LESSON PLAN - 15
Name of the teacher: Saritha J Name of school: Marthoma girls high school
Subject : Mathematics Standard : VIII - C
Unit: Ratio and Proportion Strength: 73/80
Subunit: Inverse Proportion Date:18-7-14
Time: 40mts
Curriculum statement:
To understand about inverse proportion and its impotence in ratio through discussion ,organization of charts and by
analyzing the prepared notes of the pupil.
Content analysis:
New term: Inverse Proportion
Fact: if two quantities x and y changes according to the rule y = k/x, but k don’t change. It is said to be inverse proportion.
Concept: concept of inverse proportion
Process: process of finding two values are in inverse proportion or not curriculum objective.
Curriculum objective
To find the solution of problem related to inverse proportion:
Learning out come
1. The pupil will recall the term proportion
2. The pupil will recognize inverse proportion
3. The pupil will gives illustration for inverse proportion
4. The pupil will discuss the problems of inverse proportion
Pre-requisites
The pupil should have knowledge about direct proportion.
Teaching learning resources

Activity 2
Activity 3
Teacher start class with usual talk. Teacher ask some question about direct
proportion, teacher ask the definition of direct proportion.
The teacher ask how many rectangle of area 30 cm2 can we draw?
Teacher explain that increase the length of one side length of other side is
decreased, so it is not direct proportion.
If we take length and breadth of the sides of a rectangle is x and y
We have
xy = 30
y= 30/x
y is proportional to 1/x.
So two quantities x and y changes according to the rule that y = k/x.
But k doesn’t change. It is said to be inverse proportion.
The teacher displace the chart containing the definition of inverse proportion
All of them give
answer
Pupil understand the
concept with the
help of teacher.
Pupil actively read
the chart

activity
The teacher give a problem on the work sheet to each group and says that discuss in
the group and write the answer in the work sheet and your note book.
Find the length and breadth of a rectangle with area 60cm2 ?
l b Area = l×b = 60cm2
10
12
15
20
30
60
Length is increased breadth is ……..
If the length of a rectangle is x and breadth is y, then xy = …. Or y = ……
That is xy = k or y = …….
x and y are in ……..
Find the length and breadth of a rectangle with area 30cm2? Is it is in inverse
proportion?
l b Area = 30cm2
6
5 30
10
15
30
Teacher explains the answer.
The length increases breadth is decreases
Take length = x and breadth = y ,
We get xy = 30
y = 30/x
so length and breadth are in inverse proportion.
Teacher concludes class by explaining about inverse proportion.
Teacher asks some questions about the topic.
1. The area of various rectangle is given by 40cm2,20cm2.are the length and breadth
are in inverse proportion?
2. Check whether the following values are in inverse proportion?
a)9,12,21,28 b)28,21,3,4
Each group do
correctly
All pupil fill the
table
