2. General Concept
Gender Activity Calendar is one of the
commonly used PRA tools
It generates information on
gender and
age-based seasonal distribution of
labour at the household community
level.
4. How is it applied?
This method can be used with
individuals or with groups and can be
done when researching a community, a
neighbourhood or an organization.
During this the researcher asks
participants to map out, in calendar
style, the activities that they undertake
during an entire week, with approximate
time (in hours) spent doing that activity.
5. How is it applied Cont......
It is a learning experience for both the
researcher and the participant as it
allows a person to visualize the way in
which time is spent, and how roles are
divided by men and women.
6. Information we can get from
applying this tool
How roles are divided between men and
women.
Who does what between men and
women.
The way in which time is spent by men
and women.
Periods of busy activity /less busy
activities during the year and the most
appropriate period for project
8. Advantages
The results of the gender activities
calendar can be used to make sure the
program benefits men and women
equally.
Most donors before providing funds to
the project ask questions like how your
project will address issues related to
gender.
9. It helps in revealing gender
responsibilities and imbalances
10. Disadvantages
Time consuming: it requires a lot of time
to organize participants to complete this
task.
It is difficult: it is not easy for
participants to remember time for each
activity performed during a week.
