19. What is DVD burning software? DVD burning software is a program used to transfer a ripped DVD video image from the hard drive to a blank DVD disc. There are many DVD burning programs available, including free DVD burning software. DVD burning software may also be used to burn ripped video game images, such as PS2, to DVD. However, burning software cannot be used to burn music onto CDs. It should be noted that not all DVD burning software is capable of burning to dual layer discs. Blank DVD media typically comes in either of two sizes; DVD-5 vs. DVD-9. Most Hollywood DVDs are of the DVD-9 format, also referred to as dual layer, and can store up to 8.5 GB of data. A dual layer DVD can hold twice as much data as the more common DVD-5, single layer blank DVD, which holds only 4.7 GB of data.
20. Types of DVD DVD+R and DVD+RWDVD+R and DVD+RW formats are supported by Philips, Sony, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Ricoh, Yamaha and others. DVD+R is a recordable DVD format similar to CD-R. A DVD+R can record data only once and then the data becomes permanent on the disc. The disc can not be recorded onto a second time. DVD+RW is a re-recordable format similar to CD-RW. The data on a DVD+RW disc can be erased and recorded over numerous times without damaging the medium. Note: DVDs that have been made using a +R/+RW device can be read by most commercial DVD-ROM players.
