"Umeed - A Drop Of Hope" Is A Youth Club Formed By Youths Of The Nation, The Basic Motto
Of Which Is Social Service. Besides The Main Motto, The Basic Idea Of Such A Formation Is To
Help Each And Every Human Being Who Needs Help.
Umeed works for education for needy children who are under difficult circumstances, such as child
labour, children of poorest of the parents, children inflicted and affected with HIV/AIDS, street
and runaway children, children with rare disabilities, disaster struck children and slum children.
8. 8
Special emphasis is given on girl education and women education, so that they and their families
get empowered.
Umeed is a registered national NGO with head office in New Delhi. Established in 2011. "Umeed
- A Drop Of Hope" Is A Youth Club Formed By Youths Of The Nation, The Basic Motto Of
Which Is Social Service. Besides The Main Motto, The Basic Idea Of Such A Formation Is To
Help Each And Every Human Being Who Needs Help.
Founder:
Subhrajeet Gautam, a young college student, was driven by the monumental dream to bring a day
when no child would be deprived of the basic rights be it food, clothing, education, medical
security and healthy living environment.
Like most of us, Subhrajeet too was upset observing the disparities between privileged and
underprivileged children. He never wanted to see children begging and working as servants.
And unlike most of us, he did something about it and tried to make a difference.
“What I can do, I must do!” These were the words which kept the fire burning within him and
since then acting as a constant source of motivation.
He joined the Social Responsibility Club in his college. He visited slums, children in hospitals,
held teaching classes for street children, and started a clothes donation movement at a slum the
club adopted.
9. 9
In 2011 Subhrajeet started ‘Umeed: a drop of hope’ with a seed capital of Rs.1500/- i.e. his
monthly pocket money. He felt the urge that something needs to be done to improve the situation
of the underprivileged children. Since inception 80,000+ children have directly benefitted from
this initiative. Subhrajeet made relentless efforts provided the necessary things e.g. clothes, food,
medicine and other basic things to thousands of people from the under-privileged sections of the
society.
Subhrajeet was firmly convinced that each of us can, in our own small way, can bring a difference
by being the agents of change. So just imagine the intensity and impact when all of us are moved
to this, the better impact would be lasting change. His initiatives help youth inculcate respect,
sensitivity and the power of empathising with others. This enables them to be even more valuable
and appreciated members of our society who paves way for a much better present as well as future
for everyone.
Apart from being the founder of UMEED- A drop of hope, Mr. Subhrajeet Gautam is a mentor to
the organisation and a coach to the stakeholders, volunteers, interns and other associates of the
organisation. He is relentlessly guiding others and thriving to make a better society bringing lasting
impacts.

1.2 PROJECTS
1.2.1 PARIDHAN
11. 11
One man's waste can be another man's treasure. It is a more realistic and doable way of contributing
towards the society. Paridhan does not deal in monetary donations but in old household stuff as
Clothes, Toys, Books, and Stationary etc.
The main objective of Paridhan is to provide the necessary things to millions of poor and needy
people facing great hardship and health risk due to lack of proper clothing and other basic things
in far flung and urban slums of the country and promote child education in underprivileged class
of society. We work towards nullifying the misbalance caused by us, our society and people; and
emphasize the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Realize" mentality in our daily lives.
What all can you donate ?
You can donate almost everything like books, stationary, clothes, utensils, electrical appliances
(Mobile, computer), bed sheets, toys, blankets, shoes, sporting goods….. Anything in good
condition that you don't use anymore might help someone in need. These items will be sorted,
repaired, sewed, packaged, transported and distributed to the rural areas & urban slums throughout
India.
They are setting up 100+ old stuff collection boxes/ centres' across Delhi in different places as
residential housing societies, shopping centres, malls, corporate parks, Schools, colleges and
industrial areas in first phase.
How does it works ?
12. 12
Paridhan is a united sustainable effort that works through your valuable contributions. The
collection, sorting, sewing, packaging, repairing of electronic products, transportation and
distribution of clothes and other things are done with a proper planning, management and
execution. We have several dedicated teams which look after different phases of work.
1.2.2 GO GREEN
Go Green is a Umeed a drop of hope initiative to save the environment through tree plantation
and adoption by public and corporate participation and support where people can plant, gift, donate
and adopt trees online in just one click from their home/office on different occasions and
celebrations.
We also conduct tree plantation drive with corporates as a part of CSR activity throughout
the year.
What We Do
Tree Plantation :
We strive to replant green belts and forests destroyed by human action through our innovative
well-structured plans and responsible planting by the help of individuals & corporate alliances.
We plant donated plants by people and corporates in various places of need through our
dedicated partners across India under our proper guidance.
13. 13
They also conduct tree plantation drives across Delhi and suburbs in Housing Societies,
Corporates Parks, Schools, Colleges, open grounds, barren lands and such any other available
locations throughout the year.
Taking Care of Plants :
Just planting a sapling is not enough. We nurse it to become a Tree. Apart from plantation, a
plant needs love and care like a baby until it is self-sustainable.As we found, most people forget
about the plants after plantation and that is whytheir survival rate is very low.So resolve this
problem by taking care of plants manually as well as through different technical methods such as
installation of automated watering system through “Drip Irrigation” which makes it easy to water
the plants and save water and time.
Tree Adoption :
We humbly request everyone to adopt trees apart from plantation. Adopting a tree ensures its
success in fully growing and maturing. We arrange maintenance and care for the adopted tree on
your behalf and we ensure the sampling will become a tree in its time. Please consider adopting a
tree as this is a truly beneficial service to all green life on our Planet!
Go Green provides a common platform and involve youths in social and environmental causes
& activities and make them understand the importance of Environment and how the power of
youth and togetherness can contribute and bring positive change in our society and Mother
Nature. Here youth and colleges can show case their green ideas, thoughts, social leadership,
innovation, technology and how they can positively transform environment and society.
14. 14
They organize discussion, presentation and talk on Green sustainable Leadership, Sustainable
future, Green Idea, Green innovative technology, workshops (on “Best out of Waste, Waste
management, Presentation on Green Birth Day celebration , tree plantation & clean-up drive,
Clean & Green campus, Marathon, , Bicycle rally, Human chain for cause and many other
activities as per need and requirements.
This initiative makes our youth a more respectful, proud, and conscious, sensible character,
which will enable them to be even more valuable and appreciated members of our society. And
will help to pave the way for a much better green present and future for all.
We invite all colleges/ educational institutes from across the globe to be an essential part of
Go Green campaign, mail us a detail copy of proposal about event/activity
on info@umeedngo.org . As a partner of initiative your college will gain a number of invaluable
benefits, such as: Clean & Green campus, opportunity to serve society and humanity, green
events in campus, good will, and positive image in public, green certificate & mementos.
1.2.3 KNOWLEDGE FOR ALL
“A man without education is like a building without a foundation.”
Education is the most vital element needed for any country to evolve gracefully. Education begins
at home and continues throughout our life. There are innumerable aspects to why people need
education. It helps them to learn new things, make a good living and lead a respectable life in the
society.
15. 15
Knowledge for all (KFA) is a national level program of Umeed a drop of hope, which is committed
to provide basic education and training to underprivileged children. Education is both the means
as well as the end to a better life; means, because it empowers an individual to earn his/her
livelihood and the end because it increases one's awareness on a range of issues – from healthcare
to appropriate social behavior to understanding one's rights, and in the process evolve as a better
citizen.
Under our campaign of KNOWLEDGE FOR ALL we aim at providing the most significant value
to the lives of little souls - the value of education.
We work hard for slum kids from different parts of the city to help them earn the better lives they
along with their families dream of.
Alongside providing knowledge about the curriculum, we also actively indulge with the children
in making sure they learn and practice sanitation and hygiene maintenance and acquire the essential
life skills.
Academic assistance-
We conduct educational events every Sunday in different slum areas to assist children living in
these slums with their academics. For every area there is a different team of members including
volunteer tutors as well as project managers from different colleges and universities.
Social skills development-
At Umeed, we are dedicated to not just look at the academics of our young minds, but also their
all-round development. From time to time, we organise activities for children to play and learn
16. 16
important social skills that help them grow as confident and smart as any other privileged kid.
These activities include several painting, singing and dancing and poetry competitions.
Awareness campaigns-
Our teams are engaged in designing and organising activities to increase awareness about
significant issues like proper sanitation, self-defence, drug abuse so as to protect them from these
evils as well as to make them advocate about these in the future and eliminate the issues at ground
level from their neighbourhood as well.
Umeed works for education for needy children who are under difficult circumstances, such as
child labour, children of poorest of the parents, children inflicted and affected with HIV/AIDS,
street and runaway children, children with rare disabilities, disaster struck children and slum
children.
Special emphasis is given on girl education and women education, so that they and their families
get empowered. Since its inception in 2011, more than 80,000 children have directly benefitted
from our Knowledge for all (KFA) program. Last Year's Impact: 14,660 children directly provided
with education , 72% of the total eligible students mainstreamed , 61% of the beneficiaries were
girl children , 833 school drop-outs resumed education.
1.3 FUTURE PLANS
17. 17
In accordance with its mission of providing a secure future for the underprivileged children the
future plans revolve around improving and expanding
the home and institutions already being operated by it. More specifically, UMEED-A DROP OF
HOPE would like to get its own school and also have its affiliation to The Central Board of
Secondary Education and provide integrated facility for basic education. For this, Their major
requirement is land where a proper campus can be set up with residential quarters for children and
the school. And also they want to continue it as long as possible with the same consistency.
1.4 OTHER RECENT PROJECTS:
1.4.1 CHULBULI TIE AND DYE EVENT
UMEED-ADROPOF HOPE MIRANDA HOUSE under its PROJECT CHULBULI conducted a
TIEANDDYE EVENT for the underprivileged children on 22nd Feb 2021 @Lucknow
Under this project they provided the kids with cloth, thread and dye.
They were taught to tie and dye clothes with the help of following steps:
First, washing of cloth.
Tying the wet cloth properly with thread in various designs.
18. 18
Putting the tied cloth in boiling salted colored water
After a few minutes , removing the cloth from the utensils and washing it with normal
water to remove extra stain
Let it dry for some time
The motive behind conducting this event was to teach the children something interesting and fun
so that they welcome new skills and find in themselves limitlass capacity to learn and grow both
creatively and intellectually.
1.4.2 ARTIFICIAL NESTS:
An artificial nest provides a platform to common bird species for breeding. The bird collects the
rest of the material . the umeed foundation also conducts such activities as a part of internship in
order to create a healthy environment for birds also.
1.4.3 RATION KIT DISTRIBUTION:
Umeed in collaboration with WENDY’S INDIA distributed food packets , this was an offline drive
at Yamuna khadar slum , near kashmere gate.
Their team in presence of the founder sir distributed ration kit to 80 underprivileged families of
sangam vihar .
1.4.4 IMMUNITY BOOSTER CAMPAIGN :
19. 19
Its not how much we give but how much we put into giving . during a visit to very small area in
pushp vihar, where volunteers were teaching children from 3rd
to 9th
standard , Vitamin C tonic
was distributed among them which would help them in improving their immune system. Since the
basic precaution of saving oneself from covid 19 is building the immune system of a body, the
organisation decided to distribute this tonic to those people who can’t afford vital things during
these times.
1.4.5 COVID AWARENESS, HYGIENE & MARKETING TRAINING:
In the present scenario where COVID-19 has affected everyone’s life is very important to take
proper precautionary measures to fight this and have to maintain proper hygiene. So, she opted for
this task in first place because at this time their primary concern is to fight with COVID-19 and
save all of the lives which they can do more then anything else for our society and country as a
whole . Also the vendors are the only ones who are in direct contact with general public which can
be harmful to either of us. And so to make people more aware about the consequences of the virus
in coming time and tips on how to take precautions this process can save someone’s life.
Its important to make vendors educate about the repercussion of not using proper safely measures.
Otherwise , it can be very dangerous for all of us.
How things were done:
Volunteers went to their near house vegetable , fruit and juice vendors
And asked them basic questions related to hygiene, marketing and precautions related to Covid 19
20. 20
they also suggested some marketing techniques , like having a digital payment option with them
and asked them to not to use plastic bags instead use paper bags made out of newspaper
results:
maximum were wearing masks properly and few were having sanitizaers at their stall
all stalls were clean
1.4.6 GOVERNMENT SCHEME AWARENESS PROGRAM:
Volunteers are approaching slum areas and finding new underprivileged people (rickshaw puller,
domestic maid , wage worker , etc.) and conducting a basic survey to check whether they are
getting benefits of government schemes or not ( eg. Account, insurance schemes, ration card ,
ujawala yojna , labour card , jandhan , housing scheme , etc.)
if not then making them aware of the government schemes which could be beneficial for them .
telling them why that scheme is important , how and where to apply and what documents are
required. And at last helpimg them in filing online forms for that scheme.
1.4.7 SPREADING AWARENESS REGARDING ROAD SAFETY:
Organize roadshows & nukkad natak on road safety
Organized stuns shown by professionals to spread the awareness regarding the importance of
wearing helmets
21. 21
1.4.8 WORLD PAPER BAG DAY:
On occasion of World paper bag day (12th
July), UMEED- A DROP OF HOPE , miranda house
organized a paper bag making ac tivity for its volunteers.
The volunteers were asked to prepare 10 paper bags using old newspapers, used papers and other
discarded papers. They were also asked to distribute them among their neighbors and nearby
shopkeepers. The essential objective behind this was to promote and inculcate eco friendly habits
among the people

Research methodology
Research methodology discusses and explain the data collection and analysis methods I have used
in my research. Research methodology is the approach in which research is conducted
systematically. The scientific approach which is adopted for conducting research is called
methodology. In it we study the various steps that are generally adopted by a researcher in studying
his research problem along with the logic behind them. It is necessary for the researcher to know
not only the research methods or techniques but also the methodology. The study is an exercise
involving estimation of parameters as regard to organizational requirements. Research was
designed so as to get the relevant information that can be used for various organizational purposes.
Data Collection Technique
1) Primary data: It is the first-hand data, new data gathered to help solve the problem
at hand. Data is collected personally for the specific project through research.
Maximun information is collected from the personal approach to head office of

Swot analysis
Although a nonprofit organization is exempt from paying taxes, it still operates like a business.
And just like other businesses, it can operate from a position of informed strategy or from a
position of guessing.
As a business owner, you know the value of doing your research, maximizing resources and
generating revenues. Non-profits can benefit from the same strategies you use in your day-to-day
business planning.
A SWOT analysis is a strategic planning tool that dives into your organization’s internal
strengths and weaknesses and external opportunities and threats. The elements of your SWOT (if
done effectively) should form the core of your organization’s strategic plan.
Here’s a breakdown of what SWOT stands for:
Strengths – internal characteristics of your non profit that give it an advantage over others
Weaknesses – internal characteristics of your non profit that give it a disadvantage
compared to others
Opportunities – external elements that your non profit could use to its advantage (this
could also even be done at a program level)
Threats – external elements in the environment that could cause trouble for your
nonprofit
32. 32
Why is this important?
A SWOT analysis give organization confidence and a better idea of what strategic direction to
go in, as well as an idea of what issues will need to be dealt with. This strategic planning tool
should be used.
Swot analysis of umeed-a drop of hope

projects are for their benefit only
f) Use of local resources
g) There is a huge role of volunteers and interns in the success of projects and campaigns
they work without being paid and saves a really large sum of money which is being
further used for betterment of the society
34. 34
Weaknesses
a) Accountability and transparency. As discussed earlier NGOs are not abide to follow a
proper structure or rule and many a times they are not accountable for their own actions
which is unfair as we support these organisations and we don’t even know if they are
doing right things or not or their all the actions are ethicaly right or not etc. this
transparency issue is a great matter of concern.
b) Issues with funding, in order to operate at large scale in so many states ofcourse they
require huge funds there are few stable sources of finance but they are not enough all the
times and in situations like economic crisis and short funding can lead to full stop on this
path
c) Consistently understaff
d) Gaps in collaboration at the team level
Opportunities
a) Support from donours and other organisations, in order to fulfil corporate social
responsibility many corporates and other organisations or people support umeed
foundation
35. 35
b) Support and buy in from the community, the products like paper bags and other things
produced under campaigns are bought by the community which supports these things of
handicrafts and also provides a source of living for underprivileged people
c) Support from media and other advocacy organisations, as you can se above in figure 3.2,
figure 3.3 and figure 3.4 there is a very crucial and huge role of social media in exixtence
, growth , support and mass funding for all the operations taking place in it.
Threats
a) Operations are not sustainable due to lack of funding it is exactly the same as discussed in
weakness point , due to lack of funding there are many obstacles in its operation due to
which they were not able to work effectively and efficiently at large scale
b) The community may not be as interested as needed, this is fact now a days that there are
very less people who are really concerned about the upliftment of underprivileged and the
people who are really into it are not form long term , after some time they may loose
interest as they are not getting anything else apart from some social and mental
satisfaction of helping others
c) Media or anti ngo organisation in opposite , media have same level of negative impacts as
it has positives. It takes lots of efforts hardwork dedication to create a social image but
one mistake can destroy it fully within seconds , there are many supporters but few critic

also exists who have problem with its actions and working their could be reason like lack
of accountability and transparency but still this is a big threat
d) Restrictions from the government level, as it is a non-governmental organisation they can
avail the benefits or rights or anything else which are provided to government
organisations.

Chapter 4
Recommendation and conclusion
Conclusion
Umeed a drop of hope is a really nice organisation to work because they focuses on many crucial
elements of society which is needed to be improved . they are more into social work but for their
management they have a proper systematic team with which they operate in more than 18 states
of india and is expected to grow more. They have a great human resources and a really big team
of volunteers and interns which are the main element of all the projects and campaigns .
Due to lack of fundings there are some operational issues sometimes but with their such a great
vision, mission , efforts , online reach they are performing really well is a well known organisation
now a days
I’m really glad that I got an opportunity to work for such an organisation which works for others
which works for a better future with sustainable development measures.
They are working for a cause and betterment in society.
We were being guided by one mentor who helped us throughout this internship.
Whenever we felt any kind of confusion we contacted our mentor and they guided us towards the
solution.

Findings
Learning Experience The NGO has helped me a lot in understanding the realities of the outside
world . I also came to know the real meaning of the societal world. There are both negative and
positive experiences of the training, some of which are:
Real experience of the world which help me a lot in understanding how really a society
functions.
Learned how to deal with the world and society.
It helped me in improving my expectation towards the society.
Learning many things regarding social work.
Learning how to maintain balance in personal and professional life.
Aspects Of Improvements Suggested
Firstly, interventions have to be strong.
They have to draw on the best current knowledge of how to tackle the issues, applying it
imaginatively in different context.
Local views are not the only valid opnions about performance. But they cant be ignored.
This is the single most important priority for reform.
Benefits and Observation
SELF-SATISFACTION : Yeah, that’s what makes our life exciting
NETWORK: Your network will be increased, since ,you’ll find many new people working
along with you.
39. 39
IMPROVES YOUR CV: In future, if you would like to apply for some higher study
programs like MBA, you can highlight this work .This would add some weight to your
resume.
PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT: The important factor that stands out you from a pile
of normal people is your communication along with leadership skills. Working for these
type of organizations can improve your communication skills and also it develops the
leadership skills in you. Thus, makes you feel responsible.
Recommendation
Some good things that I can think of:
1. Work was flexible, we got one week time for the completion of one task, meaning we
completed the task according to our own schedule.
2. At the completion of a fun task we needed to submit a document describing how we had
done that task in a detailed manner along with some photos and videos that we could
capture.
3. Apart from that we were required to submit a weekly report .This helped us in formulating
our own ideas and we were encouraged to do our task in a far more creative manner.
4. Its totally upto you whether you want to do this internship on site or from a remote location
all you have to submit report with a valid proof that you have completed it.
40. 40
5. As an intern you work only under those projects which are being conducted by umeed
organisation at that particular period of time like promoting pages , marketing goods ,
increasing awareness and teaching children the basics.
Limitations
1. The website of this company does not provide a good deal of information
2. I contacted headquarters also but due to some concerns they denied to provide some more
details
3. Major constraint of the study is inadequate access to information that hampered the scope
of the analysis required for the study.
4. There weren’t many data figures available on their website.
