Book publishers report gaps in production – 27% Editorial, journalism and sport – 72% for newspapers, 35% for journals/periodical & 27% books
Keep up with change: (rises to 35% in journals/periodicals) Failure to train: (rises to 36% in books, 41% in newspapers)
Causes: 62% newspapers companies have difficulty meeting quality standards
23% of newspaper employers have an L&D plan – Creative Media is 18% 15% book publishers have decreased their l&d budget
Note that newspapers had 27% on multi-skilling and 25% on creative talent.
