  2. 2. Introduction  Dr. Sally A. Booth, having 25 years of medical experience, is board certified dermatologist by the American Board of Dermatology. Specializing in dermatology, Sally A. Booth, MD, received her medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School and is trained in the skin cancer treatment technique called Mohs micrographic surgery. Mohs micrographic surgery, also referred to as chemosurgery, is a surgical technique used to treat skin cancer. Named after Dr. Frederick Mohs in the 1930s, this procedure requires the removal of successive layers of cancerous skin. Immediately following removal, each layer is microscopically examined by the clinician for tumors until cancer-free
  3. 3. Mohs Micrographic Surgery  Mohs micrographic surgery is unique when compared to conventional skin cancer treatment techniques, as it allows for both the complete edge and underside of each skin layer to be evaluated on a microscopic level for malignancy. Because of its precision, this technique requires only a small tissue sample, sparing as much healthy skin as possible. The surgery is performed in the comfort of the clinician’s office, and on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. With successful rate of cure reaching 99 percent, Mohs micrographic surgery is a preferred method of skin cancer treatment.
