   Several publications have reported that 31% of US
    adults prefer to be contacted via text message.
   Some 83% of American adults own cell phones
    and three-quarters of them (73%) send and
    receive text messages.
   31% said they preferred texts to talking on the
    phone,
   53% said they preferred a voice call to a text
    message.
   14% said the contact method they prefer depends
    on the situation.

  The share of adults in the United States who
   own an e-book reader doubled to 12% in
   May, 2011 from 6% in November 2010.
  Tablet computers—portable devices similar to
   e-readers but designed for more interactive
   web functions—have not seen the same level
   of growth in recent months. In May 2011, 8%
   of adults report owning a tablet computer
   such as an iPad, Samsung Galaxy or Motorola
   Xoom. A 3% increase

Several publications have reported that 31% of US adults prefer to be contacted via text message.  Some 83% of American adults own cell phones and three-quarters of them (73%) send and receive text messages.  31% said they preferred texts to talking on the phone,  53% said they preferred a voice call to a text message.  14% said the contact method they prefer depends on the situation.  PEW Research, Sept 2011

  • 17.  The share of adults in the United States who own an e-book reader doubled to 12% in May, 2011 from 6% in November 2010.  Tablet computers—portable devices similar to e-readers but designed for more interactive web functions—have not seen the same level of growth in recent months. In May 2011, 8% of adults report owning a tablet computer such as an iPad, Samsung Galaxy or Motorola Xoom. A 3% increase (PEW Research)
