THE COMPLETE DIGITAL PUBLISHING PRODUCTION SOLUTION
DIGITALPUBLISHER
IGP
DIGITAL
PUBLISHER
DIGITIZE ONCE
USE FOREVER
It's a Digital Content World
Books have been produced with digital
tools for decades, mostly with WYSIWIG
DTP-desktop publishing applications.
That is not digital content publishing!
DTP applications create proprietary files
which have little to no future value. For the
files to survive and be useful in the future
they have to be converted across software
versions. Usually old file versions cannot
be reused.
Desktop applications are being upgraded
to export ebook formats such as ePub; but
format production is only a part of a real
digital content strategy. The file problem
and inflexibility remains.
Print publishing is about creating a book,
perhaps with a hardcover and paperback
edition, and then just reprinting for the
sales life of the book.
Digital content publishing is doing that;
plus making the content available in
ebook formats; plus making sure the
content is available for new products or
formats at any time; plus being ready for
any new demands from the digital reader
market; plus giving publishers the ability
to innovate with new products, services
and innovations.
We are at the start of a new digital content
era. HTML5, CSS-3 and Javascript rule the
digital content space.
WYSIWIG in a single proprietary format just
doesn't deliver. Digital content publishing
should be a lot more than just getting some
sort of ebook formats out today.
Now is the time for publishers to make the
workflow changes to make sure your content
can deliver current business requirements and
new value into the foreseeable future. You
content must be:
• Secure
• Trustworthy
• Available
• Ready to work
• Extensible
• Reusable
The good news! The solution is available to
make sure every publisher is ready to meet
the challenges of the future.
IGP:Digital Publisher gives publishers
an immediate, complete and solid
foundation for a complete and
future-proofed digital content
business strategy.
It starts with the content..
...and how that content...
...is prepared and maintained.

Administration InterfaceThe Administration interface is the entry point to
IGP:Digital Publisher. It is easy to learn and easy to
use. Users only see as much of the interface as their
role requires.
IGP:Digital Publisher makes it easy to organize books
into projects and control access to those projects to
authorized people. Documents and projects can be
organized, searched and retrieved by custom meta-
data fields.
Users can create and edit documents at any time.
They can organize their documents using book-
marks and quickly navigate to recent documents.
Administrators control account users, projects,
documents, remixing permissions and templates.
Maintainers control accounts and have overview of
all activity, components and documents in all ac-
counts.
The administration console is independent from the
production tools and connects through APIs. This
makes the system easy to customize and integrate
with other tools in a publisher's operation.
IGP:Digital Publisher is i18n (Internationalization)
ready with a built-in interface translation database.
IGP:DIGITAL PUBLISHER
The Production Modules
* FX. IGP:FoundationXHTML.
IGP:Digital Publisher is a highly modularized
application. This means the various modules
can be upgraded independently to keep in
alignment with international specifications
while being easy to customize for any new
features.
The heart of IGP:Digital Publisher is
your valuable content stored in FX*.
Your content is imported from your
manuscripts and transformed into
IGP:FoundationXHTML.
Your content is now available to the
tools and processors and can be
edited and styled for your required
formats and to your house
standards.
Your content remains in IGP:Digital
Publisher under trustworthy
management ready to work into
the future.
Batteries Included
IGP:Digital Publisher has all the tools needed to create
new and original books as print editions, e-books and
other content packages. There are no optional extras
because they are not required. DP is the state of the art
of commercial digital content production, while being
easy to customize for any requirement.
For all stakeholders
IGP:Digital Publisher is a complete production and
content management environment. It has the modules
and tools for authors, editors, designers, production
operators, reviewers and anybody else.
Now let's look at the modules one by one.
IGP:DIGITAL PUBLISHER
IGP:Writer
IGP:Writer is the central authoring, edit-
ing and tagging interface where the
real production work is carried out on
the content.
There are tools available for all stake-
holders from this one interface.
Working with the content
IGP:Writer has been designed to be simple to learn and
use. Text editing uses a familar word-processor-like
interface. When required the XHTML tagging is carried
out by applying tagging patterns. No-one sees the XML.
Authors and editors can work right into the interface
with all the tools for proof updates and with the
assurance that infinite undo is backing them up.
The major tool groups
Editorial Tools are used to edit and change the content:
Tagging Tools applying structural and semantic value
to the content: Section Tools - create and manage the
document structure: Design Tools - set and change the
layout and look and feel: and Linking Tools - for
interactive subject linking and Indexing.
Every editing and production tool you need is just a click
or two away.
IGP:DIGITAL PUBLISHER
IGP:Reader
IGP:Reader is your instant output snap-
shot. It lets you view your content
exactly as it will be seen in print or as
an ebook whenever you want.
IGP:Reader also opens in a stand-alone window.
You can navigate a whole document and access
the Remix Selection Tools.
Working with the content
You can switch freely between Print and Reader preview
at any time, or use the stand-alone IGP:Reader viewport
for engagement with your complete document. Know
exactly how your content is going to appear before
generating formats. The composition PDF mode inserts
paragraph numbers that exactly match the paragraph
numbers in IGP:Writer. This makes it simple to correlate
content between the two interfaces.
Fixed layout CSS Direct Design (CDD)
In advanced templates IGP:Reader give access to CDD.
Directly design your page layout for fixed layout. CDD
and access all CSS properties with a single click on an
element. CDD uses the behaviour power designed into
FX to position, size and z-order your presentation
content. That same content can also be interactive using
the in-built AZARDI Interactive Engine, Widgets or ALL-IN
learning object library.
IGP:DIGITAL PUBLISHER
IGP:Formats On Demand
Generate any one of dozens of formats
or packages whenever you want with a
single click. The format is ready in a few
seconds.
The power, purpose and business strategy con-
tribution of IGP:Digital Publisher is most clearly
seen with IGP:Formats On Demand (FOD). The
generated formats are all complete, finished,
business ready packages; all from the same
master content source.
Formats On Demand is highly customizable and
extensible. That means as your digital content
business changes and the market changes
Formats On Demand will be ready.
Instant Format Generation
Print and Online PDFs including crops and crosses and
special proofing composition PDFs.
Ebook formats for all devices That means ePub2,
ePub3 (fixed and reflowable), Kindle Mobi and KF8.
Dumb-down options for ADE are built-in.
Online Packages Special publishing packages such as
Static Sites and WebApp packages and more.
Word Processor formats It even allows you to output to
standard Word Processor formats.
Archive and transfer packages Generate processing
and archive transfer packages at any time.
Custom Packages Custom packages of any type for any
reason can be created and included.
Anything you want. Formats On Demand is your
package customization point.
Business and Future Ready
IGP:Formats on Demand (FOD) is built for change. It
works with the IGP:Long Running Process Engine to
ensure it it maintained up todate with all format and
package requirements.
This approach allows unprecedented processing options
and agility which reflects directly in your business. (For
Example: The IGP:Digital Publisher ePub3 packaging
option was available just one week after the
announcement of the specification release.)
FOD is built for flexibility and customization, template by
template. If you need any special output packaging it is
straight-forward and low-cost to implement your
requirements by Infogrid Pacific or your own team. If you
are transferring from a legacy XML program FOD can
even be programmed to cross-walk FX to your archive
format.
IGP:DIGITAL PUBLISHER
IGP:Document Designer
* FX. IGP:FoundationXHTML.
You want the ability to style your docu-
ments quickly, accurately and
interactively. IGP:Document Designer is
the designer tool that gives you the
power and control over the styling of
any document.
IGP:Document Designer is an interactive design
tool. You see your book pages exactly as they
will be in the final copy and of any document in
a visual User Interface. No CSS or XML to look at.
Just interactively style everything using the
power of FX* and CSS.
IGP:Digital Publisher is a semi-template ap-
proach to XHTML production. You can use
default template styles, or interactively change
styles for a few small items, through to a com-
plete redesign of the entire document.
Your final output PDF and ebook formats exact-
ly reflect your house styles and standards.
Integrated with Templates
While IGP:Writer controls the content and tagging,
IGP:Document Designer works with those FX tags to
create elegant and individual publishing manifestations.
Your styling and layout changes configured in IGP:Digital
Publisher are instantly reflected in IGP:Reader in print
and ebook preview modes. No delays no loops.
All that is left is to use Formats On Demand to create
your final deliverable formats and packages.
The Tools in IGP:Document Designer
IGP:Digital Publisher has all the familiar setup and layout
tools you would expect, except the interface is CSS-3.
That means Page layout, running Headers and Footers,
Section title blocks, text blocks, lists, paragraphs and
inline styles are immediately and easily adjusted against
the stable FX tagged content.
All the adjustment options use a familiar publishing
terminology so you can instantly understand the
purpose and effect of all design changes.
IGP:DIGITAL PUBLISHER
IGP:Media Manager
IGP:Media Manager is a powerful tool
that makes images and rich media easy
to use in all formats. Media Manager
processes and optimizes images for
print and ebook use on upload so you
dont have to. That includes audio and
video for ebook packages.
Getting Media Under Control
Images, audio and video are all part of modern digital
content but the requirements for different formats and
platforms vary widely.
All of the media used in a book is stored in one place for
use only in that book. The organization tags mean you
can go directly to any type of media at any time.
It has the tools to make the challenges of handling
multiple format images and rich media easy.
How IGP:Media Manager works
When you upload an image it is automatically processed
from the print resolution image into the right size and
format for e-book delivery. The Setting option allow you
to pre-set the ebook media processing settings by media
type.
You can insert content into your book as full galley
images, as figurres with numbering, with captions and
source statements, as inline-images and symbols, plates
and more.
For your rich media products with audio and video the
predefined FX tagging patterns let you present media
the way you want them presented. That means as an
icon, any clickable image and as a plain HTML media
interface.
IGP:DIGITAL PUBLISHER
IGP:Font Manager
* FX. IGP:FoundationXHTML.
IGP:Font Manager is the world's first
and only CSS-3 Font Manager. It makes
applying the advanced features of
CSS-3 fonts to your content as easy as
it should be.
CSS-3 unleashes the hidden power of fonts.
IGP:Font Manager unleashes the power of CSS-3
on digital content. That means instantly using
and applying font-families and font-features.
Things that are challenging even in desktop
publishing applications.
Fonts are important. Now they are important for
both print, ebook formats and all digital content
production work as new ebook design para-
digms and reader capabilities emerge.
Font Schemes working with FX* multiply the
power of CSS-3 with publisher content. It's a
new way of working, a new way of thinking, a
new way of designing with fonts.
IGP:Font Manager introduces new freedom,
power and productivity when working with
fonts.
Font Schemes
Font Schemes are a radical rethink of fonts with semantic XHTML
elements. IGP:Font Manager has a powerful Font-Scheme system
that allows you to map font-families with any level of granularity. It
lets you use CSS-3 weight, style and stretch features.
Font Schemes are created in IGP:Font Manager and published to the
book template. You can instantly change Schemes or modify
Schemes.
IGP:Digital Publisher makes it easy to work with OTF and TTF
font-features. The fully featured glyph viewer lets you see all the
feature options available in any font and apply them instantly.
Font features
If your OTF fonts support
extended font features they
can be easily included into
your design.
Font Manager has a Font
Feature Viewer that lets you
visually explore the full
character and glyph support
in any font-face.
Instantly view any Unicode
character set and characters
supported by the font you
have choosen. You can even
retrieve any characters
unicode value if you want.

orphans plus paragraph turns, line turns and ladders.
From the report you can navigate directly to a page or
paragraph and make the required changes. It's instant
and easy and the productivity benefits delivered are
significant.
Multiple Editions
TIB allows the typesetting of multiple editions from a
single master IGP:FoundationXHTML source. That means
your hard-cover, paperback, large-print, mass market
and any other editions all come from the same master
content, even with radically different page sizes and
design. No file copies to manage.
The typographic settings for each edition are maintained
separately by TIB so each book retains it's perfect

terms, Edit and Insert terms, Invert and Insert terms,
Insert sub-terms, Insert References and range references.

and link to any index reference.
What are eIndexes?
eIndexer references are ID references to locations in the
main galley text. There are no numbers in the FX*. The
numbers for print PDFs are created at format generation
time only. Every index link remains interactive at all
times while in the eIndexer tool or in any generated
format.

IGP:DIGITAL PUBLISHER
IGP:FoundationXHTML (FX)
XML consultants will tell you that you
need a custom XML strategy. You don't!
In 2013 every publisher needs an
XHTML strategy as the heart of their
digital content business.
Nothing else makes sense.
IGP:FoundationXHTML (FX) is a designed and
controlled selector grammar that delivers the
most comprehensive digital content strategy for
all publishers. It is more comprehensive than
any XML schema in existence and significantly
reduces production costs over standard XML tag
soup approaches.
This consistency, quality and reliability of the FX
XHTML source means content can be instantly
delivered in all the formats you want. FX also
means your content is poised and ready for the
future and advanced business operations. While
your FX is in IGP:Digital Publisher it can be trust-
ed foreever.
The dimensions of digital content
FX directly addresses the seven dimensions of digital
content using XHTML5.
Structure. In FX structure is king. This is the core
value which defines the content stack and
conditional grouping. The core structure elements
are XHTML/5 without reinvention or extension.
Semantics. Semantic names are used if the value is
explicit and associated with a structural element.
Semantics are structure qualifiers to avoid digital
content "death by semantics".
Styling. Styling is the layout and decoration of
content with CSS to increase understanding, user
engagement, custom look or branding.
Presentation. This is the "format" context from which
a content presentation instance will be delivered. Eg:
PDF, e-books, web-site, other formats, etc..
Behaviour. Modern digital content needs to exhibit
different behaviour in different contexts. This
includes CSS modifiers such as transforms and
Javascript assisted interactivity.
Processing. Digital content of worth requires
processing for many purposes. Defined machine
processing instructions are consistent to reduce
processing costs to a minimum.
Metadata. Correct metadata is required for all
formats and to allow content to be processed and
delivered with intelligence.
A new digital content world
The advanced productivity, agility and flexiblity
features of IGP:Digital Publisher is built on the
rock-solid stability of IGP:FoundationXHTML.
Digital content is infinitely complex and tools and
processes must directly address this up-front. FX
is instantly customizable and extensible to allow
all content to be tagged correctly and without
compromise.
FX replaces schemas, DTDs and validation with
well formed tagging patterns. IGP:Digital
Publisher uses only IGP:FoundationXHTML. There
are no other XML schemas used (although the
content can be imported from and to XML
schemas).
FX is so complete it can be cross-walked to any
XML DTD or schema, and has been.
Clumsy XML strategies such as DocBook or TEI
are easily converted to business ready FX. And FX
can be easily converted back to legacy XML files if
required.

IGP:Digital Publisher Product Overview

  • 1. THE COMPLETE DIGITAL PUBLISHING PRODUCTION SOLUTION DIGITALPUBLISHER IGP DIGITAL PUBLISHER DIGITIZE ONCE USE FOREVER
  • 2. It's a Digital Content World Books have been produced with digital tools for decades, mostly with WYSIWIG DTP-desktop publishing applications. That is not digital content publishing! DTP applications create proprietary files which have little to no future value. For the files to survive and be useful in the future they have to be converted across software versions. Usually old file versions cannot be reused. Desktop applications are being upgraded to export ebook formats such as ePub; but format production is only a part of a real digital content strategy. The file problem and inflexibility remains. Print publishing is about creating a book, perhaps with a hardcover and paperback edition, and then just reprinting for the sales life of the book. Digital content publishing is doing that; plus making the content available in ebook formats; plus making sure the content is available for new products or formats at any time; plus being ready for any new demands from the digital reader market; plus giving publishers the ability to innovate with new products, services and innovations. We are at the start of a new digital content era. HTML5, CSS-3 and Javascript rule the digital content space. WYSIWIG in a single proprietary format just doesn't deliver. Digital content publishing should be a lot more than just getting some sort of ebook formats out today. Now is the time for publishers to make the workflow changes to make sure your content can deliver current business requirements and new value into the foreseeable future. You content must be: • Secure • Trustworthy • Available • Ready to work • Extensible • Reusable The good news! The solution is available to make sure every publisher is ready to meet the challenges of the future. IGP:Digital Publisher gives publishers an immediate, complete and solid foundation for a complete and future-proofed digital content business strategy. It starts with the content.. ...and how that content... ...is prepared and maintained. Read on ► IGP:DIGITAL PUBLISHER

Authors and editors can work right into the interface with all the tools for proof updates and with the assurance that infinite undo is backing them up. The major tool groups Editorial Tools are used to edit and change the content: Tagging Tools applying structural and semantic value to the content: Section Tools - create and manage the document structure: Design Tools - set and change the layout and look and feel: and Linking Tools - for interactive subject linking and Indexing. • 20. IGP:FoundationXHTML (FX) XML consultants will tell you that you need a custom XML strategy. You don't! In 2013 every publisher needs an XHTML strategy as the heart of their digital content business. Nothing else makes sense. IGP:FoundationXHTML (FX) is a designed and controlled selector grammar that delivers the most comprehensive digital content strategy for all publishers. It is more comprehensive than any XML schema in existence and significantly reduces production costs over standard XML tag soup approaches. This consistency, quality and reliability of the FX XHTML source means content can be instantly delivered in all the formats you want. FX also means your content is poised and ready for the future and advanced business operations. While your FX is in IGP:Digital Publisher it can be trust- ed foreever. The dimensions of digital content FX directly addresses the seven dimensions of digital content using XHTML5. Structure. In FX structure is king. This is the core value which defines the content stack and conditional grouping. The core structure elements are XHTML/5 without reinvention or extension. Semantics. Semantic names are used if the value is explicit and associated with a structural element. Semantics are structure qualifiers to avoid digital content "death by semantics". Styling. Styling is the layout and decoration of content with CSS to increase understanding, user engagement, custom look or branding. Presentation. This is the "format" context from which a content presentation instance will be delivered. Eg: PDF, e-books, web-site, other formats, etc.. Behaviour. Modern digital content needs to exhibit different behaviour in different contexts. This includes CSS modifiers such as transforms and Javascript assisted interactivity. Processing. Digital content of worth requires processing for many purposes. Defined machine processing instructions are consistent to reduce processing costs to a minimum. Metadata. Correct metadata is required for all formats and to allow content to be processed and delivered with intelligence. A new digital content world The advanced productivity, agility and flexiblity features of IGP:Digital Publisher is built on the rock-solid stability of IGP:FoundationXHTML. Digital content is infinitely complex and tools and processes must directly address this up-front. FX is instantly customizable and extensible to allow all content to be tagged correctly and without compromise. FX replaces schemas, DTDs and validation with well formed tagging patterns. IGP:Digital Publisher uses only IGP:FoundationXHTML. There are no other XML schemas used (although the content can be imported from and to XML schemas). FX is so complete it can be cross-walked to any XML DTD or schema, and has been. Clumsy XML strategies such as DocBook or TEI are easily converted to business ready FX. And FX can be easily converted back to legacy XML files if required. LEARN MORE ABOUT IGP:FOUNDATION-XHTML IGP:DIGITAL PUBLISHER
