Q. Cisco® hardware will be only on-premises, is that right?
A. Yes, that is correct. But it is not mandatory for the solution.
Q. Will this presentation cover the architecture?
A. We w ill cover the high-level architecture and components, as w ell as the use cases supported for the solution.
Q. How does networking take place between two pods?
A. On the on-premises side, the Cisco Container Platform comes w ith our open source container netw orking
overlay component – Contiv. This is w hat w ill be used for netw orking betw een the pods.
Q. Is there any out-of-box integration between on-premises Cisco devices and Google Cloud Platform
(GCP) Cisco solutions?
A. The Cisco on-premises devices here are Cisco HyperFlex™ (Cisco UCS® C240), ASR 1000 Series, Cisco
Catalyst® sw itches, and Cisco Nexus® 9000 Series Sw itches (Cisco ACI™). There is a recommended bill of
materials that has been curated for this stack.
Q. What is the network integration plan Cisco has with Google in regard to connectivity options? In many
cloud providers, routing traffic in hybrid environments lacks options when it comes to easily connecting
on-premises and cloud environments.
A. Connectivity betw een the tw o environments is being handled by the Cloud Services Router (CSR) 1000V or an
alternative Google VPN service.
Q. Is it the ASR 1000 Series or the CSR?
A. We use the ASR 1000 Series for public egress and ingress. The CSR 1000V is used to set up a secure VPN
tunnel for traffic.
Q. So it’s not much different from other cloud environments, since the CSR 1000V is available in Amazon
and Azure?
A. Yes, in the case of the CSR 1000V. To clarify, CSR 1000V is just one of the components of the solution that
manages connectivity. The core value of the solution is around the use cases and being able to leverage API calls
betw een the tw o environments, as w ellas w ith the innovation w ith Apigee.
Q. Apigee should be on the GCP side, not the Cisco side?
A. The idea is that Google Apigee is fronting the pull of the data from non-API exposable repositories w hich are on
the left side. The positioning is just for illustrative purposes and is meant to indicate that on-premises apps can now
participate in a hybrid cloud environment.

Q. Are there details on Contiv networking?
A. Yes, w e do have more details, but it’s too much to cover in this w ebinar. At a high level, w e have a number of
netw orking options. For non Cisco ACI w e provide a Contiv-VPP Container Netw ork Interface (CNI). For Cisco ACI
w e provide a Cisco ACI CNI, and w e also support Calico as an industry standard.
Q. What about the legacy workloads that are not container based?
A. They don't have to be container based. Apigee can pull data from anything.
Q. K8s in GCP and on-premises will be two independent clusters, right?
A. Correct. But there is mapping betw een them via Cisco CloudCenter™.
Q. What is Apigee?
A. Apigee is Google's acquired API management service. In the context of our solution, Apigee is used to expose
to APIs existing legacy services on-premises and combine that data w ith services from Google Cloud. Visit:

Q. Is Cisco Meraki® included in this?
A. No, Cisco Meraki is not included.
Q. What is CGP?
A. That w as a mistake during the presentation. What w as meant w as GCP (Google Cloud Platform).
Q. Is there a direct-connect option vs. VPN? Either a physical circuit or via a cloud exchange provider such
as Equinix?
A. Yes, but it depends on the provider.
