Hi mom,
I'm finally in Colombia’s capital city: Bogota, and I am so excited to be here, mom. Most people here are
definitely kind and warm- hearted, and there’s a lot of energy everywhere. Here, people listen to music
almost all the time so I’m thinking they might be happier than people in New York. You should know
Bogota is a very special city and that it has a very strange weather that changes a lot during the day.
Sometimes it might be really hot and the next minute it can start raining. It’s crazy because it can be
sunny and rainy at the same time. So, usually in the evening, you have to wear a sweater or
warmer clothes because it’s really cold, or sometimes it might be rainy too so you have to carry
an umbrella with you all the time.
Well, I have to tell you that Bogota has a lot of places to visit. There are many interesting
museums and awesome shopping malls. My friend Linda told me I should stay at this hostel
downtown, so here I am at La Candelaria neighborhood. It’s really nice because believe it or not,
there are people from all over the world. Whenever I go out to the streets, I can see people from
Germany, England, Argentina, France, Chile and Brazil. That has been a big surprise for me, I
think it’s amazing. I can say it’s very similar to New York in that way, the difference is probably a
big amount of foreigners in New York are there usually doing businesses, while in Colombia
most foreigners are travelling as tourists.
This city is also a lot cheaper than New York. A night at the hostel is just $30.000 Colombian
pesos, which is around U$15. Can you believe it? It’s fantastic because you can do a lot more
things spending less money. In New York, everything is so expensive, I guess that’s the price of
living at the big apple. Here, I can tell you food is delicious because there are lots and lots
of tasty fruits to choose from. There is also a great variety of vegetables, you can’t even
imagine. So, a delicious healthy salad of lettuce, beans, mushrooms, cheese, and corn with
some, let’s say, mango or strawberry juice for lunch is just $15.000, which is around U$8. And
the best thing is that everything here is %100 natural, a lot cheaper than New York and healthier
too.
Mom, there are many things I have to tell you about my experience in this awesome country. I can’t do it
right now because we are going out to visit some museums with some friends. Please let me know about
4. you and dad. I miss you all.
Big hug,

Read the e-mail Daryl wrote to his mom Kathy. After
that, answer the questions below.
Hi mom,
I'm finally in Colombia’s capital city: Bogota, and I am so excited to be here, mom.
Please let me know about
you and dad. I miss you all.
Big hug,
Daryl
