2. Jesus’ Prayer - “Father!... may they be one … just as you and I are one.” (John 17:21-22)
3. Our Dream/Our Response Unite Christians in a 5-year (2009-2013) nationwide Campaign to distribute 5 million Bibles to 5 million homes in five years and encourage Filipinos to read, study and live the Bible resulting in the transformation of the Philippines. Episcopal Commission for the Biblical Apostolate Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines
4. May They Be One Bible Campaign was inspired by the 12 th Ordinary Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in Rome, Oct. 5-26, 2008 with the theme: “ The Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church.” The Synod was called to spark an appreciation and deep love of Sacred Scripture so that the faithful might have easy access to it.
5. “ It is in knowing God’s Word that we can live it. We must all read and know the Word of God, through which God speaks.”
6. Now the snake was the most cunning animal that the Lord God had made. The snake asked the woman, “ Did God really tell you not to eat fruit from any tree in the garden?”
7. “ We may eat the fruit of any tree in the garden,” the woman answered, “except the tree in the middle of it. God told us not to eat the fruit of that tree or even touch it; if we do, we will die .”
8. The snake replied, “That's not true; you will not die . God said that, because he knows that when you eat it you will be like God and know what is good and what is bad.”
9. From this story we see the importance that God gives to obeying His Word. The consequence of disobeying His Word is death. Therefore we need to read the Bible because we cannot obey what we do not know.
10. “ It is in knowing God’s Word that we can live it. We must all read and know the Word of God, through which God speaks.”
11. “ While we are a Catholic nation, it is very surprising that many of our Filipino homes do not still have a Bible. The aim ... of providing every Filipino Catholic home, deserves our commendation and support. Indeed, putting a Bible in every home is putting Christ in every heart.” Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales, DD Archbishop of Manila
12. Then the Devil came to him and said, “If you are God's Son, order these stones to turn into bread.” But Jesus answered, “The scripture says, ‘Human beings cannot live on bread alone, but need every word that God speaks.’ "
13.
14. Then the Devil took Jesus to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in all their greatness. “All this I will give you,” the Devil said, “if you kneel down and worship me.” Then Jesus answered, “Go away, Satan! The scripture says, ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve only him!’ "
15. He gave importance to God’s Word. He knew it by heart and memorized it. And so He knew when and how to use it against the devil. And more than that, Jesus obeyed God’s Word even to death on the cross. Jesus is the example that we follow. Like Him, we should give high regard to God’s Word.
