Dear friends,
How can our city provider cheaper, faster better, services to
our citizens? That was an oft discussed topic during the
campaign run and continues to be our quest on the city
council.
Some of you may know, we have a team of interns that have
been working behind the scenes researching and helping out
with city council issues and agenda items. Some of our interns
will also have a chance to shadow an elected leader in
Sacramento in July, an opportunity for them to expand their
understanding of the governance process. This team is
learning, collaborating and feeling the empowerment. They
are currently working on various summer projects, one of
which is “How can the city of Saratoga innovate”? I must say,
our interns are bright and have some very interesting ideas.
Earlier this month at the council meeting we discussed rolling
out a customer survey. With every interaction that our city
staff has with citizens, how about if we gathered feedback via
a short survey, so that we can improve, optimize and enhance
our services to our citizen. A plan is being conceived…
What else can we do to innovate and provide services to our
citizens cheaper, faster, better? Your ideas and perspectives
on this topic will help too. Take this short survey here

Wish you all a very happy July 4th. Join us on July 4th at
9:30AM at Kevin Moran Park for our annual July 4th
celebration. Enjoy the festivities, and given the drought, and
how dry everything around us is, fireworks will be more of a
hazard than a celebration. Stay safe and have a fabulous July
4th weekend.
As always, let me know how I can help.
Email is the best way to reach me.
Thanks
Rishi (rkumar@saratoga.ca.us)

The Saratoga Union School
District Board of Trustees invites
you (parents, staff, students, and
community members) to provide
input as we seek to hire a new
Superintendent. Please take a few
minutes to complete this survey so
we can create a list of desired
characteristics that our new
Superintendent should exemplify.
Your voice matters. Thank you for
taking time to share your
thoughts. All responses are
anonymous and confidential. The
survey will close on July 13, 2015.

Ordinance
Establishing
Tobacco Retailer
License
The Saratoga City Council has
voted to introduce and waive the
first reading of an ordinance to
create a tobacco retailer license,
which regulates e-cigarettes. This
means that retailers would have
to get a license to sell tobacco
products, paraphernalia and
electronic smoking devices. If the
ordinance is adopted, it would
likely go into effect in October.
Neighborhood
Watch & Crime
Prevention
At a joint City Council and
Neighborhood meeting, Captain
Rick Sung, Santa Clara County
Sheriff’s Office and his team
presented on the benefits of
neighborhood watch programs
and to form a neighborhood
watch. Many neighborhood
groups participated and it was an
engaging dialogue. The
presentations from that evening
meeting are posted at
Facebook.com/groups/SafeSarat
oga. If you are interested in
forming a neighborhood safety
watch, please contact Rishi. He
has enabled such a safety watch
for many neighborhoods and will
be happy to walk your
neighborhood through the
process.
