Example Of Literacy Narrative Essay
Literacy Narrative "School made us 'literate' but did not teach us to read for pleasure." –Ambeth R.
Ocampo Growing up with English not being my first language was difficult. My parents knew
how to speak it, but they still didn't know to how to pronounce or define some words. I knew how
to speak English very well, but reading was sometimes hard for me. In order for me to learn, my
brother would read bedtime stories, and I would follow along. From my princess books to me
sitting down with him while he read his Captain Underpants comics. Anywhere I went I would try
to read anything I laid eyes on. From hotel names to road signs to menus to anything that could
help me improve. Already having an older brother who knew how to read very well, I took
advantage of that. My brother would help me pronounce different words, tell me what they meant,
and would applaud me for pronouncing them right. He was the main reason why I loved reading
so much; loved. The clear cut definition of literacy is the ability to read and write, pretty simple.
The more elaborate definition of literacy, though, is being able to read, write, and comprehend
what is being read or written. People apply it to everyday life such as reading a book for school to
reading a menu at a restaurant. Throughout...show more content...
Similar to my freshman year, I read a series of a book that I just couldn't put down. That no matter
what I was doing, I had to keep reading. This was the summer of my freshman year in college. I

The Program, then start onto the next one and the next one. I didn't even realize that I had finished

A narrative essay is a story that is true and has meaning, whether it be to prove a point, send a
message, explain an event that's happened, or entertain the reader. Most narrative essays are
written to convey a story from a past time that sends a message to not only the reader, but the
writer themselves. When planning a narrative essay, the first step is to identify the topic in which
the writer wants to explain. There are multiple ways in which the you can come up with a topic, it
all depends on the style you're most comfortable with. The next step is to write down all the main
events that supports the topic you have chosen. What main events led up to the story you're trying to
approach? What key events made what your topic is all about?...show more content...
This event made a big impact on my life as it showed me the value of work ethic by showing me
that hard work pays off. It also taught me to never give up and follow your heart. And lastly, it
taught me the importance of a team to help me through the tough practices and mental battles. When
choosing my topic, I wrote down 3 main events that were important in my life that impacted me and
shaped myself into the person I am today. The 3 I chose were: breaking the 3200–meter record for
my school, breaking the 4x800 record with my team, and lastly, moving from Poinciana to
Kissimmee and leaving all my friends to take on a new chapter in my life. The topic I chose to
write is one I feel very passionate about and the single memory I can recall the most. Although
breaking the 4x800 record with my team was a memorable moment and the first record I'd ever
broken at my school, nothing compared to the feeling I got when I broke an individual record that
was held by my own coach. I had a sense of relief and happiness, not just for myself, but my coach
as well. It felt as if I didn't just break the record for the sake of me personally, but for him too. May
have taken 21 years to be broken, but I'd say it sure was worth

When I first started college, the first thing I saw as I walked with my parents and all of my
luggage to my new room was an empty lounge. It looked like the kind of place that was supposed
to resemble the living room of a house, but it felt bare and unused. Because of the large wooden
wall, the area felt cut off and separate, so for the first few weeks of college, I spent more time in
my room, alone, rather than out in the lounge where a few people congregated to talk. As the
semester pushed forward, I pushed myself to venture out into the lounge more in order to make
friends on my floor. The closed off feeling of the lounge eventually came to feel like an asset. It
made the area feel like it was closed off enough to have a conversation and

When I was a year old, my parents divorced. My mom was abused by my dad and he didn't let her
go to college therefore, she stayed home and had my three older siblings and I. There was a total
of three girls in high school at once which meant three college tuitions that couldn't be paid for by
my mom but can be paid off if you work hard in school enough to get scholarships.
My sisters were able to go to college and received multiple scholarships. My oldest sister Monique
Pichardo received her Masters in Accounting at Texas A&M in San Antonio and has been
working at the UT Health Science Center for many years. My second oldest sister Deonisia

At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward
reading and writing; more so towards reading. Years ago I used to love reading books for pleasure
but nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very
basic posts on facebook expressing one's opinion on something or articles and threads on reddit
discussing topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it's the severe senioritis that has overcome me as I
enter my last semester at Chapman University. As I've gotten lazier I can see it start to reflect in
my everyday life. Deep down I still love to read but I rarely find myself getting truly invested into
the action unless it relates to something I am very...show more content...
You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I'm not the
same person that I was. I guess you could say it's part of growing up. It never really was
intentional but it's just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing
are very different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don't
personally like to write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write because I believe it is one of the
most important aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and
professionally. To put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to
write and survive in the world around me. I write because I have to, not because I want to.
Hopefully this somewhat makes sense. To better explain let me make a comparison. When I am
assigned a writing assignment or I am writing because the action is being forced upon me I find
myself not enjoying the process and overall the end result is subpar. The perfect example of this
would be my junior year in high school when I was enrolled in AP english literature. I dreaded the
majority of the class simply because there was so much writing involved in the entire course and
therefore I was constantly writing just to get a grade. Being forced to write in such high volume
every week for an entire school year was not enjoyable for myself and as a result the

Corrected PS Growing up in a small townhouse, I would see my father only once a week on
Sundays because he was working long hours the rest of the week. When meeting him, I would
become very emotional because I knew that the reason I could not see him other days of the week
was because he was working. My father's hard work and perseverance gave me the drive to
become someone that he would be proud of. My goal is to become someone that he can say to
himself it was worth the long and strenuous hours spent at work. When I started my undergraduate
career, I did not have the intentions of entering this field of study. I wanted to run the family
business and make it successful. My father said, "If you want to enter the business and are willing
to do it every day, then work the entire summer." I was eager to start, arriving on time and being
the last one to leave. The enthusiasm soon abated, I could see that I no longer desired to run the

Personal Narrative: My Life In College
Believe it or not, I began my life in college. My mother moved me to Austin when I was just six
months old. She was only nineteen, studying as a full time student at the University of Texas. She
was also raised in a small town with a strong family. However, conceiving a child at such a young
age in college only added another obstacle of becoming a single mother while being a student. After
years of dedication and hard work, she graduated with a 4.0 GPA in nursing. Shortly after, she
became what she aspired to be; a registered nurse, through the support of her family and drive to
overcome adversity. Watching my mother push through hardships has taught me to set even higher
goals for myself. As I grew older, these family traits and values became

My Life As a College Student
Making the Transition
When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one student to dissolve the bonds
which have held him to his high school life, he can get fairly intimidated. Making the transition
from high school to college can be a tough one. I remember my experience in such a transition
vividly, as it was only a short time ago.
Growing up in a family in which both my parents had master's degrees, it was naturally expected
that I would go to college, and for both my own benefit as well as pleasing my parents, I chose to
pursue so–called "higher education". Stepping up to this "higher" plateau is no small matter, however.

(It may be a bit of a stretch here to call myself a man yet.) The hardest part was getting settled into
my new place. Fortunately, my campus has apartments in lieu of dormitories. I went to the lease
office and paid what, at the time, seemed like a fortune, and ran up and down two flights of stairs
for hours in an attempt to move in my belongings. My roommates seemed nice, and one of them had
yet to move in, so the room next to mine remained vacant for a while.
Boxed Noodles and Other Delicacies
The Darwinian theory of survival of the fittest translates well to the college world. While living on
my own, many of my long–dormant, carnivorous instincts kicked in. A trip to the local superstore
meant that my pantry was well stocked, but replenishing it was another matter. I soon found myself
planted firmly in a regimen of boxed noodles, frozen pizza, and TV dinners. While not the healthiest
of diets, they did allow me enough carbohydrates to make it through twelve hours of classes.
CB vs. CBW
After the initial stumbling block more commonly known as residential life, I faced the towering
challenge of settling into classes. Once I had registered (which was itself something of a dilemma),
I had in my hand a sheet of abbreviations that rivaled a military briefing or a computer manual. My
first class, on a Thursday morning, was located in a building called CBW, which stood for
Classroom Building West. Surely the

Essay 1 Sitting at my desk at home, a crushing feeling crept up on me. I didn't know what to think.
I'm not going to make it, am I. It was already midway through junior year of high school, and
having just calculated my GPA requirements for many of the colleges I had wanted to go to, I
realized that my grades were not even close to what I expected them to be. I guess I had been in
denial for so long that I let them slip this far. How could I have let this happen? Where was mymind

of disappointment, anger, panic, and frustration....show more content...
I worked so much harder. I began to pay attention in class, studied my notes everyday instead of
cramming the night before the test, participated in class, did my extra credit, and gave it my all.
Soon, people began to notice. My friends said I looked and acted stronger, more driven. My
teachers said they noticed my improvement, saying things such as: "I've noticed the change in
effort you've been putting in my class, I'm very impressed." "You're test grades have gotten
higher, keep up the good work!" These observations from my teachers and peers satisfied me, but
what truly made everything worth it were my grades. In every class I took, my grades shot up at
least 10 percent from the previous semester. I actually learned things in my classes instead of
carelessly writing down notes to spit all the information out on a test before I would quickly and
surely forget it. For once, I was actually happy with my schoolwork. Things were finally working
out how I planned it to be. I felt accomplishment that my hard work finally paid off, but I still kept
in mind that my original goals were still far from reach. Nevertheless, I was happy about all the
things I had changed and improved in the short amount of time I had left. When I first realized
my grades were below my expectations and that I wouldn't be able to go to the school of my dreams,
I was devastated, but at the end, after I worked hard and got the grades I wanted, I was okay with it.

Narrative Essays Examples For College

  • 1. Example Of Literacy Narrative Essay Literacy Narrative "School made us 'literate' but did not teach us to read for pleasure." –Ambeth R. Ocampo Growing up with English not being my first language was difficult. My parents knew how to speak it, but they still didn't know to how to pronounce or define some words. I knew how to speak English very well, but reading was sometimes hard for me. In order for me to learn, my brother would read bedtime stories, and I would follow along. From my princess books to me sitting down with him while he read his Captain Underpants comics. Anywhere I went I would try to read anything I laid eyes on. From hotel names to road signs to menus to anything that could help me improve. Already having an older brother who knew how to read very well, I took advantage of that. My brother would help me pronounce different words, tell me what they meant, and would applaud me for pronouncing them right. He was the main reason why I loved reading so much; loved. The clear cut definition of literacy is the ability to read and write, pretty simple. The more elaborate definition of literacy, though, is being able to read, write, and comprehend what is being read or written. People apply it to everyday life such as reading a book for school to reading a menu at a restaurant. Throughout...show more content... Similar to my freshman year, I read a series of a book that I just couldn't put down. That no matter what I was doing, I had to keep reading. This was the summer of my freshman year in college. I read The Program series by Suzanne Young and was so into the books. I would finish the first book, The Program, then start onto the next one and the next one. I didn't even realize that I had finished the whole entire series until I couldn't find the next book to the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Example Of A Narrative Essay College A narrative essay is a story that is true and has meaning, whether it be to prove a point, send a message, explain an event that's happened, or entertain the reader. Most narrative essays are written to convey a story from a past time that sends a message to not only the reader, but the writer themselves. When planning a narrative essay, the first step is to identify the topic in which the writer wants to explain. There are multiple ways in which the you can come up with a topic, it all depends on the style you're most comfortable with. The next step is to write down all the main events that supports the topic you have chosen. What main events led up to the story you're trying to approach? What key events made what your topic is all about?...show more content... This event made a big impact on my life as it showed me the value of work ethic by showing me that hard work pays off. It also taught me to never give up and follow your heart. And lastly, it taught me the importance of a team to help me through the tough practices and mental battles. When choosing my topic, I wrote down 3 main events that were important in my life that impacted me and shaped myself into the person I am today. The 3 I chose were: breaking the 3200–meter record for my school, breaking the 4x800 record with my team, and lastly, moving from Poinciana to Kissimmee and leaving all my friends to take on a new chapter in my life. The topic I chose to write is one I feel very passionate about and the single memory I can recall the most. Although breaking the 4x800 record with my team was a memorable moment and the first record I'd ever broken at my school, nothing compared to the feeling I got when I broke an individual record that was held by my own coach. I had a sense of relief and happiness, not just for myself, but my coach as well. It felt as if I didn't just break the record for the sake of me personally, but for him too. May have taken 21 years to be broken, but I'd say it sure was worth Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Example Of A Personal Narrative Essay On College When I first started college, the first thing I saw as I walked with my parents and all of my luggage to my new room was an empty lounge. It looked like the kind of place that was supposed to resemble the living room of a house, but it felt bare and unused. Because of the large wooden wall, the area felt cut off and separate, so for the first few weeks of college, I spent more time in my room, alone, rather than out in the lounge where a few people congregated to talk. As the semester pushed forward, I pushed myself to venture out into the lounge more in order to make friends on my floor. The closed off feeling of the lounge eventually came to feel like an asset. It made the area feel like it was closed off enough to have a conversation and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Example Of Personal Narrative Essay When I was a year old, my parents divorced. My mom was abused by my dad and he didn't let her go to college therefore, she stayed home and had my three older siblings and I. There was a total of three girls in high school at once which meant three college tuitions that couldn't be paid for by my mom but can be paid off if you work hard in school enough to get scholarships. My sisters were able to go to college and received multiple scholarships. My oldest sister Monique Pichardo received her Masters in Accounting at Texas A&M in San Antonio and has been working at the UT Health Science Center for many years. My second oldest sister Deonisia Riojas was given a full ride to the Southwest Texas Junior college and transferred to Sul Ross where she received her degree in teaching and is a Kindergarten teacher where she also teaches special needs children. She has had two children which both have anxiety disorders and learning disabilities. My nephew also has autism which...show more content... Child Protective Services were contacted right away and found out the truth about where I lived and whom I lived with. I have gone through a forensic interview in a child advocacy center which determined that it did happen and measures were taken for my case and mental health. My caseworker was actually my caseworker for my physical abuse case in junior high when I was being physically abused by my mom and he never helped much back then or during my recent case therefore my school counselor actually helped to get a new caseworker which is the man that placed in the care of my sister Deonisia Riojas where I have been ever since. With my sister, I help her raise her two kids or I'll babysit my disabled nephew while she has meetings meaning not being able to do many things as a regular senior would because I have many responsibilities at home that I need to attend to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Literacy Narrative Essay example At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward reading and writing; more so towards reading. Years ago I used to love reading books for pleasure but nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very basic posts on facebook expressing one's opinion on something or articles and threads on reddit discussing topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it's the severe senioritis that has overcome me as I enter my last semester at Chapman University. As I've gotten lazier I can see it start to reflect in my everyday life. Deep down I still love to read but I rarely find myself getting truly invested into the action unless it relates to something I am very...show more content... You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I'm not the same person that I was. I guess you could say it's part of growing up. It never really was intentional but it's just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing are very different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don't personally like to write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write because I believe it is one of the most important aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and professionally. To put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to write and survive in the world around me. I write because I have to, not because I want to. Hopefully this somewhat makes sense. To better explain let me make a comparison. When I am assigned a writing assignment or I am writing because the action is being forced upon me I find myself not enjoying the process and overall the end result is subpar. The perfect example of this would be my junior year in high school when I was enrolled in AP english literature. I dreaded the majority of the class simply because there was so much writing involved in the entire course and therefore I was constantly writing just to get a grade. Being forced to write in such high volume every week for an entire school year was not enjoyable for myself and as a result the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Example Of Personal Narrative Essay For College Corrected PS Growing up in a small townhouse, I would see my father only once a week on Sundays because he was working long hours the rest of the week. When meeting him, I would become very emotional because I knew that the reason I could not see him other days of the week was because he was working. My father's hard work and perseverance gave me the drive to become someone that he would be proud of. My goal is to become someone that he can say to himself it was worth the long and strenuous hours spent at work. When I started my undergraduate career, I did not have the intentions of entering this field of study. I wanted to run the family business and make it successful. My father said, "If you want to enter the business and are willing to do it every day, then work the entire summer." I was eager to start, arriving on time and being the last one to leave. The enthusiasm soon abated, I could see that I no longer desired to run the family business and did not enjoy my time working there. The end of the summer my father sat me down once again and asked, "Are you ready to continue this any longer?" The answer was clear that I was not ready to run a family business my entire life....show more content... After reviewing my second year in undergraduate, I realized that I had to get more serious about my education. I was an average student in school and I knew that I was not reaching my full potential. I knew I needed to excel in all my classes to reach my educational goals. From that point, I learned new studying techniques and went to office hours when needed. But I still had little idea of what career path I wanted to take with my bachelors in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Example Of A Personal Narrative Essay For College Before I was born, my father had been looked up upon his family, he aimed to be the best so he decided to leave Pakistan and start a new life in America and bring his family along. Money was limited to him and for 10 years he had worked non–stop just to form a living and also to bring his brother to Texas. My dad would not stop hustling even after he was able to bring his brother to Texas both of them had worked till they were able to bring the whole family from Pakistan. The following years he was able to open his first dry cleaning business and even after he still had plans on opening extra businesses. I was born in 1997 and that same year he had closed his dry cleaning business to pursue his dream of being an international entrepreneur in the used clothing business. After attending and receiving my bachelors in business I plan on working for Shell, Goldman Sachs or any major companies out there. On the side I want to support with my fathers companies in the textile and the freight industry and be able to make it develop. Eventually I will move onto working full time for the businesses my father has started and be able to lead it on to the future with my cousins. The University of Texas business programs will be able to achieve my future goals by building upon what I currently attain in the business market. Creating a moderate sized company is one of my goals to achieve during attending University of Texas and by the help of the classes I attend I will be able to start one up. This program will be able to give me a higher interest in my studies and open up opportunities such as internships. These internships will prepare me when it comes to working for a company, skills that every employee should carry, and to further prepare me for the real world after I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Personal Narrative: My Life In College Believe it or not, I began my life in college. My mother moved me to Austin when I was just six months old. She was only nineteen, studying as a full time student at the University of Texas. She was also raised in a small town with a strong family. However, conceiving a child at such a young age in college only added another obstacle of becoming a single mother while being a student. After years of dedication and hard work, she graduated with a 4.0 GPA in nursing. Shortly after, she became what she aspired to be; a registered nurse, through the support of her family and drive to overcome adversity. Watching my mother push through hardships has taught me to set even higher goals for myself. As I grew older, these family traits and values became Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. My Life As a College Student Making the Transition When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one student to dissolve the bonds which have held him to his high school life, he can get fairly intimidated. Making the transition from high school to college can be a tough one. I remember my experience in such a transition vividly, as it was only a short time ago. Growing up in a family in which both my parents had master's degrees, it was naturally expected that I would go to college, and for both my own benefit as well as pleasing my parents, I chose to pursue so–called "higher education". Stepping up to this "higher" plateau is no small matter, however. You Can Pick Your Friends A typical junior or senior in high...show more content... (It may be a bit of a stretch here to call myself a man yet.) The hardest part was getting settled into my new place. Fortunately, my campus has apartments in lieu of dormitories. I went to the lease office and paid what, at the time, seemed like a fortune, and ran up and down two flights of stairs for hours in an attempt to move in my belongings. My roommates seemed nice, and one of them had yet to move in, so the room next to mine remained vacant for a while. Boxed Noodles and Other Delicacies The Darwinian theory of survival of the fittest translates well to the college world. While living on my own, many of my long–dormant, carnivorous instincts kicked in. A trip to the local superstore meant that my pantry was well stocked, but replenishing it was another matter. I soon found myself planted firmly in a regimen of boxed noodles, frozen pizza, and TV dinners. While not the healthiest of diets, they did allow me enough carbohydrates to make it through twelve hours of classes. CB vs. CBW After the initial stumbling block more commonly known as residential life, I faced the towering challenge of settling into classes. Once I had registered (which was itself something of a dilemma), I had in my hand a sheet of abbreviations that rivaled a military briefing or a computer manual. My first class, on a Thursday morning, was located in a building called CBW, which stood for Classroom Building West. Surely the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Example Of Narrative Essay For College Four years ago, I was eagerly listening to Alex McDaniel, an award–winning journalist share her personal insight into the profession at the University of Mississippi when it finally dawned on me: journalism is my calling. Later, I was watching Spotlight, a movie about the efforts of the Boston Globe in the early 2000's to showcase the Church's acknowledgment and blunt protection of the abuse of children by local priests, when I truly understood the importance of journalism. To this day, Spotlight remains a reminder to always print the un–biased truth for the people, no matter the risks. I believe I deserve to be selected for one of the Education Foundation of Greenville's scholarships because as a hard–working student I commit myself to effectively take advantage of the opportunity that the scholarships will provide me. I didn't really do anything active outside of school so i didn't get any opportunities to meet anybody new. Even at school I only had a couple of friends until my dad introduced me to a sport called golf. He said it was a good way for me to meet new people and it was a fun sport. I tried golf and I met lots of new people. later that day I was enrolled into a golf program. I was kind of scared to play in front other kids but, in the end I met Lots of new people. • 12. Narrative Essay Example Pamela Essay 1 Sitting at my desk at home, a crushing feeling crept up on me. I didn't know what to think. I'm not going to make it, am I. It was already midway through junior year of high school, and having just calculated my GPA requirements for many of the colleges I had wanted to go to, I realized that my grades were not even close to what I expected them to be. I guess I had been in denial for so long that I let them slip this far. How could I have let this happen? Where was mymind when I needed to study and do homework? Why did so many stupid things like watching T.V. or going out with friends or just mindlessly waste my time on the internet? I felt an awful combination of disappointment, anger, panic, and frustration....show more content... I worked so much harder. I began to pay attention in class, studied my notes everyday instead of cramming the night before the test, participated in class, did my extra credit, and gave it my all. Soon, people began to notice. My friends said I looked and acted stronger, more driven. My teachers said they noticed my improvement, saying things such as: "I've noticed the change in effort you've been putting in my class, I'm very impressed." "You're test grades have gotten higher, keep up the good work!" These observations from my teachers and peers satisfied me, but what truly made everything worth it were my grades. In every class I took, my grades shot up at least 10 percent from the previous semester. I actually learned things in my classes instead of carelessly writing down notes to spit all the information out on a test before I would quickly and surely forget it. For once, I was actually happy with my schoolwork. Things were finally working out how I planned it to be. I felt accomplishment that my hard work finally paid off, but I still kept in mind that my original goals were still far from reach. Nevertheless, I was happy about all the things I had changed and improved in the short amount of time I had left. When I first realized my grades were below my expectations and that I wouldn't be able to go to the school of my dreams, I was devastated, but at the end, after I worked hard and got the grades I wanted, I was okay with it. • 13. Example Of Personal Narrative Essay My dad always says, "bravery is being afraid and doing it anyway." Until the age of 15, I had never stepped into a school, until one day, I gathered my courage and began my academic journey. I was homeschooled for most of my young life. While I studied the standard subjects, I was able to learn in an environment completely free and focused on me. It was an amazing and unique way to grow up, but it was also a bubble. I was unaware of much of the world around me, and as someone who was, at the time, quite shy, never really explored. I spent the first semester of highschool in an online program, but I did not like it and decided to transfer. I knew nothing about public school, and starting a new school half way through the year was a huge risk. I knew it was going to be difficult and scary, but I also knew it would help me grow as a person....show more content... The environment was completely foreign, I had never even been around so many kids in one place, I had never been in a classroom, and I knew my life was about to change. The entire act of transferring schools was, in itself, a risk. Despite never setting foot in a school before, I decided to take the most advanced classes available. This proved to be a stressful decision but it was also a risk that paid off. Deciding to pursue my academic ambitions despite being in a new environment set me on a trajectory to continue to take academic risks and follow my dreams. Prior to my freshman year, I was homeschooled. The school feels really big at the time and it's very overwhelming. As I walk around I see people hugging, reuniting, and saying, "oh my gosh I have missed you!" All I am worrying about is what people are thinking of me like, does she have any friends, or she looks like a loner. I am getting nervous and more nervous every second that passes. I decide I need to go straight to my classroom, but I have no idea where to go. I finally make my way to my classroom, then I sit down, and the bell rings. "The day is just beginning," I think to myself....show more content... I am halfway through the day. After this long day it's still not over yet, I am just half way through the day going into 5th period. As I walked in I see a girl I already met and I wanted to run and give her a hug, I was so excited to see someone I already knew. I didn't have to worry where I was going to sit that period, or who I was going to talk to. I probably looked like the happiest person in the world with a big smile on my face. As I am smiling as I say, "hello, Claire right?" She says, "Yes!" We sit together, exchange social media usernames, and numbers. Later, I go to 6th period, my science class. When we come in the teacher says to talk with people to sit in alphabetical order. I am placed next to a kid named Dominic Thomas, and his buddy is sitting on the other side of me. They were acting like I didn't exist, and getting in my personal space. Later, the teacher says, "The person sitting at your table will be your lab partner." That's when I found out Dominic Thomas will be my lab partner for the quarter. I did not know what was coming for me. Finally, 7th period here I come. Now this class was one crazy class, with some crazy people, but it was all good because I get to leave after this period. The bell rings and I am out of there. Leaving school I am feeling many emotions, I am happy to leave, excited to tell my mom about all I experienced that day, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Personal Narrative-College Essay I grew up in a family that grew up in Agoura Hills, my mom, two uncles, aunt, and brother all went to Agoura High School and my grandpa is really involved in the community with the high school football team, AYSO, and pony league baseball. My brother is two grades above me and I had all of his teachers throughout elementary and middle school, even now i have some of his old art teachers. I was constantly referred to as his little sister and i really struggled with identity issues because of that. As much as I love art I couldn't really enjoy it because I felt pressured into it and I knew i would never be as good as my brother, as one of his ceramics teachers put it, "he is one of the top 1% of artists to come through this school." I was so tired of always just being someone's daughter or niece or granddaughter and sister. I wanted to establish a place for me and be myself and sports medicine ended up being the answer to that. After the first month of being in sports medicine I was so happy and gained so much confidence in myself. I used to hate school and now every day I had the class i came home smiling because of how fun the class was and everything came so easily and naturally to me. I was so happy with myself and I was able to start letting go of old insecurities and gain confidence. Having...show more content... I have been able to get involved in my community. • 16. Personal Narrative: My Journey Back To College I have decided to go back to school to finish my degree. The first time I went back to school was from 1999–2002. I went to Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. I almost completed my degree before I had to move back to Tennessee. I then joined the Tennessee Army National Guard and became a full time National Guardsman. My family had told me several times that I need to complete my degree, but I never gave it much thought and never seemed to have time due to deployments. Time has flown by and I realize that I don't want to allow the college credits that I earned to go to waste without a degree. My ultimate goal for using this degree along with almost twenty years experience in human resources is to start my second career working Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Example Of Personal Narrative Essay I was born and raised in Canton Ohio. I had a lot of trouble focusing on my classes when I went to school. I had six brothers and sisters and we were from a low income family. I had a sister, Debbie, who was a slow learner and went to a special school. I also have a brother , Eddie, who is mentally disabled and blind. As of now he is in an assisted living program in Ohio. After I moved to Utah in 1979 I found it really hard to get a job. This was my first time away from my large family. After many years out here in Utah , I meant Gene, we had a child together out of wedlock. I moved in with him and we lived together for about 34 years now. After our son moved out at the age of 21 years old , I was diagnosed with ADHD, by my doctor, Dr. Rinehart....show more content... It was a lot of fun and the instructors gave me more time to get the assignments in. Moving to Utah was different for me. Everyone I meant was Mormon. I was raised Evangelical. I stayed with a Mormon family at first and I went to church with them. I couldn't agree with there beliefs. One of my strong points is that I have always had a deep sense of God, I have always prayed a lot. Once I was able to get a job, I ended up with a Mormon roommate. She was really hard to live with. She never seem to smile and she seem to look down on me so that didn't last long. I got to the point where I got a second job just to stay away from her. A Page 2 homeless man gave me a puppy while I lived with her and when she decided to go back home she took my puppy with her. I was so hurt. I have always had a pet, my whole life. When she went home I got another apartment and later another roommate. This one was raised Mormon but didn't live it. For some reason that kind of helped our relationship and we got along pretty well. Later I meant my son's Father, and I started to get my act together. I found out the reason I had trouble learning was because I had ADHD, and I got treatment for it and went back to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. During my two semesters at Suffolk County Community College, I have pushed myself to do work that goes above and beyond the average student. I have not only pushed myself to go above and beyond at Suffolk, I have done the same in my personal life too. Some adjectives that somebody would use to describe me is, hardworking, dedicated, and driven. Additionally, throughout my academic career these attributes have helped me overcome adversity. When it comes toschool, I have tried to better, challenge myself and further my academic career. In my senior year of high school, I could have slacked off like many other people but I didn't. I went to physical therapy three times a week to help with my back, and to try to get back to school sooner, and I did. The problem was, my back was barley well enough to sit through school, I then had to get injections in my back to help with the inflammation, unfortunately didn't work, so in November of 2015 I had back surgery to as a last resort to help my problem. The healing process was grueling, I had to go back to physical therapy three times a week again, there was the unknown of whether my back would even get better from the surgery, and I had to miss high school for a week. At this point I could have given up, I could have said "screw it," and given up on school and life, but I didn't. Through my hard work, dedication at physical therapy, and my strong will to get better, I improved. Even though I improved, it was still not enough, so in February of this year I went back to physical therapy, and then in March of this year I got an injection in my back, and finally through my strong work ethic, drive, and commitment to getting better, my back is finally healing and as of late March of 2017, I am finally able to start to return to doing the things I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. How My Family Challenged My Identity Growing up surrounded by idealized American values and my mother's traditional Chinese–Vietnamese principles challenged my identity as a first–generation Asian American. I excelled in school. I pushed myself to join programs such as Paideia, an English course integrated with history to attain higher levels of critical thinking. Despite being academically independent, my good grades and interest in English demonstrated how well I understood the language. Cantonese, the language I used to communicate with my mom, was an entirely different story. Because my mother would work night shifts and then sleep during the day, we could barely spend any time together, creating a lack of communication. I eventually lost my fluency in Cantonese. • 20. Personal Narrative Essay Examples Image nine resonates with me because it represents women "taking a seat at the table" in business and I believe more women need to be at the table. The photograph showing a woman in the back row reminds me of a theme from Sheryl Sandberg's book, Lean In, where she urges women to take a seat at the table versus sitting on the side of the room. After graduating from Smith College, where I was empowered by intellectually curious and ambitious women, and then transitioning to banking, a male–dominated industry, I recognized early in my career how few women there were in executive roles. As a career driven woman I became inspired to change the status quo and promote the career advancement of women. In my professional career, I have taken several...show more content... I learned that the bank sponsored employee led groups and I was passionate about creating a group to support women since one did not exist. I formed and led a founding committee that was successful in fulfilling the necessary requirements for approval and funding. These responsibilities included creating a charter and bylaws, demonstrating firm–wide interest, and proposing future programming to support our mission. After gaining approval and funding from human resources, our founding committee secured Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to speak at the launch event. The launch for our group was so popular that we had to a find a new venue to accommodate the 100+ employees who wanted to attend. Next, we obtained the bank's chief technology officer as our executive sponsor, the only female executive. After the launch, I went on to lead programming, which included organizing "Lean In" circles for women at varying levels, a roundtable chat with our president & CEO, and lunch & learns with our chief technology officer.
