The pyrite framboid size distribution of 26 samples from the Grey Shales were analysed to determine the water column redox history of the sediments. The pyrite framboids range from 4.46µm to 8.76µm in diameter which is indicative of framboids nucleation and growth within an oxic to dysoxic water column. In contrast to the higher oxygenation shown by the framboid size distribution pattern, the paleoecologies of the sediments indicate severe depletion of oxygenated conditions. This variance may have been due to a fluctuating redox interface leading to brief periods of oxygenation or size sorting from storm events that probably favoured the preservation of larger size framboids.

This paper critically examines the behaviors regarded as antisocial. The causes of antisocial behaviors with reference to factors such as: the nature of the home environment, gender, socio economic status of parents, peer group influence, residential location. The paper further poses the effects of antisocial behavior. The implications ofadolescents’ antisocial behaviors onnational development such as unattractive destination for tourists, low foreign investment, unemployment, poverty and hunger, insecurity of life and poverty. Finally, the paper recommends among others, parents and guardians should show love and care to their children and wards. They should endeavor to monitor the type of image their children watch on television or video machines and effort should be made to advise them against watching violent images, keep away from friends or peers whose behaviors do not conform to the norms and values of the society.

This reseach in based on the real condition Senior High School Sociology learning activity in Madiun regency which is still far from what we wish, still focus on cognitive aspect. Affective aspect and skill need a little touch, if it is impossible to say they are still untouched. Even, we are obliged to implement the attitude or character values in the activity of learning. The purpose of the research is: (1) to recognize the recent condition of sociology learning activity, (2) to create a sociology learning model, Problem Based Learning Collaborative, (3) to identify the effectiveness of the model in improving student achivement. The method of the research and the model development is carried out through these stages : Preliminary research, development design, model testing or product evaluation. Collecting the data is using observation, interviews, questionnaries, and documentation technique. Data analysis in the preliminary research is using qualitative approach while model testing or product evaluation is using quantitative approach experiment. Ttest isused to determine the differences between Problem Based Leraning Collaborative model and varied lecturing model. The result of the study is concluded as follows: (1) Sociology learning activity in Madiun Regancy is still varied in delivering the knowledge, not yet focus on delivering of the value. Also the process of learning evaluation is still focus on cognitive aspect ( knowledge ). Where as according to curriculum, sociology must be conducted as an integral subject. The aim must also touch all aspect, include : cognitive, affective, skill, and attitude. That is why, it is needed to conduct Problem Based Learning Collaborative model. (2) After being validated by a team of experts and practitioners, the draft of Problem Based Learning Collaborative Model is experimented in, among others, SMAN 1 Parang. The result of the model can be understood and implemented by both teachers and students. After the trial, the model is applied as a restricted quasi–experimental test in SMAN Bungkal Ponorogo and SMAN Badegan Ponorogo. The results show that the experimental groups have a better average than the control group both in the cognitive aspect and the affective one. When the model is applied extensively in SMAN 1 Parang, SMAN 2 MAGETAN, SMAN Sukomoro, SMAN Sampung, the results remains the same. It shows that the experimental groups heve a better average than the contol ones, both in the coginitive aspect and the affective one. Applying the model, it shows that the model effects the students significantly in increasing the achivement ( cognitive aspect ) and strengthen the character and attitude ( affective aspect and skill ) compared with the varied lecturing model. Thus, it can be concluded that the groups using Problem Bsed Learning Collaboraive Model has a better achivement and effort in implementing the characters values more than that of using varied lecturing model.

ODL provides unlimited choices and has a positive impact on the socio-economic transformation of people through life-long learning skills and learner autonomy. ODL as a philosophy in open learning, as a mode of delivery and as a field of practice is facing a severe threat in terms of its nature of delivery. Due to the large numbers of lecturers from conventional institutions, ODL institutions because of the nature of their operations end up hiring these lecturers as part-time tutors whose training is not deeply rooted in ODL systems of learning and philosophies. Therefore, in an attempt to deliver, the hired tutor normally, consciously or unconsciously, slides back into lecturing against the demands of the ODL which are tutoring and interactivity. As a result, the tutor fails to identify with the roles and functions of ODL practitioners. The students who are supposed to lead the way with questions and discussions are also lost in this dilemma. For these reasons, students are not normally aware of the nature of learning that they are supposed to undertake. In most cases, if ODL trained tutors come and start tutoring instead of lecturing, they are normally shunned. The main thrust of this study is on how to manage or overcome split-personality situations. ODL learning philosophies normally respond to its demands, society’s welfare needs and national development interests. The philosophies in question should be post-modernism, social constructivism and person – centered approaches. Social constructivist discourse provides interaction and people’s interpretation of their world experiences (Freedman and Combs, 1996). Through the social constructivist philosophy, Fraser (2006) emphasizes learning as a process of social construction, where learners, first and foremost learn from their interaction rather than merely relying on lectures or study materials. We conducted in-depth interviews with ODL students, conventionally trained tutors and ODL trained tutors in order to establish how best they can find each other. Study participants were purposively sampled to enable researchers to identify data-rich sources. Document analysis was also conducted on the ODL modules in order to establish their tutorship wellbeing and interactivity. Interview proceedings were recorded, transcribed, validated, segmented and coded. Data were analysed using the thematic content approach. The major findings were that while modules used in ODL are very interactive, conventionally trained tutors prefer lecturing to tutoring and learners prefer to be lectured to. The major recommendation was that conventionally trained tutors should be staff developed in the ODL mode of delivery.

Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. Israelensis (Bti), has proven to be a safe and effective larvicide for controlling mosquito and black fly larvae. The effect of cultivation and bioprocess development on Bti growth and sporulation was investigated in shake flask level and batch cultivation in the semi-industrial scale 16-L stirred tank bioreactor. For industrial production of biocontrol microorganism, it is necessary to obtain high cell mass and spore production in a short time with low cost cultivation media. In this study, the new composition of production media was optimized which composed of (g L -1 ): glucose, 10; yeast extract, 30; KH2PO4, 5; K2HPO4, 5; MgSO4. 7H20, 0.005; MnSO4.H2O, 0.03; FeSO4, 0.01; CaCl2.7 H2O, 0.05; NaH2PO4, 1.5; NH4H2PO4, 1.5. The maximal cell dry mass and spore production, Sporemax for shake flask study were 4.26 gL-1 at 36 h and 3.29106 spore mL-1 , respectively. Furthermore, studies of the cultivation conditions under controlled and uncontrolled pH in the 16L-bioreactor was performed. The growth of Bti under uncontrolled pH cultivation showing decreased of glucose and total protein concentration in the media was correlated with the vegetative cell growth and sporulation. The maximal cell dry mass and Sporemax for uncontrolled pH bioreactor were 4.14 gL-1 at 36h and 3.7106 spore mL-1 , respectively. The maximal cell dry mass and spore production, Sporemax for controlled pH bioreactor were 3.36 gL-1 at 26 h and 3.23 106 spore mL-1 , respectively. In conclusion, batch cultivation in 16-L bioreactor with the new optimized production medium under uncontrolled pH condition increased of the cell dry mass and number of spores up to 23 % and 47 % , respectively

To increase the power generation, Distributed Generation (DG) based on Renewable Energy Systems (RES) such as PV Systems, Wind Energy Systems is extensively used. This paper proposes a method of integrating the DG with Distribution Network to maximize the penetrating DG Power into the Distribution Network. This method adopts power flow analysis & also uses STATCOM to control the variation in bus voltages in the distribution network. This method is implemented and tested using Power World Simulator on an IEEE 13-Bus industrial distribution system with different loading conditions, which results in a significant increase in a DG power generation

A geophysical survey aimed at determining the Poisson’s ratio of subsurface earth materials have been carried out. Knowledge of the Poisson’s ratio of materials is important since it gives information about the quality of such materials with respect to construction works. The study area is Ozizza (lat. 5.80 -5.90N; long. 7.80 -7.90E) situated within the Afikpo sedimentary basin in south - eastern Nigeria. The geophysical method employed was the seismic refraction method and both P - and S - waves were utilized. The major equipment used was a MOD.S79 seismograph and its accessories including P- and S- wave sources and detectors. The result shows that the P- waves delineated three layers with average velocities of 420m/s, 1745m/s and 2620m/s for the first, second and third layers from the earth’s surface respectively whereas the S-waves revealed only two layers with average velocities of 310 m/s and 1100 m/s for the first and second layers accordingly. The result indicates that the first and second layers of Ozizza (probably made up of sandy clay and sand with gravel have Poisson’s ratio of 0.22 and 0.28 respectively.

The focus of this paper is to identify the determinants of share prices for the listed commercial banks in Karachi stock exchange over the period 2007-2013. One of the unique features of this paper is to find out the impact of both internal and external factors on share price. Linear multiple regression analysis is used to determine whether the selected independent variables have influence on share prices or not. The results indicate that earning per share has more influence on share prices and it has positive and significant relationship with share prices, book to market value ratio and interest rate have also significant but negative relation with share prices while other variables (gross domestic product, price earnings ratio, dividend per share, leverage) have no relationship with share prices

The antibacterial activities of the methanolic, hot water, chloroform and petroleum ether of Cochlospermum planchonii root extracts on some clinical bacterial isolates and reference organisms were investigated using conventional microbiological and microdilution indicator technique. Phytochemical screenings were also carried on the extracts. The root extracts of the plant exhibited antibacterial activities against reference strains and clinical isolates of Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Shigella flexneri, and Salmonella typhii. However, the susceptibility pattern of the bacteria did not differ significantly from each other (p>0.05). The methanolic root extracts exhibited the highest antibacterial activity, its minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) ranging between 1.25 mg/ml and 5.00mg/ml; and its zones of inhibition diameter on the various test microorganisms ranging between 8mm and 12mm. The petroleum ether extracts had the weakest antibacterial activity, with minimum inhibitory concentration of 5.00mg/ml and its zones of inhibition diameter ranging between 4mm and 7mm. The bioactive constituents in the plant were alkaloids, tannins, saponins, cardiac glycosides, and sterols. The methanolic extracts of root appeared to be more biologically active than other extracts and may be more useful in treating human infections caused by these pathogens.

Worldwide more than 3 million people currently die each year from smoking. Smoking of tobacco is practised worldwide & common in the developing countries like India. The study is designed to determine the lipid peroxidation and antioxidant status along with serum calcium level in smokers (cigarette/bidi) with reference to the normal healthy non-smokers. 50 smokers(Cigarette/Bidi) of mean age 35± 5 years were enrolled for the study & were compared to 50 normal healthy non-smokers of the same age. Blood samples were obtained by puncture of antecubital vein and the following tests were performed i.e. P-MDA, Serum-SOD andSCalcium. Increased plasma lipid per oxidation (P<0.05) /><0.05) in serum SOD & serum Calcium were observed in smokers when compared to normal/healthy control subjects. The increased level of lipid per oxidation products in smokers reflects that there is increased cell wall damage that may further leads to several complications such as COPD, Stroke and the variety of lung and other cancers. It was also found that cigarette / bidi smoke alters the antioxidants status as well as minerals imbalance in smokers and increases atherogenecity.

Complex ensemble of shapes in an image is very difficult for segmentation. Hough transform is one of the robust algorithms for detecting geometric shapes in the images. The modification of this Hough transform is used for effecting way of segmenting images. By tuning the parameters of the circle detection model, extracting the concentric shapes is achieved. In this paper, we proposed an algorithm for finding the distance between the concentric closed shapes in an image. These achieved by splitting the image into four quadrants and apply the Hough transform for detecting the curves in each quadrant and finally combine the result of four quadrants and achieve the result
