Police ask public for help in case of kidnapped girl

Police yesterday opened their investigation into the kidnapping of a 12 year-old elementary school girl in order to obtain public
        help.
Daegu Dalseong Police Precinct announced that two men in their 20s broke into a house in Dalseong County, Daegu at around
4:10 a.m. on May 30 and started beating the girl’s 71-year-old grandfather, identified only by the last name Hur, in the main
bedroom. The man’s eldest granddaughter, Hur Eun-jeong, tried to stop the attack and was kidnapped, police said. Eun-jeong’s
younger sister, 10, was hiding in the next room and called the police.
“I was lying down when a man entered my room and started punching me in the face. After a while, the other one helped him
and then they kidnapped her,” Hur said. “One of two said, ‘I came here to kill you.’”
Investigators presume that the two suspects have a grudge against Hur because they have made no ransom demands and did not
steal anything from the house. The two schoolgirls live with their grandfather, away from their parents, due to financial problems
in the family. Police have discovered that the missing girl called a close friend three times between June 1 and 2. “According to
her friend, the missing gi- rl said, ‘I was released after being kidnapped,’ on the phone,” the officer said. “However, she did not
call us. We are now trying to discover her whereabouts in order to gain some clues into the case.”
Police had been conducting a closed investigation, but opened the probe to the public yesterday after failing to make any progress
        in the case.
They cited the lack of a ransom demand as a source of difficulty, compounded by inconsistent statements from the injured
        man.
“By opening the investigation into the incident, we are requesting the public’s help,” said an officer who declined to be named.

Innocent men are suffering from kidnapping

As the increase of the caution about kidnapping, some blameless men got emotional injuries. Men who have to wear cap or mask
such as bald men or surgical patients are suffering from other people’s detestation. Because the criminal of the kidnapping in ‘Il-
san’ was shown on the TV with mask and cap.
The workers who have to visit private home are worried about the heavy blow to their busines, either.
Mr. Lee(43, self-employed, Seoul) had embarrassing experience. He was going to hospital with his son who has asthma, wearing
mask because of the sandstorm. Just at that moment, he saw a woman running away with her daughter from him. He was upset
because he was treated like kidnapping crimianal.
Mr. Kim(45, sales-man, Seoul) was also misunderstood as criminal. After an hour walk, he was entering the lobby of his apart-
ment. At that time, he noticed that the doors of elevator were closing, so he ran toward the elevator. But the kid in the elevator
was frightened and close the doors quickly. He couldn’t help feeling bitter, even though he also taught his children to be careful
with the strangers.

TRUST Problem Statement

        Nobody Knows Everyone.
Our society consists of strangers bonded with trust. However the parents, the teachers teach their children and students NOT TO BELIEVE STRANGERS. It is very ironic situ-
ation. We should try to trust other people, but we can’t trust them because of the scary accident happening everyseconds and everywhere.
Trust and Safety. Keep good position between them is really important

IN KOREA, We don’t have The Law Not to Leave Children under certain age alone at home
In america or in other western countries have law to protect children from being left home alone. The age restriction not to be left home is differ from state to state, but
under 12 is the suggested age, because children under 12 is not mature enough to realize and cope with dangerous situation.
However most of the eastern countries doesn’t have that kind of law.

Children in Korea need some device to help to distinguish the visitor outside of the door is reliable or not.

  • 4. Understanding the Problem ms TRUST Fact articles _ Story 1 Police ask public for help in case of kidnapped girl Police yesterday opened their investigation into the kidnapping of a 12 year-old elementary school girl in order to obtain public help. Daegu Dalseong Police Precinct announced that two men in their 20s broke into a house in Dalseong County, Daegu at around 4:10 a.m. on May 30 and started beating the girl’s 71-year-old grandfather, identified only by the last name Hur, in the main bedroom. The man’s eldest granddaughter, Hur Eun-jeong, tried to stop the attack and was kidnapped, police said. Eun-jeong’s younger sister, 10, was hiding in the next room and called the police. “I was lying down when a man entered my room and started punching me in the face. After a while, the other one helped him and then they kidnapped her,” Hur said. “One of two said, ‘I came here to kill you.’” Investigators presume that the two suspects have a grudge against Hur because they have made no ransom demands and did not steal anything from the house. The two schoolgirls live with their grandfather, away from their parents, due to financial problems in the family. Police have discovered that the missing girl called a close friend three times between June 1 and 2. “According to her friend, the missing gi- rl said, ‘I was released after being kidnapped,’ on the phone,” the officer said. “However, she did not call us. We are now trying to discover her whereabouts in order to gain some clues into the case.” Police had been conducting a closed investigation, but opened the probe to the public yesterday after failing to make any progress in the case. They cited the lack of a ransom demand as a source of difficulty, compounded by inconsistent statements from the injured man. “By opening the investigation into the incident, we are requesting the public’s help,” said an officer who declined to be named. • 5. Fact articles _ Story 2 Innocent men are suffering from kidnapping As the increase of the caution about kidnapping, some blameless men got emotional injuries. Men who have to wear cap or mask such as bald men or surgical patients are suffering from other people’s detestation. Because the criminal of the kidnapping in ‘Il- san’ was shown on the TV with mask and cap. The workers who have to visit private home are worried about the heavy blow to their busines, either. Mr. Lee(43, self-employed, Seoul) had embarrassing experience. He was going to hospital with his son who has asthma, wearing mask because of the sandstorm. Just at that moment, he saw a woman running away with her daughter from him. He was upset because he was treated like kidnapping crimianal. Mr. Kim(45, sales-man, Seoul) was also misunderstood as criminal. After an hour walk, he was entering the lobby of his apart- ment. At that time, he noticed that the doors of elevator were closing, so he ran toward the elevator. But the kid in the elevator was frightened and close the doors quickly. He couldn’t help feeling bitter, even though he also taught his children to be careful with the strangers. • 6. Understanding the Problem ms TRUST Why Trust?? Our Society, which is based on trust, teaches children NEVER to trust strangers.
  • 7. Suggestions from NSPCC | National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children NSPCC | National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children http://www.nspcc.org.uk/HelpAndAdvice/Parentsandcare rs/HomeAlone/homealone_wda35965.html If you do leave a child alone, remember: If possible, leave a telephone number where you can be contacted, and be available to answer it immediately. Talk to your child about keeping safe at home and point out the potential dangers. Tell them not to answer the door to strangers. Give clear instructions about what to do if there’s an emergency . All children left alone should be able to phone the emergency services. Leave a list of trusted people they can contact. Put obvious dangers out of reach of children, eg medicines, chemicals, matches , etc. Make sure that the child is happy ababout the arrangements and confident about being left . Tell the child when you’ll be back, and make sure you’re back on time. Talk to him or her about it afterwards . 03 Yejin Mun | Product Design | 2008 Summer Intensive | Parsons The New School for Design | Professor _ Robert Rabinovitz | Copyright © Yejin Mun. • 8. Understanding the Problem ms TRUST Problem Statement Nobody Knows Everyone. Our society consists of strangers bonded with trust. However the parents, the teachers teach their children and students NOT TO BELIEVE STRANGERS. It is very ironic situ- ation. We should try to trust other people, but we can’t trust them because of the scary accident happening everyseconds and everywhere. Trust and Safety. Keep good position between them is really important IN KOREA, We don’t have The Law Not to Leave Children under certain age alone at home In america or in other western countries have law to protect children from being left home alone. The age restriction not to be left home is differ from state to state, but under 12 is the suggested age, because children under 12 is not mature enough to realize and cope with dangerous situation. However most of the eastern countries doesn’t have that kind of law. Children in Korea need some device to help to distinguish the visitor outside of the door is reliable or not.
