• It is on the east coast
  of the USA.
• It became a state in
  1789.
• NC has a subtropical
  climate.
State Flag
     • North Carolina´s flag
       is red, white, and
       blue. It has the same
       colors as the US flag.
     • The flag has one
       white star on it.
Raleigh, the State Capital
• The capital of North
  Carolina is called
  Raleigh.
• Raleigh was named
  after Sir Walter
  Raleigh, an English
  explorer.
• Raleigh is in the
  center of North
  Carolina.
3 Regions of North Carolina
              • North Carolina is divided
                into 3 parts: The coast,
                the piedmont, and the
                mountains.
              • The coast is the area that
                is close to the Atlantic
                Ocean.
              • The piedmont is in the
                center of North Carolina.
              • The mountains are in the
                west of North Carolina.
The Coast of North Carolina
Roanoke Island
• North Carolina had
  the first colony in the
  USA.
• It was called
  Roanoke.
• The people who lived
  in Roanoke
  disappeared and what
  happened to them is
  still a mystery.
Kitty Hawk




• In the early 1900s, the Wright Brothers created the first
  airplane.
• The flew planes in Kitty Hawk, NC because of the
  regular winds and the soft sand.
• Now there is a national monument where the Wright
  Brothers flew their planes.
North Carolina Battleship
             • This battleship is
               called the USS North
               Carolina.
             • It was used during
               World War II.
             • It is in Wilmington.
             • The battleship is now
               a museum.
The Piedmont of North Carolina
Old Salem
• Old Salem was first
  settled by people from
  the Czech Republic.
• Old Salem now has a
  living history
  museum, a toy
  museum, and
  gardens to visit.
Charlotte
     • Charlotte is the
       biggest city in North
       Carolina.
     • Charlotte is an
       important city for
       NASCAR, a car race
       on a track.

• The zoo has more than 200 types of animals.
• It has animals from Africa and North America.
• NC zoo was the first American zoo to put
  animals in areas that are similar to their natural
  habitat.
The Mountains of North Carolina
The Great Smoky Mountains
• The Smoky Mountains
  get their name from the
  fog that is there.
• The highest place along
  the Appalacian Trial is
  called Clingmans dome
  and it is 2.025 meters
  high.
• Mt. Mitchell is the highest
  peak. (6683 ft.)
• The Smoky Mountains
  are home to many plants
  and animals, like black
  bears, deer, and
  salamanders.
Grandfather Mountain
          • Grandfather Mountain
            has a swinging bridge
            that is 1 mile (1.610
            mts) high.
          • Grandfather
            Mountains has a
            festival of Scottish
            games, called the
            Highland games,
            each year.
The Biltmore House
• The Biltmore House is the
  biggest home in America.
   It has 250 rooms.
• The house has an indoor
  swimming pool, a bowling
  alley, and a library.
• The Biltmore House has
  a large garden with 250
  types of roses.
Sports in North Carolina
• NC has some
  professional sports
  teams.
• There is a football team
  called the Carolina
  Panthers.
• NC has a hockey team
  called the Hurricanes.
• NC has a basketball team
  called the Charlotte
  Bobcats.
Food in North Carolina
           • A popular food in NC is
             called barbecue. It is
             made of pulled pork and
             has a sauce made of
             vinegar and tomato.
           • Grits are very typical in
             NC. They are made of
             ground corn. Some
             people add butter, salt, or
             cheese.
