  • We are going to give you lots of great info today you’ll be able to use to immediately increase revenue for your event. But you don’t need to take notes. Just come up afterwards and give us your business card, and we’ll send you a link to the slides right after the conference.
  • Today I’m going to talk to you 4 things that you probably use EVERY DAY and how you can use them professionally to help you get a job and be a successful online marketer no matter what your career field or industry. You may think you know everything about these mediums but hopefully I can get you thinking about how you can use them to help you in the future.
  • Probably most
  • The world probably looked like this (Cave man/dark ages picture. Seriously, what would we have done without the internet in college?
  • LOOKED UP WHERE TO FIND A BOOK IN A CARD CATALOUGE? (Card Catalouge pic)
  • That is, if we even used books.
  • ACTUALLY had to GO TO A CLASS to find out class was CANCELLED?! Seriously guys, this one blows my mind…when talking to my mom about college. I remember when she told me she would trek all the way across campus in the snow to find out there was no class. No way man. Blackboard, email, social media FTW.
  • YAY FOR US!
  • (PTL for WIKIPEDIA RIGHT?!)
  • Even if it’s not something specific like I mentioned on the last slide, there is not a job out there that ISN’T affected by the latest trends in online marketing & latest spins in tech.
  • This is AWESOME for you, because you did get to grow up in a world with technology and wikipedia, however…Your future bosses excpect you to be technology gurus! We’re expected to work faster, ask fewer questions, be able to find the answers quickly etc.
  • Today I’m going to talk to you about 5 things that you probably use EVERY DAY and how you can use them professionally to help you get a job and be a successful online marketer no matter what your career field or industry. You may think you know everything about these mediums but hopefully I can get you thinking about how you can use them to help you in the future.
  • Turn your phone in to your own version by downloading the Google Goggles app! You can take a picture of what you want to learn about and it will search for it on google!
  • Always ASK who will interview me. First and last name and any other information the person on the phone will give you. WRITE IT DOWN.
  • The old world was all about Vanity statistics: Likes and Follows. How many people could you get to like your page?

  • Now days, you need Real statistics: Purchases, Email list; ShortStack from facebook: probably something you outsource; You can set up a campaign on google analytics from your website to track the revenue from tickets on your facebook page. Facebook is adding analtyics; keep this in perspective
  • I’m talking about since September and December.
  • In September, Facebook added new advertising methods and changed their choices
  • WHAT DO ONLINE METHODS LIKE WEBSITE, SOCIAL & EMAIL HAVE IN COMMON?
Guys, with these outlets, you can begin to see what works best. All paths on facebook don’t lead to purchase, but if they lead to engagement, it hopefully leads to purchase. And it’s still SOME dollar amount you can see.
  • Facebook recently changed their rules about what you are allowed to do with contests. You CAN now use Facebook mechanisms as your method of entry. “Like” to enter, “Comment” to win.
  • People go CRAZY for giveaways! Doing an on-site giveaway is an easy way to get people even more excited about coming to your event. And sometimes one giveaway is all it takes to get an influx of people through the door—which leads to even more revenue!
  • All the participants had to do was take a photo with the sign and then enjoy their prize!
  • Whatever it takes for people to automatically be aware that this deal is a limited time offer—otherwise there’s no incentive to acting now
  • The offer on the left was just a summer card—so people weren’t in a hurry because they figured they had all summer to purchase the card. The offer on the right was holiday specific—so people automatically assume that it will expire once the holiday is over
  • Fair food; this gets action, and is in relation to THE PERSON. What do YOU like?
  • This has been one of my favorite and most successful thing we’ve done. They say to really engage people, engage as many senses as you can. So this contest engages their taste, smell, sight, touch. It’s a great one. Always talk about FOOD!
  • Facebook is still king, but among 18-29 year olds, Instagram is #2.
If they went down to pre-teen and teenagers, Instagram would even be higher.
You are probably hearing teens are leaving Facebook, but that’s not true. Facebook has lost its exclusive grip on teens. Young audiences are flocking to more visual platforms like Snapchat, Instagram and Vine, but teens and young audiences are still the largest demographic using Facebook.
Like everybody else, teens and younger audiences have become multiple-platform users. That doesn’t mean they’re done with Facebook, it just means that their social interests are broadening.
  • WHY EMAIL? Here are three compelling reasons.
    - Email makes the most revenue generator for our clients and most companies around the world (even above social media)
    - Email costs the least. High revenue with low costs make it a very cost-effective marketing tool
    - Email gives some of the fastest results, often within 24 hours; this is especially impressive next to traditional media
  • Now let’s talk for a minute about mobile. When customers are asked what factors lead to mobile purchases (not very many now but growing quickly!), email was the top factor.
  • People check their email on their phone.
  • Intense, so if it seems crazy, you don’t have to take EVERY piece of advice.
  • Most likely, when you go on a job interview, they will ask you what you do to keep up with the latest trends in your industry; email is the easiest way to do it. Make it a Gmail tab!
  • Mention scours the Web day and night to find new instances of search terms of your choosing and alerts you when it finds them. The search-and-alert program is an alternative to Google Alerts, taking the core concept from that competitor and blending it with social media monitoring tools, resulting in a supremely rich package for businesses or anyone in a branded-persona line of work. You can set up one alert for free.
  • If you like weight watchers app, try this one. Will wake you up in a 30 minute window for when you really should be waking up
  • • Forward hotel, airline, car rental, and restaurant confirmation emails to plans@tripit.com to create an instant itinerary • Get directions, maps and weather for each destination • Sync trip plans with your Google Calendar or Outlook
  • elegant and smart news reader that learns what kinds of stories you like and dislike as you read. You will never again miss something interesting because you haven’t subscribed to the right feed or followed the right person – instead, News360 will show you all the stories that really matter, and none of the noise.
  • That’s where dropbox comes in. I use this at work on a daily basis because it’s an awesome way for us to all share and edit files that we all need to have access to. Another really great use of dropbox is that it integrates with IFTTT---for example, if any of you have ever lost photos when you get a different phone or something, you can set up a recipe on IFTTT that says to automatically save your photos to dropbox. There is free dropbox that lets you have a certain amount of storage, but this is actually something I think is worth paying the $9/month for once you’ve filled up your space.
  • Unlike every other travel app out there, Hipmunk doesn't just show you the cheapest flight first--the app sorts by "agony" instead, which incorporates important factors like flight duration, number of layovers and price. Want to know when airfare changes? Our fare alerts will alert you quickly when prices change. Hipmunk’s hotels are shown on a map so you can see exactly where you'll be staying. You can also read TripAdvisor reviews in the app and turn on heatmaps to see which are the best areas to stay in based on unique interests like food, landmarks, nightlife and more. Plus, save up to 60% off with new Tonight Deals on hotels worldwide.
  • You can also communicate – are you ready? – in person
  • You can also communicate – are you ready? – in person
  • It stands for: IF THIS THEN THAT.
You create “recipes” to make something automatically happen within your social media.
  • This amazingly simple yet powerful tool can automate just about anything you'd want to do in your digital life, from backing up photos on Facebook to sending you text message reminders of upcoming appointments.
Connected to social media beccause you can have it automate your posts, for example if you post to fb, also post to instagram
  • Divided in to categories to make it easy to learn about what you want to research
