C.ABSTRACTION
What is personal protective equipment?
Personal protective equipment, commonly referred to as "PPE", is equipment worn
to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses.
These injuries and illnesses may result from contact with chemical, radiological,
physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards. Personal protective
equipment may include items such as gloves, safety glasses and shoes, earplugs or
muffs, hard hats, respirators, or coveralls, vests and full body suits.
Food borne diseases are a challenge for both develop and developing countries
(Da Cunha et.al., 2022), and are a leading cause of illness and death in the developing
countries(Hassanet.al., 2010). Despite concerted effortsfor several decades’ food borne
diseasesfood borne diseasesremain a main global public health issue with substantial
morbidity and mortality associated with the consumption of contaminated food stuffs
(Havelaar et.al., 2010). In this study, there are 50 positive responses out of 94 agreed
that PPE use reduces food contamination risk. According to the study conducted by
(Lestantyo, D., Husodo, A. H., Iravati, S., & Shaluhiyah,Z. (2017) about 96.6% agreed
that wearing fully equipped Personal Protective Equipment when on duty is one of the
food handlers’ practices in the kitchen.
In the Labor Code of the Philippines, Rule 1080 otherwise known as Personal
Protective Equipment and Devices states the general provision of using personal
protective equipment at work. Thus, all employers are obliged to issue freeand complete
PPE upon hiring.
In the theory of realism by Aristotle, modified by Russel, realism is the
reinforcement of our common acceptance of this world as it appears to us. Therefore,
we should protect, care, and prepare our students for their future life. One way to
prepare our students is to teach them the proper way to protect and care of their own
self in their future endeavors.
To accurately don PPE, the below sequence is followed:
1. Perform hand hygiene prior to donning PPE.
2. Put on gown
a. Gowns must fully cover team members’ torsos from neck to knees, arms
to wrists and must wrap around their back
3. Put on mask or respirator
a. Ties must be secured around earsor the back of the head
b. The flexible band must be fitted to the nose bridge
c. Masks must fit snug to the face and below the chin
4. Put on goggles or face shield
a. Both must be placed over the face and eyesand adjusted to fit
5. Put on gloves
a. Gloves must be extended to cover the wrist of the gown that was already
put on
When removing PPE, all pieces are considered contaminated and there is a particular
sequence team members follow to ensure they avoid any infectious materials.
To accurately doff PPE, the below sequence is followed:
1. Remove gown and gloves
a. Gowns are pulled away from the front of the body using only gloved hands
so that the ties break. As the gown is pulled off, gloves are also peeled at
the same time and only the inside of the gloves are touched in this process
2. Remove goggles or face shield
a. Goggles and face shieldsare removed from the back of the head, lifting any
bands without touching the front to avoid contamination
3. Remove mask or respirator
a. Masks and respirators must be grasped from the ties or elastics in the
back and removed without touching the front to avoid contamination
Hand hygiene must be performed between steps if hands become contaminated
and immediately after removing all PPE. All PPE is placed in appropriate waste
containers and team members must immediately wash their hands or use an alcohol-
based hand sanitizer after removing.
DONNING PPE DOFFING PPE
1. Perform hand hygiene 1.Remove shoe covers if applicable
1. Put on shoe covers (if applicable) 2.Remove gloves and gown together
2. Put on gown 3.Perform hand hygiene
3. Put on mask/ respirator 4. Remove eye protection-goggles or face
shield
4. Put on eye protection-goggles or
face shield
5. Remove mask/ respirator
5. Put on gloves 6.Perform hand hygiene
D.APPLICATION
In your kitchen at home, wear and remove properly your personal protective
equipment while washing your kitchen utensils. Make it sure to take pictures from
beginning up to the end. Print your pictures in a computer shop and paste it in a long
bond paper. You can also send your pictures directly to my Messenger account. In the
unavailability of gadget at home and financial constraint in printing your pictures you
can just write narrative report of your activity. Ask the help of your family member to
this.
IV. Evaluation
Direction: Using the table below, write the step-by-step donning and doffing of
personal protective equipment. Write your answer in a yellow paper.
V.ASSIGNMENT

C.ABSTRACTION What is personal protective equipment? Personal protective equipment, commonly referred to as "PPE", is equipment worn to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses. These injuries and illnesses may result from contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards. Personal protective equipment may include items such as gloves, safety glasses and shoes, earplugs or muffs, hard hats, respirators, or coveralls, vests and full body suits. Food borne diseases are a challenge for both develop and developing countries (Da Cunha et.al., 2022), and are a leading cause of illness and death in the developing countries(Hassanet.al., 2010). Despite concerted effortsfor several decades’ food borne diseasesfood borne diseasesremain a main global public health issue with substantial morbidity and mortality associated with the consumption of contaminated food stuffs (Havelaar et.al., 2010). In this study, there are 50 positive responses out of 94 agreed that PPE use reduces food contamination risk. According to the study conducted by (Lestantyo, D., Husodo, A. H., Iravati, S., & Shaluhiyah,Z. (2017) about 96.6% agreed that wearing fully equipped Personal Protective Equipment when on duty is one of the food handlers’ practices in the kitchen. In the Labor Code of the Philippines, Rule 1080 otherwise known as Personal Protective Equipment and Devices states the general provision of using personal protective equipment at work. Thus, all employers are obliged to issue freeand complete PPE upon hiring. In the theory of realism by Aristotle, modified by Russel, realism is the reinforcement of our common acceptance of this world as it appears to us. Therefore, we should protect, care, and prepare our students for their future life. One way to prepare our students is to teach them the proper way to protect and care of their own self in their future endeavors. To accurately don PPE, the below sequence is followed: 1. Perform hand hygiene prior to donning PPE. 2. Put on gown a. Gowns must fully cover team members’ torsos from neck to knees, arms to wrists and must wrap around their back 3. Put on mask or respirator a. Ties must be secured around earsor the back of the head b. The flexible band must be fitted to the nose bridge
  • 5. c. Masks must fit snug to the face and below the chin 4. Put on goggles or face shield a. Both must be placed over the face and eyesand adjusted to fit 5. Put on gloves a. Gloves must be extended to cover the wrist of the gown that was already put on When removing PPE, all pieces are considered contaminated and there is a particular sequence team members follow to ensure they avoid any infectious materials. To accurately doff PPE, the below sequence is followed: 1. Remove gown and gloves a. Gowns are pulled away from the front of the body using only gloved hands so that the ties break. As the gown is pulled off, gloves are also peeled at the same time and only the inside of the gloves are touched in this process 2. Remove goggles or face shield a. Goggles and face shieldsare removed from the back of the head, lifting any bands without touching the front to avoid contamination 3. Remove mask or respirator a. Masks and respirators must be grasped from the ties or elastics in the back and removed without touching the front to avoid contamination Hand hygiene must be performed between steps if hands become contaminated and immediately after removing all PPE. All PPE is placed in appropriate waste containers and team members must immediately wash their hands or use an alcohol- based hand sanitizer after removing. DONNING PPE DOFFING PPE 1.
