How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay
Hi I'm Paige and if you had told me last year I'd be in Office Administration I would've said, "no
way, not even close". That's one of those jobs requiring you to be cool calm and collected. The
atmospheres are peaceful and then people work constantly. It's the opposite of my desired
profession and personality. I'm the opposite of my career, or well it was until I met my instructor,
Miss Young. She changed my mind about how I perceived the trade and what I could do with the
skills once I completed. Was very instrumental in helping me obtain the necessary skills to make
the most money in the field of Office work. I managed to get my typing up to the speed of over 60
words per minute. I learned all the processes of Windows Operating Systems, I even got a glimpse
of Windows 10. Using...show more content...
I loved learning. Data entry was a breeze for me as was all the other work in Office Administration
because you just get projects and assignments, follow the directions was simple, and get it done.
Again, Ms. Young did her job well. Whether in a large office space separated by cubicles, or a
nice private office, I'm certain that I can raise to the occasion and do well for myself. Passing the
certification will be easy. I was excited that completing my trade only took me4 months. The next
decision was to decide what I was going to pursue with my completion and certification. I have
options depending upon the level I'm seeking to achieve, there are quite a few. The amount of
words you type and keyboarding skills make a difference. I can type 50wpm. Office positions are
wide open all over the country, depending upon your skill level, they're not isolated to a high–rise
building filled with windows in a 4,000 square foot space of cubicles. Very large companies such as
Ashley Furniture, Office Depot, Walmart, and Luxury Car Dealerships like Mercedes and Lexus

Personal Narrative
I've never had to write a personal narrative before. Nor do I like to. Personally, I've always just
tried to forget a lot that goes on around me. I hate diary entries and journaling. The closest I've
come to any of it is writing poems. They were never any good though. Mostly talking about
teenage angst or what I think the color green would taste like. But some of them were like stories.
Stories about my friends, and about dreams. One time, I wrote a poem for a friend of mine who
didn't like the taste of cinnamon. It had fourteen verses and rhymed on every other line. It talked
about how it smelled, and the color. How it was so important for baking and why it was amazing. I
ended up convincing them to start liking cinnamon. Another

I was raised by a single mother, but my home was filled with family. My mother, sister, and I shared
a room with two twin–size beds. My aunts, uncles, five cousins, and grandparents shared the two
remaining bedrooms. In total, there were thirteen people sharing a three–bedroom, one–bathroom
home. For the children, the nonstop playtime and carefree memories mitigated the obstacles that
came with our socioeconomic insufficiency. For me, our tight–knit family and living situation made it
much easier to overcome the absence of my father.
My father represented many of the negative stereotypes that Mexican Americans and Mexican
immigrants have to combat. He immigrated to the United States as a young adult and fell into a life
of criminal activity during our city's booming methamphetamine trade. His choices had an adverse
impact on not only my family, but also our community at large. I was somewhat sheltered from
learning too much about my...show more content...
Rejecting the criminal element in our community required a deliberate choice to exclude myself
from the majority and often made me feel left out. Many of my peers criticized me and called me
stuck up or "white washed" because of the choices I made. My family fully supported my goals,
but their own education levels and unfamiliarity with the college admission process restricted the
amount of guidance they were able to provide. Counselors at my high school were overloaded by
high dropout rates and unable to focus on college bound students. It was the small acts of support
and encouragement that ultimately got me to overcome my inhibitions and fears of the unknown
and pursue a bachelor's degree: a friend who told me what the SAT was, a teacher who explained the
FAFSA and college deadlines. These processes seem basic to some, but can be overwhelming to a
first–generation student to the point where it becomes easier to put it off or quit

Personal Narrative: My Skills As A Writer
Throughout the course of my time here in Olympia, my skills as a writer have blossomed and
developed exponentially. From what I've seen and gone through this past year I've got quite a lot
of inspiration and plenty of drive to keep me creative and functioning as an aspiring author. One
thing that's pushed me to dig deeper into my mind for a stronger story has been this blog. The
prompts given to us have really made me reflect on myself, which I admittedly don't do that often.
This final entry should wrap up what this blog has done for me this semester, and show you what
changes I've made as a growing author.
It seemed only fitting that my first post on this blog would be about my time in the Aubrey High
School Mighty Marching Band. Writing about that really gave me some time to think about my
experience again, which brought back some memories that I really enjoyed reliving and...show more

From writing little stories in notebooks to attempting full length novels, writing has always been
a huge passion of mine. As I think back on some of the pieces I've written in early 2016 and late
2015 I noticed a huge dip. During the point of me moving and leaving behind a life I had known,
my inspiration seemed to have dissolved into almost nothing. I always knew that the way I wrote
directly paralleled whatever I was feeling at the time, and the lack of work I had done definitely
showed how much I felt I had lost. This blog hasn't just been an assignment, it's been a journey to
recovery.
In closing, my adventure through this freshman year has been absolutely insane. I've come back
from feeling like I had been stripped of inspiration, to feeling new again. Through writing this blog
and other stories from my days in Washington, I've become abetter author than I could ever dream
to be. I'm grateful that I could share this journey here, and I hope that maybe my words have caused
you to think in a broader way. This is Literary

How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay
The day I separated from my mother to live with my father in the United States marked the
beginning of a downward spiral in my life, or so I thought. Coming from Vietnam at the age of
seven, I experienced a cultural shock. For starters, I did not speak English, which made
interacting with other children my age a difficult task. But to my advantage, speaking and
knowing Vietnamese is an asset I have come to eventually appreciate. However, life at home and
my relationship with my father or lack of one was hard for me to understand at such a young age
as I was only reunited with him a week before I left Vietnam. I began to shield myself from this
foreign world around me and found solace in our backyard swimming pool. I thought of my
mother constantly. I always knew she was sick, but I never realized of what extent her illness had
consumed her health. The day that I woke up to my father's forlorn face is the day that took away

He was a Vietnam War veteran. His wrinkles and numerous scars told me stories that reminded me
of my grandfather who fought against, and jailed by, the North Vietnamese. I worked with
George for a year, and he became more than just a patient. He was a role model, a mentor. I
distinctly remember the times he would ask for food and a blanket while recounting memories of
his younger days as he held my hand. He was known for his carefree and jolly character, often
saying, "why don't you shoot me already?" when upset. One day, I noticed George becoming
weaker, and his charisma fading. His stories became mutters and then, silence. His wheelchair sat
by the window, as George laid in his bed majority of the day. I wanted to do more for him, but I
was only a nursing assistant. One Sunday night, the start of my finals' week, I walked into George's
room and told him that I would see him the following week. He nodded, and waved, without saying
a word. Unknowingly, this would be our final

Personal Narrative Writing
Narrative writing retells an experience that has been life changing in some way. That means that the
subject can be a moment in which you learned something about yourself, about life, or had
something frightening happen to you that has changed your point of view. In the sample essays
provided, I read about experiences with racism, police brutality, and domestic violence.
In Rebecca Goldsmith's essay, "Where Does It End?" she describes a personal experience in which
she notices her grandmother's racial bias. I related to her writing because I have noticed members of
my family making racist remarks. When I visit my grandfather for holidays, he will ask me about
how I am doing and if I am in a relationship. When I reply, "Yes, Grandpa. I have

Sitting at my desk, working on a spreadsheet was the first time I realized that I was not where I was
meant to be. I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing with my life. Growing up in Cleveland,
in a single–parent household, there was never really expectations for me other than to graduate from
high school. I was the first in the family to graduate from college. I thought I had everything figured
out. I finished with a B.A. in Finance, and was able to secure a great job as an insurance recruiter
right out of college. I was able to travel the country, and met many interesting people. I can
remember a conversation with a woman in Utah who asked me what my passion was. At the time,
money was really the only passion that came to mind. I did not realize it at the time, but I had no

Looking into her eyes you could see her strength. She was a very strong person, always cheerful,
always independent. She was always there for us, so naturally when she got sick we were there
for her. She was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer, which she fought for nearly two years.
She had good days and bad, but she never let the cancer destroy her spirit. I can remember the end
vividly, my wife was pregnant with our second child, and she was due in less than a month. It was
a Monday morning; she had an appointment with the oncologist. Her only question for him was
"can you get me another month?" His response "there is nothing else we can do". That Friday, at

Personal Narrative: My Writing
The best writing I've ever produced is from last semester I wrote a paper for Sociology on how
the movie "Selma" related to what we were learning in class. This is the best writing I've produced
because I thought long and hard about what I was going to write and ended up making a 100 on the
paper which I was very excited about. Another reason is that I'm not particularly exceptional at
writing I struggle with what words to use and how to really make my writing mean something to
the person reading it, and my teacher left me a comment saying how I had thought outside the box
and done very well. When I'm writing, my only fear is that I could be using better words so that's
why after I write a paper I always like to continuously edit it until I'm satisfied. Challenges for me
are thinking of what to write I guess you could say that I get writers block and I must take breaks
and really think about what I want my paper to convey, but once I get an idea usually I'm and can
come up with more ideas it's just really that first few sentences in a paragraph that get me....show

discover myself and who I want to be. I'd say that my process could improve, there's always someone
can improve or makes themselves better. For right now I think my process works, I think it works
because I've never received a bad grade on something I written. Sure, my drafts have always had lots
of red marks but doesn't everyone's? Like I said you can always improve and that's what I'd really

While I nervously explained why I was passing fliers in their neighborhood, I noticed straightaway
the five young men's Spanish worded tattoos running across their faces, chests, and arms. All signs
unexpectedly indicated that I was not only standing in the company of members from the MS–13
gang notorious for committing some of the most ruthless crimes in North and Central America, but
also conversing with them about soccer and life. As my attempt of establishing rapport continued, it

For close to six months I had the privilege of shadowing Dr. Chu at a family medicine clinic where
the majority of her patients were Hispanic. During that time, she became a mentor, as well as an
exceptional role model of someone who showed genuine compassion to individuals not being able
to afford health care treatments regularly. Beyond extending payment due dates and exuding
concern and affection for patients' families, she showed a level of commitment regarding cultural
competence that resonates with me to this day. With her warm personality and fluency of the
Spanish language I would repeatedly see noticeably reserved and apprehensive first time
Hispanic patients become shocked and relieved to hear their doctor speak in their native tongue.
By simply learning to speak their language I witnessed how a doctor can use medicine and
cultural competence to help others in a more personalized way and further develop a greater level
of trust. It is this same level of commitment and personalized care that I strive to use day in and day
out while currently working as a EMT. Whether by smiling, bandaging, and telling a young person
suffering from a sports–related head laceration injury that everything will be alright or simply
transporting an elderly patient and holding their hand after a fall, I am certain that my efforts as a
EMT are teaching me something new each day regarding

In 2012, my family moved to Boston from Los Angeles. I was nine years old, and the idea of
"new" was scary to me because I had gone to the same school, with the same people, in the same
setting for my whole life. Despite the welcoming feeling from Park, I wasn't as happy as I could
have been. As school and life went on I did not feel motivated to meet new people, play new
sports, or learn new things. Luckily, this fixed mindset transformed. After about a month of
school, my Dad started telling my brothers and me to "seize the day," every morning. This saying
planted the belief to make the most of your day every day. By saying it each morning, my Dad
made sure it was always with us and we would never let it go. As my Dad continued to tell us to
"seize the day," I found that I was happier as I was more aware of the amazing yet different aspects

I jump from sports, to school, to my life at home and with friends very quickly, however, through

During a practice, I push myself to run full speed during sprints; I know it is not a game, however,
in the long run, it will make me a better player. When writing an essay, why not take those extra 15

My struggle point began during my freshman year of high school in my Spanish II class. Even

At the start of my life, I lived among my mother, father, and my older sister in Oklahoma. Shortly
after I was born, my father got the opportunity to move to Texas to further his work. We moved
when I was only four and began a new life in a small apartment just off of I–45. I attended a
Christian elementary school, which made us wear fitted uniforms, and made my first few friends. I

school were two very important things in my life, but they weren't the only things that shaped me.
My mother's strength also impacted the way I thought of myself. Sure, she had a lot of hard times,
yet in the end she still came out on top. My mother payed off the house, bought us groceries,

From a very young age, I learned that one word held much more weight in my family than others:
"money." My family's priorities revolved around bills and expenses, and the money that we were
seemingly always lacking to pay them. My mother, who was diagnosed with severe obsessive
compulsive disorder before my birth, was unable to work, leaving my father to support our family
with his insufficient truck–driving wage. The stress caused by these financial issues, in addition to
my mother's mental condition and my father's alcoholism, led to constant fighting in our household
that ultimately caused my parents to separate the year before I began kindergarten. My brother and I
stayed with my mother despite her condition.
When I reached elementary school, my mother never cared very much about my attendance. In the
negligent fashion that I became accustomed to, poor grades or failure to turn in assignments also
held no consequences for me. Despite my bad attendance and the lack of parental authority in my

three years to come. The counselors had asked us what we wanted to do as a career, after high
school. I was pondering about what I wanted to study in the future, and all of the sudden, this
inspiring conversation that I had with the Registered Nurse motivated me to become a Medical
Assistant. Since then, I had my mind set on becoming a part of the medical field. So signed up for
West–Mec to take classes as a Medical Assistant, while still attending high school. By the beginning
of my junior year at Independence, I started my first session of West–Mec. I learned so many
amazing things that I never thought I would. For instance, taking vitals, injections, and blood
typing, which is one of my favorite things to do. I have completed my first year as a medical
Assistant, and now I have just began my last

Writing A Personal Narrative Essay

  • 1. How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay Hi I'm Paige and if you had told me last year I'd be in Office Administration I would've said, "no way, not even close". That's one of those jobs requiring you to be cool calm and collected. The atmospheres are peaceful and then people work constantly. It's the opposite of my desired profession and personality. I'm the opposite of my career, or well it was until I met my instructor, Miss Young. She changed my mind about how I perceived the trade and what I could do with the skills once I completed. Was very instrumental in helping me obtain the necessary skills to make the most money in the field of Office work. I managed to get my typing up to the speed of over 60 words per minute. I learned all the processes of Windows Operating Systems, I even got a glimpse of Windows 10. Using...show more content... I loved learning. Data entry was a breeze for me as was all the other work in Office Administration because you just get projects and assignments, follow the directions was simple, and get it done. Again, Ms. Young did her job well. Whether in a large office space separated by cubicles, or a nice private office, I'm certain that I can raise to the occasion and do well for myself. Passing the certification will be easy. I was excited that completing my trade only took me4 months. The next decision was to decide what I was going to pursue with my completion and certification. I have options depending upon the level I'm seeking to achieve, there are quite a few. The amount of words you type and keyboarding skills make a difference. I can type 50wpm. Office positions are wide open all over the country, depending upon your skill level, they're not isolated to a high–rise building filled with windows in a 4,000 square foot space of cubicles. Very large companies such as Ashley Furniture, Office Depot, Walmart, and Luxury Car Dealerships like Mercedes and Lexus have teams of Administrative staff. They are the backbone of a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Personal Narrative I've never had to write a personal narrative before. Nor do I like to. Personally, I've always just tried to forget a lot that goes on around me. I hate diary entries and journaling. The closest I've come to any of it is writing poems. They were never any good though. Mostly talking about teenage angst or what I think the color green would taste like. But some of them were like stories. Stories about my friends, and about dreams. One time, I wrote a poem for a friend of mine who didn't like the taste of cinnamon. It had fourteen verses and rhymed on every other line. It talked about how it smelled, and the color. How it was so important for baking and why it was amazing. I ended up convincing them to start liking cinnamon. Another Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay I was raised by a single mother, but my home was filled with family. My mother, sister, and I shared a room with two twin–size beds. My aunts, uncles, five cousins, and grandparents shared the two remaining bedrooms. In total, there were thirteen people sharing a three–bedroom, one–bathroom home. For the children, the nonstop playtime and carefree memories mitigated the obstacles that came with our socioeconomic insufficiency. For me, our tight–knit family and living situation made it much easier to overcome the absence of my father. My father represented many of the negative stereotypes that Mexican Americans and Mexican immigrants have to combat. He immigrated to the United States as a young adult and fell into a life of criminal activity during our city's booming methamphetamine trade. His choices had an adverse impact on not only my family, but also our community at large. I was somewhat sheltered from learning too much about my...show more content... Rejecting the criminal element in our community required a deliberate choice to exclude myself from the majority and often made me feel left out. Many of my peers criticized me and called me stuck up or "white washed" because of the choices I made. My family fully supported my goals, but their own education levels and unfamiliarity with the college admission process restricted the amount of guidance they were able to provide. Counselors at my high school were overloaded by high dropout rates and unable to focus on college bound students. It was the small acts of support and encouragement that ultimately got me to overcome my inhibitions and fears of the unknown and pursue a bachelor's degree: a friend who told me what the SAT was, a teacher who explained the FAFSA and college deadlines. These processes seem basic to some, but can be overwhelming to a first–generation student to the point where it becomes easier to put it off or quit Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Personal Narrative: My Skills As A Writer Throughout the course of my time here in Olympia, my skills as a writer have blossomed and developed exponentially. From what I've seen and gone through this past year I've got quite a lot of inspiration and plenty of drive to keep me creative and functioning as an aspiring author. One thing that's pushed me to dig deeper into my mind for a stronger story has been this blog. The prompts given to us have really made me reflect on myself, which I admittedly don't do that often. This final entry should wrap up what this blog has done for me this semester, and show you what changes I've made as a growing author. It seemed only fitting that my first post on this blog would be about my time in the Aubrey High School Mighty Marching Band. Writing about that really gave me some time to think about my experience again, which brought back some memories that I really enjoyed reliving and...show more content... From writing little stories in notebooks to attempting full length novels, writing has always been a huge passion of mine. As I think back on some of the pieces I've written in early 2016 and late 2015 I noticed a huge dip. During the point of me moving and leaving behind a life I had known, my inspiration seemed to have dissolved into almost nothing. I always knew that the way I wrote directly paralleled whatever I was feeling at the time, and the lack of work I had done definitely showed how much I felt I had lost. This blog hasn't just been an assignment, it's been a journey to recovery. In closing, my adventure through this freshman year has been absolutely insane. I've come back from feeling like I had been stripped of inspiration, to feeling new again. Through writing this blog and other stories from my days in Washington, I've become abetter author than I could ever dream to be. I'm grateful that I could share this journey here, and I hope that maybe my words have caused you to think in a broader way. This is Literary Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay The day I separated from my mother to live with my father in the United States marked the beginning of a downward spiral in my life, or so I thought. Coming from Vietnam at the age of seven, I experienced a cultural shock. For starters, I did not speak English, which made interacting with other children my age a difficult task. But to my advantage, speaking and knowing Vietnamese is an asset I have come to eventually appreciate. However, life at home and my relationship with my father or lack of one was hard for me to understand at such a young age as I was only reunited with him a week before I left Vietnam. I began to shield myself from this foreign world around me and found solace in our backyard swimming pool. I thought of my mother constantly. I always knew she was sick, but I never realized of what extent her illness had consumed her health. The day that I woke up to my father's forlorn face is the day that took away all hope...show more content... He was a Vietnam War veteran. His wrinkles and numerous scars told me stories that reminded me of my grandfather who fought against, and jailed by, the North Vietnamese. I worked with George for a year, and he became more than just a patient. He was a role model, a mentor. I distinctly remember the times he would ask for food and a blanket while recounting memories of his younger days as he held my hand. He was known for his carefree and jolly character, often saying, "why don't you shoot me already?" when upset. One day, I noticed George becoming weaker, and his charisma fading. His stories became mutters and then, silence. His wheelchair sat by the window, as George laid in his bed majority of the day. I wanted to do more for him, but I was only a nursing assistant. One Sunday night, the start of my finals' week, I walked into George's room and told him that I would see him the following week. He nodded, and waved, without saying a word. Unknowingly, this would be our final Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Personal Narrative Writing Narrative writing retells an experience that has been life changing in some way. That means that the subject can be a moment in which you learned something about yourself, about life, or had something frightening happen to you that has changed your point of view. In the sample essays provided, I read about experiences with racism, police brutality, and domestic violence. In Rebecca Goldsmith's essay, "Where Does It End?" she describes a personal experience in which she notices her grandmother's racial bias. I related to her writing because I have noticed members of my family making racist remarks. When I visit my grandfather for holidays, he will ask me about how I am doing and if I am in a relationship. When I reply, "Yes, Grandpa. I have Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay Sitting at my desk, working on a spreadsheet was the first time I realized that I was not where I was meant to be. I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing with my life. Growing up in Cleveland, in a single–parent household, there was never really expectations for me other than to graduate from high school. I was the first in the family to graduate from college. I thought I had everything figured out. I finished with a B.A. in Finance, and was able to secure a great job as an insurance recruiter right out of college. I was able to travel the country, and met many interesting people. I can remember a conversation with a woman in Utah who asked me what my passion was. At the time, money was really the only passion that came to mind. I did not realize it at the time, but I had no idea what my passion was. I later took an analyst job with the same company, and with the promotion came more...show more content... She was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer, which she fought for nearly two years. She had good days and bad, but she never let the cancer destroy her spirit. I can remember the end vividly, my wife was pregnant with our second child, and she was due in less than a month. It was a Monday morning; she had an appointment with the oncologist. Her only question for him was "can you get me another month?" His response "there is nothing else we can do". • 8. How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay When I was 6 years old I moved to Santa Maria California and that was one of the biggest changes for me. I was born and raised and a small town called San Juan Pinas in Mexico for 5 years. My family comes from a very poor town and I was taught to value every single thing that was given to me. Coming here was something new to me and very different from where I come from. The culture where I come from was very strict and my family expected a lot form me. I had to adjust the culture, the language, and the big city. I entered in first grade in the middle of the school year in 2005. My mother had to go to work every day in order to provide food and shelter for me and my siblings, my sister and little brother. So every day I had to wake up and my grandpa would take me to school. I loved school, ever since I remember I loved learning and that's the reason that kept on trying every day waking with an illusion of learning something new every day. My mother had to work in the fields for about 13–14 years picking strawberries. My parents were separated and my siblings and I stayed with my mother. I realized to value every single day and pushed myself even harder in my education because if not it would all be in vain. My biggest goal for me was to graduate in every school such as in elementary, junior high, and high school. When I entered in junior high I realized that I got very interest in mathematics and in art. My English and Spanish skills became better as I entered in Santa Maria High School. • 9. Personal Narrative: My Writing The best writing I've ever produced is from last semester I wrote a paper for Sociology on how the movie "Selma" related to what we were learning in class. This is the best writing I've produced because I thought long and hard about what I was going to write and ended up making a 100 on the paper which I was very excited about. Another reason is that I'm not particularly exceptional at writing I struggle with what words to use and how to really make my writing mean something to the person reading it, and my teacher left me a comment saying how I had thought outside the box and done very well. When I'm writing, my only fear is that I could be using better words so that's why after I write a paper I always like to continuously edit it until I'm satisfied. Challenges for me are thinking of what to write I guess you could say that I get writers block and I must take breaks and really think about what I want my paper to convey, but once I get an idea usually I'm and can come up with more ideas it's just really that first few sentences in a paragraph that get me....show more content... Ill thinks long and hard about my opening sentence and after I've come up with a good one the words just come into my head and I type them. Then I reread them to make sure that they make sense. Since I'm still in high school I do think that my writing style really has room to grow as I discover myself and who I want to be. I'd say that my process could improve, there's always someone can improve or makes themselves better. For right now I think my process works, I think it works because I've never received a bad grade on something I written. Sure, my drafts have always had lots of red marks but doesn't everyone's? Like I said you can always improve and that's what I'd really like to do in English Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay While I nervously explained why I was passing fliers in their neighborhood, I noticed straightaway the five young men's Spanish worded tattoos running across their faces, chests, and arms. All signs unexpectedly indicated that I was not only standing in the company of members from the MS–13 gang notorious for committing some of the most ruthless crimes in North and Central America, but also conversing with them about soccer and life. As my attempt of establishing rapport continued, it proved difficult not to think of their reputation of recruiting teenagers as young as thirteen years of age, ironically the same teenagers that my church and I were trying to save. Regarding that confrontation, and the similar ones that followed over the seven...show more content... For close to six months I had the privilege of shadowing Dr. Chu at a family medicine clinic where the majority of her patients were Hispanic. During that time, she became a mentor, as well as an exceptional role model of someone who showed genuine compassion to individuals not being able to afford health care treatments regularly. Beyond extending payment due dates and exuding concern and affection for patients' families, she showed a level of commitment regarding cultural competence that resonates with me to this day. With her warm personality and fluency of the Spanish language I would repeatedly see noticeably reserved and apprehensive first time Hispanic patients become shocked and relieved to hear their doctor speak in their native tongue. By simply learning to speak their language I witnessed how a doctor can use medicine and cultural competence to help others in a more personalized way and further develop a greater level of trust. It is this same level of commitment and personalized care that I strive to use day in and day out while currently working as a EMT. Whether by smiling, bandaging, and telling a young person suffering from a sports–related head laceration injury that everything will be alright or simply transporting an elderly patient and holding their hand after a fall, I am certain that my efforts as a EMT are teaching me something new each day regarding Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay In 2012, my family moved to Boston from Los Angeles. I was nine years old, and the idea of "new" was scary to me because I had gone to the same school, with the same people, in the same setting for my whole life. Despite the welcoming feeling from Park, I wasn't as happy as I could have been. As school and life went on I did not feel motivated to meet new people, play new sports, or learn new things. Luckily, this fixed mindset transformed. After about a month of school, my Dad started telling my brothers and me to "seize the day," every morning. This saying planted the belief to make the most of your day every day. By saying it each morning, my Dad made sure it was always with us and we would never let it go. As my Dad continued to tell us to "seize the day," I found that I was happier as I was more aware of the amazing yet different aspects Boston had to give and wasn't preoccupied with the things I missed about Los Angeles....show more content... I jump from sports, to school, to my life at home and with friends very quickly, however, through the hustle and bustle of the day, I try to consistently think to myself, "How can I make the most out of my time?" because I know how lucky I am to have these opportunities. When I am on the field, I try to seize every opportunity to get the ball. Why let someone else get it when you can? During a practice, I push myself to run full speed during sprints; I know it is not a game, however, in the long run, it will make me a better player. When writing an essay, why not take those extra 15 minutes to edit the paper and make it excellent because I know this is what could grant me the A. When I am talking to my grandparents, why not engage, the mentors in one's life are what shape them, and one needs to take the opportunity to learn as much as they can from them because they will not always be Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 16. How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay School was never truly something that was extremely hard for me. I have maintained at a minimum, a 3.0 GPA or higher since 4th grade. I have had a few struggling points in school, but everyone has those moments; no one is perfect, but everyone has that one point in time, whether it is school related or even in everyday life. My struggle point began during my freshman year of high school in my Spanish II class. Even though I had taken Spanish I, it failed to stick in my brain. So I began cheating on my tests, merely to breeze by with no remorse until one dreaded day I took the answers from the wrong person and completely failed my test. At that moment that is when I realized, cheating was not for me and it is the wrong thing to do, so I changed...show more content... I began changing my study habits; I found out that the best way for me to study was to read all my notes and handouts at least three times every day. I even re–annotated all my handouts every time I read it, in case there were some things that I may have missed the first time. As time went on I felt I needed more than just reading my notes so I began joining in study groups with people who were willing to help me with anything that I may have needed. I realized that meditation was needed to so I started going to the library just so I could find peace and quiet and actually be able to think at a better pace. I have learned that there are so many ways to study and research is another way that can be beneficial; therefore I decided to start researching things that related to my topic of study. My parent told me to plan a specific time to study when I am most alert that way I will not get tired quickly and that has helped me throughout my school years, I still have a certain time that I study and do my homework so I do not overwhelm myself. Furthermore, my parents give me tips that helped them study when they were in school. My mom said to always eat healthy and get a good night's sleep; it helps you to stay focused and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay I enjoy plans, making them, sticking to them and most of all making other people adhere to my specification. Among my many faults, I have the inability to as my friends would say, go with the flow of things or live in the moment. Last winter, just after the Christmas holiday, I along with my family meaning my parents and my sisters, took an exceptionally well organized trip put together by yours truly. Denver, it was an extremely enjoyable trip. We went skiing, sledding and tubing. And finally, when it wastime to go back home to Chicago, we took the shuttle to the airport to catch our flight. At least that was the initial plan. My family and I watched as the other passengers boarded the plane while we waited for our flight back to Michigan,...show more content... The sky was white as salt as we drove. Mountains rose in the distance massive, beautiful and stoic. After some time had passed, we had to stop at a gas station where myself and my sister went to use the bathroom, and my dad refilled the car, it was a few minutes after we got back into the car and where back on our way. We did this every few hours or so for the rest of the trip. In the car I remember us listening to Aviciis' wake me up. Whose lyrics about traveling the world without any plans felt oddly apt given the circumstances. We stopped to eat at a nearby Applebee's, when it was time to take or order the waitress asked if we were from out of town, we all looked at each other and laughed thinking about our situation, before giving her a condensed version of our tale. When it came time to pay for our meals, the waitress told us that our bill had already been taken care of. We all look at each other confused, knowing that none of us had payed for it, she then told us that the couple behind us heard our story and took care of our bill and told her to wait till they were gone to tell us. This simple act of generosity was enough to put a spring back in our step on our drive Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay At the start of my life, I lived among my mother, father, and my older sister in Oklahoma. Shortly after I was born, my father got the opportunity to move to Texas to further his work. We moved when I was only four and began a new life in a small apartment just off of I–45. I attended a Christian elementary school, which made us wear fitted uniforms, and made my first few friends. I attended that school for only two years until we later moved again, and the transition into public school was not easy. I was supposed to be graduating kindergarten and entering the first grade, yet my birthday didn't meet the enrollment qualifications. The principals and counselors held me back and made me repeat kindergarten for a full week before giving me a computer test that gave them enough faith to move me forward. I was introduced to the first grade class the second...show more content... The same situation with my birthday occurred up there, yet this time I didn't make any new friends. My father and my mother began to stress and before I knew it, I was moving back to Texas. Since my first grade year I haven't left this state, but I have transferred schools three times. It wasn't until my parents' split that stopped our traveling. My mother, sister, and I decided to stay in the house that we last bought in order to keep some sort of normality in that uneven time. Moving and school were two very important things in my life, but they weren't the only things that shaped me. My mother's strength also impacted the way I thought of myself. Sure, she had a lot of hard times, yet in the end she still came out on top. My mother payed off the house, bought us groceries, allowed me to continue my swimming lessons, and still managed to spend time with my sister and I all while her world seemed to be crumbling down. Nowadays I realize how unrealistic all of that seems, but somehow she still managed to pull it Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay From a very young age, I learned that one word held much more weight in my family than others: "money." My family's priorities revolved around bills and expenses, and the money that we were seemingly always lacking to pay them. My mother, who was diagnosed with severe obsessive compulsive disorder before my birth, was unable to work, leaving my father to support our family with his insufficient truck–driving wage. The stress caused by these financial issues, in addition to my mother's mental condition and my father's alcoholism, led to constant fighting in our household that ultimately caused my parents to separate the year before I began kindergarten. My brother and I stayed with my mother despite her condition. When I reached elementary school, my mother never cared very much about my attendance. In the negligent fashion that I became accustomed to, poor grades or failure to turn in assignments also held no consequences for me. Despite my bad attendance and the lack of parental authority in my early education, it was soon evident that I was academically gifted; I enjoyed learning and my grades had already begun to surpass...show more content... I became more self–motivated than ever, and I was maintaining perfect grades with near perfect attendance by eighth grade. My classmates, though typically kind about it, could never truly understand the depth of my devotion to school. To my knowledge, none of them had grown up in the way I had, where every family decision was based entirely on money, where days were spent dreaming of a better future. As I began to consider college, I worried incessantly about the costs I would face and sometimes wondered if it was even a possibility. To this day, I am extremely thankful to my councilor for informing me that anyone can go to college, despite their circumstances. She explained scholarships, loans, and financial assistance to me, making my goals seem more obtainable than Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay As an only child, my family has always strived for the best. My mother and father being divorced, both, have invariably talked to me about the type of future I should aim for. They have also pushed me to do my absolute best, and have encouraged me to continue school. But I had not given much thought to what I wanted to study for in the future, until one day it hit me. This was the day my grandmother was having hip surgery. So my father and I decided to go to the hospital to visit her. While we were waiting to see her, a nurse came by to talk to us about her recovery. The nurse was dressed in cool scrubs, and I couldn't help but ask a few questions about how she likes her job. She began to tell me how much she loves her career as a Registered...show more content... She also mentioned that working in the medical field, is one of the best jobs anyone can ever have. The nurse also told me, people in the medical field are always needed in any part of the world. Everything she said to me, had to be the most inspiring thing I have ever heard. As years went by, I finally started my first year of high school. I was nervous because everything was so different. One day at school, our student counselors were helping us setup our classes for the next three years to come. The counselors had asked us what we wanted to do as a career, after high school. I was pondering about what I wanted to study in the future, and all of the sudden, this inspiring conversation that I had with the Registered Nurse motivated me to become a Medical Assistant. Since then, I had my mind set on becoming a part of the medical field. So signed up for West–Mec to take classes as a Medical Assistant, while still attending high school. By the beginning of my junior year at Independence, I started my first session of West–Mec. I learned so many amazing things that I never thought I would. For instance, taking vitals, injections, and blood typing, which is one of my favorite things to do. I have completed my first year as a medical Assistant, and now I have just began my last Get more content on HelpWriting.net
