INTRODUCTION
This research assignment showcases the partial business plan for the business
“S.S.E Grocery Delivery Service” conceptualized by researcher and future
entrepreneur Sashara Eccleston, in an effort to complete the Principles of Business
Syllabus. This research project deals with the Production Aspect of the business.
The entrepreneur hopes to establish this business in the near future in Jamaica, in
an effort to ease the burden on consumers of having to be shouting over counters in
crowded wholesales and waiting in long lines in supermarkets.
2
DESCRIPTION OF BUSINESS
“S.S.E Grocery Delivery Service” will be a sole proprietorship that will be owned
by Sashara Eccleston. The entrepreneur, Sashara Eccleston, has received a Master’s
Degree in Business Management from the University of the West Indies, Jamaica.
S.S.E Grocery Delivery Service will allow its customers to order their groceries on its
website and have them delivered to their door.
MISSION STATEMENT
To provide customers with the highest quality customer service, delivered with a
sense of warmth, friendliness, timeliness and enthusiasm while always trying to offer
affordable yet competitive prices.
3
JUSTIFICATION OF LOCATION
“S.S.E Grocery Delivery Service” will be located at Shop # 6 Eccles Plaza, West
Henderson, Greater Portmore on the top floor that is currently being constructed.
The entrepreneur has chosen this location as:
 It is in the heart of the largely populated city of Portmore. This will allow the
business to source it customers and workers easily.
 The target customers are closely located, which will save on the cost of
transporting the grocery to them. This will benefit the business, as it will save
on fuel for delivery.
 All the necessary amenities such as bathrooms, light, water and internet
connection are available (see appendix 1 for location).

ROLE OF ENTREPRENEUR
The entrepreneur’s role is to manage the daily activities of the business, evaluate
employee’s performance and manage the finances of the business.
The functions that the entrepreneur will take on are:
 Planning: The entrepreneur will take on the function of being the manager
who will make decisions on behalf of the business, by researching and
planning ahead.
 Directing: As the person who conceptualizes the business idea the
entrepreneur will direct the employees as it relates to their duties and standard
of the business.
 Motivating: In order to get the best from her employees, the entrepreneur will
motive the employees to give of their best. This will be done by awarding
employees bonus and employee of the month awards.
7
TYPE OF PRODUCTION
The business will engage in tertiary production. This will involve the provision of
direct service to customers. It will involve the distribution of goods to customers.
These items will include things people would normally find in supermarkets and
wholesales, for example flour, cornmeal, canned items and others.
(See appendix 3 for list of item)
8
LEVEL OF PRODUCTION
The business will be small and newly formed so it will engage in the domestic
level of production. At domestic level of production the business will neither import
nor export. It is important for the business to start at this level as it aims to build its
clientele and gain loyalty of its customers. Since the business is starting at this level
of production, all it’s supplies will be purchased locally.
9
QUALITY CONTROL MEASURES
In order for the business to provide the highest quality service, quality control
measures will be implemented. The business will ask customer to fill out evaluation
and suggestion forms every three months (see appendix 4 for form). This will allow
the business to get feedback from its customers about the quality of its service and
help the business to greater satisfy its customers.
The business will also have a customer care centre where customers can report
their complaints or any query.
10
USE OF TECHNOLOGY
In modern society there has been vast development in technology and the
entrepreneur has realized the need for technology to improve the efficiency of the
business. The technology the business will use is as follows:
TECHNOLOGY USE HOW TECHNOLOGIES
WILL ENHANCES
EFFICIENCY
Computer  To store data
 To allow customer
to be able to place
their orders online
 To access the
internet
 The computer will
host the business’s
website on which
customers will
place their orders.
 Customer’s order
can be access and
process
instantaneously.
Global Positioning System  To aid delivery
person in locating
customers houses
 The Global
Positioning System
will allow the
driver to locate
customer easily.
 Increase efficiency
as more order can
be delivered in a
shorter time period.
11
LINKAGES
The business will be a retailer that will provide the service of delivery of grocery
food item. As the business is not the producer of these goods, it hopes to form a
backward linkage with companies that produce them. They would include Grace
Kennedy, Lasco, Jamaica Biscuit Company and others (see appendix 5).
This linkage will be beneficial to the business, as it will be able to purchase goods
directly from the manufacturer and thereby acquire them at a cheaper rate. The
business will thus be able to offer its goods at competitive rates to its customers.

12
POTENTIAL FOR GROWTH
INTERNAL GROWTH
In five years, the business hopes to increase its clientele, which will force it to
employ more workers and move to a bigger site. As the word spreads about the fast
and efficient service that “S.S.E Delivery Service” will offer, its clientele will grow.
The fact that we are now in the technological era and more and more people are
shopping online, this will enhance the growth of the business.
EXTERNAL GROWTH
The business hopes to establish another branch in the parish of St. James and also
form linkages with other suppliers.
13
GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS
“S.S.E Delivery Service” will try it best to abide by all government regulation
established by the Jamaican government as it relates to businesses. The business
regulations in Jamaica state that all new businesses should be registered with the
Companies’ Office of Jamaica and the National Insurance Scheme.
In an effort to abide by these regulations, the business will obtain a BN1 form as it
is a sole proprietorship and a National Insurance Scheme Form. The business will
have to pay taxes to the Jamaican government and will need a Tax Registration
Number (T.R.N) and so it will apply for a Tax Registration Number. The business
will also be selling grocery items and alcohol, so it will need to obtain Spirit License
and Retailer License.
In abiding by these regulations, the business will enhance efficiency in filing the
statutory returns and also will enhance customer confidence in doing business with
S.S.E Grocery Delivery Service because they will know that the business abides by all
regulations established (See appendix 6-9 for all forms mentioned above).
14
ETHICAL ISSUES
S.S.E Grocery Delivery Service is aware that many businesses take part in the
unethical practice of inaccurately weighing items such as flour, sugar and cornmeal.
The business refuses to take part in this practice, as it is dishonest. This practice will
damage the reputation of the business, leading to the down turn of business activities,
eventually leading to the closure of the business, as the business will become unable
to generate enough profit to keep itself afloat. The business will avoid this issue by
checking the quantity of good twice and ensuring scale are working properly.
15
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, this has been a partial business plan proposal for an online grocery
delivery service that the entrepreneur, Sashara Eccleston has conceptualized.
The business will be established in the near future and allow Jamaicans the option
of purchasing their grocery online instead of going to the supermarket. The business
hopes to grow and establish branches in other parishes while still abiding to all ethical
and legal practices outlined by the Jamaican government.
