2. Important Values…
• Values are very
important, and in this
slideshow I will explain
several values that are
important to me, and
why they’re important,
plus how they’ve
influenced my decision
making, as well as
shaped my life.
3. Family Security
• I value my family 100% because
they support me though
everything, and always have
my back no matter what! My
parents did not complete their
college education, and only one
of my sisters got her A.A. but
because they all believe in me,
they encourage me to finish my
education because they know I
can. Whenever I have trouble I
know I can always turn to
them, including my extended
family as well. My family has
encouraged me to try hard, not
be afraid to fail, and allowed
me to become the young
woman I am today.
4. Knowledge
&Education
I, along with most college
students, value education
because I know that education is
very important. It takes hard
work and dedication to complete
college, but with the willingness
one can complete and achieve
their dreams. I have struggled
through community college, but
through hard work and sacrifice, I
just submitted my Cal State
University of Northridge
application yesterday. I am very
proud of myself for coming this
far, because school has been
really hard and I have had to
focus and concentrate on the long
term goal.
5. Happiness
• Sometimes it’s hard to be happy,
with the corrupt
society/government we have in
America, but we also don’t realize
the things that do make us happy.
The fact that some of us are still
employed, the fact that we have
family who loves us
unconditionally, friends who are
always there for us, the fact that
we have a roof over our head, we
have food, etc. I remind myself
often, (although I should do it
everyday) that I need to be
thankful for what I do have
instead of everything I don’t
have.
6. Ambition
• Ambition is very important to
have and someone who has it
should be valued because
that essentially means they’re
willing to work hard for many
things. I know many people
who expect things to just
come to them, and have them
handed to them, instead of
wanting to work for them. I
consider myself an ambitious
person in every aspect of my
life, I really inherited this trait
from my dad because he has
always taught me to work
hard for everything in life.
7. Independence
• Independence is also a highly valued
trait I believe and posses because I
love to be independent, especially as
a young woman. Many females still
think men are dominant to them,
but I disagree with that. We are in a
new era where everyone is equal no
matter color or gender, and no one
can say anything about that. I have
friends who allow their boyfriends
to run their lives because they don’t
feel that they’re at their boyfriends
level. I completely disagree because
females today stand up and are
strong. The fact that females
couldn’t do this before influences
decision and my behaviors because I
know before women didn’t even
have the right to vote, and now
we’re just as equal as men and that’s
very empowering.
8. Responsibility
• Being responsible is something to be
proud of because it’s a highly valued
characteristic, that can sometimes
be rare. It’s important to be
responsible in school because of
deadlines, with work on time,
complete tasks by deadlines, friends
with timing, family, every aspect of
life. When someone is responsible
they’re more easily trusted,
respected, and admired. They’re
looked up to, and acknowledged as a
“good” person. My parents have
taught me to be responsible, as well
as school, and work because I had
deadlines, and times to meet,, if
they weren’t there would be
consequences.
9. Honesty is the Best Policy!!! People
and employers value honest people
Honesty because they can be trusted.
Honest people are those who do
the right thing when no one is
watching, because in their heart
they’re truly genuine people. I value
honest people because people who
constantly lie for no reason, are not
people I want or need to be around
because they can never be trusted.
If someone is lying over something
small, who is to say they won’t lie
about something huge. I am not
completely honest because
sometimes it can be hard to be, but
for the important things I do not lie,
because I expect people to be
honest with me as well. Making
decisions concerning an honest
person is quite easy, because they
can be trusted.
10. • Love is so important to know because one
who never experiences any kind of love, is
Love definitely missing out. Whether that be
love from one’s family, friendship,
boyfriend/girlfriend, etc. I have been in my
relationship for 8 years, but I have learned
it’s hard work, loyalty, willingness, trusting,
confusing, and so many more emotions
that are hard to understand. Since I have
learned what love is, I give different advice
to friends who are struggling with their
relationships, as oppose to a girl who is
single and has never experienced the love I
have. I treat people who I love with all my
heart differently because I know how much
they mean, and I know their value to me.
Love should and can be unconditional,
when it is it can be the best thing ever. My
parents love for me, I am so grateful for
and because of the way they love me, I will
love my children just like that and provide
the nurture they provided for me.
11. What I’ve Learned….
• Thanks to assignments and discussions in class I have been able to
choose which issues are worth evaluating, and which are not. I have
taught myself to take a step back in a situation, evaluate the most
important points, and choose the best decision. Decision making is very
important and can be crucial depending on the situation. When making
decisions, one should consider both sides, think which side will benefit
the most, and truly choose with an important state of mind the most
logical decision. I recently had an incident with some friends, I did not
want to be the person to confront the problem, because I was always
that person. After a month of no communication with people who I
spoke to on a daily basis, I decided to send a text wishing them a happy
thanksgiving and hope they enjoyed their day. I did not want to do that,
but this class taught me decisions are important, and sometimes you
have to make decisions and moves you don’t necessarily want to, but at
the end of the day you’re satisfied knowing YOU were the bigger
responsible person. I’m glad I took this course with Prof .Marteney, who
created a very smooth online course for students to enjoy and learn.
