SEMINAR WORKSHOP ON ACTION ON BODY CONFIDENCE
July 5-7,2019
NARRATIVER REPORT
A body-confident young woman feels free to be herself, to follow her dreams, fulfil her potential and make a
difference in the world. The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and Dove and the Girl Scout of the
Philippines believe that no girl or young woman should be held back by worries about the way she looks. And with this
beliefs Northern Samar Girl Scout Council conducted a three-day live-in Seminar Workshop on Action on Body
Confidence at Makiwalo Elementary School, Mondragon Northern Samar.
The first day was on July 05, 2019, Friday. Upon arrival of the participants they have to register and
settle down in each assigned quarter. By 10:30 in the morning, the Orientation and Opening Ceremony which
started with the entrance of colors, rededication to the girl scout promise and law, then a reflection song
“Confidence”, after which is the welcome message from Mrs. Ruth B. Capaz, the Principal of the host school,
Mrs. Joy L. Giray, the Chief Trainer presented the participants and the training team ended with the
Community song “Breakaway”. The host of the ceremony are Sr. Gs. Clena D. Ong and Sr. Gs. Yna D. Unay.
Right after the Ceremony the Seminar workshop started with the overview of the brand Dove, and the
Introduction to Action on Body Confidence.
It was stated that Dove Global Survey (2010) found that 6 out of 10 girls stop doing something they love or that
will benefit them because they feel bad about the way they look. And World Association study (2013) of women and
girls from 70 countries found that 45% of respondents think girls are held back from taking on leadership positions
because of low body confidence. Action on Body Confidence is a 5-session programme for children and young people
aged 7-10 and 11-25. WAGGGS and the Dove Self Esteem Project have been in global partnership since 2013, bringing
the Free Being Me body confidence activities to over 3.5 million girls and boys by the end of 2016. There is much more
to do! You should complete each challenge to gain your Action on Body Confidence badge. As a guide, we have
suggested the number of sessions you will need per challenge, however you are encouraged to do the programme at
your own pace. It is divided into Four Challenges: Challenge 1: See the change, Challenge 2: Plan the change, Challenge
3: Make the change, Challenge 4: Share the change.
In the afternoon the group was divided according to age, being in the adult group we have stayed with
the senior scout. An advocacy of the different organization was introduced by Tita Joannie T. Gasid, she noted
that if you have the Advocacy of Dove and Waggs you can influence others and raised awareness. Challenge
1: See the Change was discussed. Different activities were given to the participants including making its own
patrol and the officers. In the evening in their active wear, was cold movie for everyone titled “Hidden
Figures”.
3. Day 2-Saturday, July 06,2019, started with a reflection on the first day. This day the participants
defined a perfect looking girl thru an Image Talk Show. Challenge 2: Plan the Change was introduced on this
day. Every patrol crafted an Action Plan about Body Confidence, it was further discussed and explained by
Mrs. Imelda T. Tipay. In the afternoon, Challenge 3: Make the Change and Challenge 4: Share the Change
was tackled by Dr. Emily Adrayan. She encourages that body confidence is how a person feels about the way
they look. When we have body confidence we accept, and are happy with, how we look and what our bodies
can do. Someone with high self-esteem believes in themselves, and in their worth as a person, a feeling of
self-respect and this we must share to everyone. To kill the boredom, everyone enjoyed playing the crocodile.
At night, everyone went to bed early because of no power.
Closing Ceremony happened at 10:00 AM, July 07, 2019 after the Sunday Mass at Makiwala Parish Church. It
started with the Rededication of the Girl Scout Promise and Law, followed by a reflection, then different Impressions
from the selected Adult Leaders and Girls. The ramp of the different participants was the highlight of the event with
their POWER WALK. And the much-awaited event of every participants the awarding of certificate of appearance,
certificates of recognition and free Being Me Badge were given by Mrs. Joy L. Giray, the Chief Trainer and she was
assisted by the Training Team and the Facilitators. The ceremony ended with the singing of the community song “Just
The Way You Are”, the Ladies of the Ceremony are the Senior Girl Scout Natalie Lyn R. Roa and Cadet Girl Scout
Clena D. Ong.
The Seminar Workshop on Action on Body Confidence wasrealized through the efforts of all the Trainers
and Staffs in GSP. With the cooperation and teamwork of the teachers and facilitators; the three-day live-in workshop
was an experience worth remembering and sharing. We are proud to say that we are a Girl Scouts confidently beautiful
