5. • Pinterest allows users to save images and
categorize them on different boards. They can
follow other users’ boards if they have similar
tastes. The development of Pinterest began
2009, and the site launched as a closed beta in
March 2010. The launch of an iPhone app in early
March 2011 brought in a more than expected
number of downloads. In December 2011, the site
became one of the top 10 largest social network
services, with 11 million total visits per week. The
site was developed by Ben Silbermann, Paul
Sciarra, and Evan Sharp.
6. American internet entrepreneur
co-founder and CEO of Pinterest.
He was born in 1982 and raised
in Des Moines, Iowa. He
graduated from Yale in 2003 with
a political science major.
Silbermann worked at Google in
the sales organization, after a
short time he left and started
designing his own iPhone apps
with his college friend Paul
Sciarra.
7. Pinterest, first launched in
2010, came out of Cold Brew
Labs, a product shop started by
Sciarra and college pal Ben
Silbermann. The one-time
experimental project has caught
fire in recent months and could
be worth as much as $500
million in a sale. Members use
the site to “pin” products to
collections called “boards,” an
activity that’s become so
popular that even President
Obama is doing it.
8. While in architecture school in
2009, Evan Sharp started Pinterest
with two friends as a fun side
project. He later left Facebook to
lead the design and front-end
engineering of Pinterest full time.
Their website and mobile app
enables users to collect and share
their favorite images. In large part
due to its simplicity and beautiful
execution, Pinterest has quickly
skyrocketed to success with more
than 30 million users globally and a
$1.5 billion valuation.

10. A pin starts with an image or video you add to
Pinterest. You can add a pin from a website using the
Pin It bookmarklet or upload an image right from your
computer. Any pin on Pinterest can be repinned, and all
pins link back to their source
11. A board is where you organize your pins by topic. You could
pin ideas for remodeling your bathroom to your House
Projects board, for example. Boards can be secret or
public, and you can invite other people to pin with you on
any of your boards.
12. When you follow someone, their pins show up in your Pinterest
home feed. You can follow all of someone's boards or just the
ones you like best. To manage who you're following, go to your
profile and click Following.
13. When you unfollow someone, their boards won't show up in
your home feed anymore. You can unfollow all of someone's
boards, or just the ones you're not that interested in.
Nobody will get notified if you unfollow them.
14. Your home feed is a collection of pins from pinners and
boards you follow. It's updated every time someone
you follow adds a pin.
15. The Pin It bookmarklet lets you easily pin things you see
on websites and blogs.
