RAMANUJAN
1887-1920

5.  Born on 22, December, 1887
Erode,Tamilnadu,India.

6.  One day a primary School teacher was telling to his
students ‘If three fruits are divided among three
persons, each would get one , even would get one ,
even if 1000 fruits are divided among 1000 persons
each would get one ‘. Thus , generalized that any
number divided by itself was unity . This Made a child
of that class jump and ask- ‘ is zero divided by zero
also unity?’ If no fruits are divided nobody , will each
get one? This little boy was none other than
RAMANUJAN .

7.  At the age of 12, he was declared
“CHILD MATHEMATICIAN” by his
teachers.

8. RAMANUJAN’S HIGH SCHOOL ,IN
KUMBAKONAM

9.  He was married with a nine
year old girl named Janaki
Aammal,when he was 22.

10. He was invited to England to
improve his works by G.H.Hardy
and J.E Littlewoods, who were
great mathematicians.
He was the first elected
Mathematician from India to the
London Mathematical society
and he became a Fellow of the
Royal society.

11. In 1916, got Hon. B.A.(PhD) Degree of
University of Cambridge.

12.  6.12.1917 – Elected to London
Mathematical Society
 Became a ‘Fellow of The Royal
Society’ in 1918
 Became the first Indian to be
elected a Fellow of Trinity College,
Cambridge

the problem

25. 1. Ramanujan and Hardy
arrived at Ramanujan’s
residence in a cab number
1729.
Hardy commented that the
number 1729 seemed to be
uninteresting.
Ramanujan said that it is a
very interesting mathematical
number.

26. The smallest natural number can be
represented in two different ways as
a sum of two cubes:
1729 =13 +123
=93 +103
It is also incidentally the product of
three prime numbers

died April 26, 1920 .
We Miss a Great Mathematician

28. Recognition by Govt.of India
The Ex. Prime Minister of India, Dr.
Manmohan Singh has declared the
year 2012 as the “National
Mathematical Year” and the date
December 22, being the birthday of
Srinivasa Ramanujan has been
declared as the
“National Mathematics day” to be
celebrated every year

29.  Ramanujan's home state of Tamil
Nadu celebrates 22 December
(Ramanujan's birthday) as 'State IT Day',
Stamp on Ramanujan’s was released by
the govt.of India in 1962.
