Key Verses
• Isaiah 58:9-11 Then you shall call, and the
LORD will answer; you shall cry, and he will say,
'Here I am.' If you take away the yoke from your
midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking
wickedness, if you pour yourself out for the
hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted,
then shall your light rise in the darkness and
your gloom be as the noonday. And the LORD
will guide you continually and satisfy your desire
in scorched places and make your bones strong;
and you shall be like a watered garden, like a
spring of water, whose waters do not fail.
• Titus 2:11-12 For the grace of God has appeared,
bringing salvation for all people, training us to
renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and
to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in
the present age.

Key Issues
• God’s grace is amazing. Grace was the
manifestation of God’s loving initiative
toward us long before we ever did
anything for Him. And it is both the
model for and the power behind our
giving.
• Gaze upon Christ long enough, and you’ll
become more of a giver. Give long
enough, and you’ll become more like
Christ.
• As surely as the compass needle follows
north, your heart will follow your
treasure. Money leads; hearts follow.

testimony of the woman who paid for the
stranger’s medication?
• Take a few minutes to talk to your Father
about His grace toward you. Identify a
few of your possible responses to His
grace—inward mental or emotional
responses, and outward behavioral
responses. How do these responses
reveal ways that God’s grace might
impact your thinking, belief, and
behavior?
8. The Spirituality of Giving 8
Bible Exploration
• Throughout 2 Corinthians 8-9, the
themes of God’s grace and our giving

relationship between the two?
• 2 Cor 8:1-5
• 2 Cor 8:6-7
• 2 Cor 8:8-12
• 2 Cor 9:6-9
• 2 Cor 9:10-15
• Read Isaiah 58:9-11. What does the Lord
promise the generous giver? (Put your
answer in terms of your life situation today.)
9. The Spirituality of Giving 9
Living the Truth
• How much is desire for eternal
reward part of your motivation for
giving? How can we help each other
view eternal reward with a healthy
attitude?
• How would you describe your
attitude when giving? Is it a
dispassionate act of philanthropy?
Or do you give with immersion in
God’s kingdom causes? Or are you
somewhere in between?

Questions for God
• Pray: “Do I really believe that You
have made me to be a giver? Am I
convinced that I will feel pleasure
when I give? God, help me to believe
and to trust You enough to give.”
• Pray: “I recognize the potential my
passions and desires have to cause
great harm or to achieve great good.
God, will You help me direct my
treasure and my passions toward You
and Your eternal purposes?”

Treasure Principle Keys
1. God owns everything; I’m His money
manager
• We are the managers of the assets God has
entrusted—not given—to us
2. My heart always goes where I put God’s
money
• Watch what happens when you reallocate
your money from temporal things to eternal
things
