Puebla is the capital of the state of Puebla in Mexico, located east of Mexico City and west of Veracruz. According to legend, a bishop had a dream that guided where to build the city in a valley with woods, meadows, and rivers. This legend is why the city was originally called Puebla de los Angeles. The city was founded in the Valley of Cuetlaxcoapan and features a classic Spanish city layout centered around a main plaza. Puebla features over 5,000 historic buildings showcasing architectural styles from Renaissance to Mexican Baroque, earning it the distinction of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
