Why Should School Provide Healthy Food?
Why should school provide healthy food? According to the research, 30.5 million students in the
United States get lunch at school rather than at home. However the problem is it's been found that
students who eat school lunches are at a higher risk for being an unhealthy weight. Because school
always serving fatty meals like hot dogs and fried chicken to the students. In the essay "School Food,
Public Policy, and Strategies for Change" by Marion Nestle, she mentioned the dilemma of whether
students should eat more or eat healthy at school, and Nestle declare that school should provide
healthier food for students. Eating unhealthy lunches for years can take a serious negative toll on
both mental and physical health. According to the article "The Effects of Children Eating Unhealthy
School Lunches", by Carly Schuna, she mentioned that unhealthy school lunch may cause obesity
and other weight issues, and Nestle also pointed out that "the most important nutritional problem
among children today is obesity–a consequence of too much food, rather than too little" (255).
Meanwhile, always eat unhealthy food also causes children miss out on essential antioxidants,
vitamins, and minerals. Furthermore, according to the article "Unhealthy School Lunches", eating a
lot of fat will also cause a higher risk for diseases like "high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart
disease, or diabetes." Those are all the negative impact on the

Nutrition and Fitness Essay
Nutrition and fitness play two of the most important roles in human health, and it is not difficult to
understand some of the consequences for ignoring their significance. Ignoring proper nutritional
and fitness habits can lead to extreme health risks such as obesity; most of which will eventually
cause serious health issues up to and including death. To decrease these serious health risks and
promote favorable personal health, one should incorporate positive nutritional and fitness habits.
The food that we put into our bodies is one of the most vital aspects of promoting good health

Obesity is associated with a vast number of health problems. It is often looked at as just a severe
cosmetic problem. In actuality, in addition to being cosmetic, obesity is one of the leading causes
of major health issues in the United States. According to medical news today, obesity is a key risk
factor for several conditions and diseases including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart
disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, several types of cancers, gallbladder disease and gall stones,
osteoarthritis, gout, and breathing problems including asthma and sleep apnea. These health factors
have also been liked to premature deaths in obese people. Someone who is 40% obese is two times
more likely to die prematurely than a normal–weight person (Cholesterol Management Health
Center, 2011). Though obesity is a major concern in our American society, it is a manageable and
even preventable disease. Through proper fitness and dietary habits one can overcome and
completely avoid the wrath of obesity. The Human body was designed for movement; to serve as
a vehicle to transport us from place to place. To fuel this vehicle, a balanced diet is critical.
Ideally, our bodies need a suitable balance of carbohydrates. If enough carbohydrates are not
present, fats and proteins can be broken down to provide energy to our bodies. In my personal diet

Food and Nutrition Essay
Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life.
People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of
civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how
healthy we are and how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the
functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common knowledge on what is good and
what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common
items people think of when they think of healthy foods. However, it is not enough just to know
what foods are good for your body, it is also important to understand why certain foods are...show

These include obesity, diabetes, and several heart conditions. Obesity is the term used for
someone who qualifies as significantly overweight. A BMI (Body Mass Index) records weight in
relation to height. A BMI of 25 is overweight and a BMI of 30 is obese. Obesity is not a disease in
its self but it can lead to different health issues, some fatal. Obesity can be related to eighty
percent of type two diabetes, seventy percent of cardiovascular disease, thirty percent to gall
bladder surgeries, and forty two percent to breast and colon cancer. Unfortunately, obesity rates
in people are rising rapidly. The United States alone had an obesity rate of twenty six percent in
2007. Some cases of obesity are gene related, but most other cases are a result of improper dieting
and exercise among the individual ("Why Is Proper Nutrition Important?", Case Western Reserve
University). Type II diabetes is another major effect from improper diet and nutrition. When
someone is a type II diabetic, their body either produces too little of an amount of insulin, or their
body's cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is important in helping your body use sugar for Kavanaugh 3
energy. When a person consumes food with sugar, the sugar is broken down into glucose. Glucose
is used as an energy source for the body and is transported throughout your blood into the cells by
insulin. Without proper amounts of insulin, your body is unable to use the glucose as

Child Nutrition
Fueling Growth
Children come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Their genetic blueprints determine how fast and
how big they will grow. Some children are destined to grow slowly while others make rapid leaps in
development. Genetic, environmental, hormonal, nutritional and behavioral factors work together to
determine a child's rate of growth. As the caregiver, your job is to provide the right materials for
growth – a wide variety of nutritious foods.

Diet and Nutrition Essay
A person eats to gain energy from food that allows our body to perform various functions that
allows us to survive. The food that people take in will go through their digestive system that then
allows them to harness the energy within food. That energy that is taken from the food is then
sent, via the bloodstream, to all of the living cells. These cells then use this energy to perform
their daily functions and tasks. We also eat food to help rebuild and repair damaged and old cells.

The easiest way to lower a persons' risk of lifestyle disease is to change their diet to a more
healthful one, and staying out of harmful environments. So, lifestyle diseases are diseases that
you can't always control but a person can greatly lower his risk of obtaining them. There are six
different food groups and they are: Fruit, Grain, Lean Meat and Poultry, Milk and Dairy, and
Vegetables. You should eat mostly grains, vegetables, and fruits. From most to least you should
eat: Grain, Vegetables, Fruit, Lean Meat and Poultry, Milk and Dairy, and then lastly fats, oils,
and sweets. You should in small amounts and only sometimes eat fats, oils, and sweets. All of
these different food groups contribute to your daily diet. The Daily intake guidelines are the
amounts and percentages of fats, proteins, carbs, etc. that a person should intake every day for
healthy eating. These guidelines are based on your weight; for example a person who weighs
100 lbs. would need less carbs than a person who weighs 200 lbs. It is also based on your level of
physical activity, height, and age. The daily intake (DI) you see on various foods is based on an
average adult's daily requirement of 8700kJ. The amount of kJ a person needs varies from person
to person because we are all different and require different amounts of nutrients. Minerals are a class

Reflection About Nutrition
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Food is essential for our
bodies to: develop, replace and repair cells and tissues; produce energy to keep warm, move and
work; carry out chemical processes such as the digestion of food; protect against, resist and fight
infection and recover from sickness. Most people are always rushed due to their hectic schedules,
and do not take the time to plan their diets and simply just go through a drive thru like me. Most
people, including myself are unaware of the importance of eating and are unaware if the nutrients
their lacking. Luckily, I have never had any major health problems, and I have been able to consume
many foods without having any health issues. Thanks to a...show more content...
That being the case, I was over in added sugars, saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium. More
importantly I was also lacking dietary fiber, calcium, potassium, magnesium, vitamin A, vitamin D,
and vitamin E. I believe that I am not making healthy food choices and that is consequently the
reason why I am lacking and over nutrients, minerals, and vitamins. In order to be healthy, I must
improve my food choices. I tend to go to McDonald's often because I am too lazy to actually make
myself something healthy. I should be more careful with my diet, because in the long run it can
have severely affect my health. For instance, heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and etc. On
the other hand, eating a balanced diet is vital for good health and wellbeing. It provides our
bodies with the energy, protein, essential fats, vitamins and minerals to live, grow and function
properly for many years. To me it certainly isn't easy to cut off fast food and I honestly do not
think I can cut it out of my life forever. I personally love it and find it easier, yummier, and a lot
faster. My goal is to eat healthier, and to be on target with every single one of my nutrients,
minerals, and vitamins. I will reward myself every once in a while, with some of my favorite
not–so–healthy foods. In conclusion, I am very glad I was given this as an assignment. It was

The Effects Of Food On The Body Essay
Food
Food is any nourishing substance that is eaten, drunk or otherwise taken into the body to sustain life.
Food supplies nutrients to perform important functions in the body. Nutrients are substances that
provide energy for physical activities, for digestion and for regulation of body temperature and also
provide materials for the growth and repair of the body, and for keeping the immune system healthy.
If these nutrients are not present in our food in sufficient amount, could lead to ill health and in
severe cases, death.
The human body requires a wide range of nutrients to stay healthy such as 'macronutrients '
micronutrients, water and fiber. A macronutrient is a major nutritional component present in
relatively large amounts, such as carbohydrates, protein, and fat. Micronutrients, also major
nutritional components that are present in relatively small amounts, such as vitamins & minerals.
The body also needs water, which is needed for every process that the body performs, it is necessary
for digestion, absorption, circulatory and excretory function. Fiber helps to move food through the
digestive system, it is not digested but it helps in the easy elimination of food and prevents
constipation
Many other non–nutritive components also present in food such as colors (natural and synthetic),
flavors, additives, dietary fiber, phytochemicals, flavonoids and various contaminants such as
pesticides which can have a significant impact on health, whether beneficial or toxic.

Informative Speech On Nutrition

body through our mouth. I could have just said intake of materials, but, no, I know of people who

[1] If I take a step further, I would say nutrition is the interpretation of the interaction between the
nutrients in the food we consume and our growth, health, diseases, et cetera. I hope you know
nutrition goes beyond this, it also includes the absorption of foods, assimilation, the catabolism (
break down of food), the anabolism ( build–up of bigger molecules for energy storage), even down
to the excretion.

as to why many people need to cut down on the junky foods and to start eating healthy.

Obesity occurs over time when you eat more calories than you use. The balance between your
genetic makeup, overeating, eating high–fat foods, and not being physically active. Being obese
increases your risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, arthritis, and some cancers. If you are obese,
losing even 5 to 10 percent of your weight can delay or prevent some of these diseases. For
example, that means losing 10 to 20 pounds if you weigh 200 pounds. All of this can come from
eating unhealthy foods.
Anyone who struggles with food and eating can fall into habits that may lead to what professionals
call disordered eating. Disordered eating can take many forms, ranging from unhealthy eating habits
that keep you from losing weight. "Healthy functioning organs require adequate nutrition, and
healthy hair follicles are no exception. Starvation diets that lead to severe protein–energy
malnutrition can cause brittle hair or worse, hair loss. Studies show diets that are low in protein,
essential fatty acids, and nutrients such as Vitamin C, zinc and iron are associated with hair loss,
thinning, and loss of pigmentation." (Quoted by Kristin Kilpatrick) "Foods that are high in
simple carbohydrates cause blood sugar to spike, which is followed by a blood sugar drop soon
after. Often called a sugar crash, this is the reason a high carbohydrate, sugary breakfast or
afternoon snack can leave you in an energy slump a few hours later. To help stabilize blood sugar

Essay about Eating Healthy Foods
What is healthy eating? Ask any elite athlete and their answer will probably be much different
from that of a vegans answer. Some people may respond with a simple, " Not eating junk food or
any oily and sugary foods." However, others may give an in depth answer as to the true meaning
of health and the exact health benefits of specific foods. This has rose to be a major problem in the
concept of "Healthy eating" because the majority of Americans have an extremely skewed view of
what it means to truly eat healthy. This misunderstanding has given the United States of America a
very poor reputation geared towards a "Fast food obsessed nation". Healthy eating is linked directly

The body also needs proteins from sources such as meat, fish or tofu. The protein from these
sources supplies much needed energy to the body in order to function for a complete day. There
are multiple diet plans that completely cut out the consumption of these food groups. Though in
retrospective it seems like a good idea to prevent pollution in the human body by cutting these
completely out of a diet, it is actually harming the body because it is not being energized with a
consumption of foods from all food groups. Poor skin complexion and acne can be easily treated
with the help of healthy food choices. The rich vitamins, minerals and nutrients in food are a great
way to repair and rebuild some impurities in the body that may cause poor complexion and acne.
Foods containing Vitamin A have been known to reduce the effects and inflammation of acne
immensely. Vitamin A is the main ingredient in the prescription drug known as Accutane. Accutane
has been used over the past two decades to treat acne. Too much Vitamin A can have detrimental
side effects, but is a tremendous tool in moderation. Vitamin A is most easily found in foods such as
salmon, carrots, spinach, and broccoli. Those who have endured the long and grueling road of acne
often have a deficient amount of zinc in their body. Zinc is known to prevent acne by creating an
inhospitable growth environment in the skin. Look to turkey and nuts to incorporate zinc into a

Persuasive Essay On Healthy Food
There seems to be far too much confusion around what healthy eating really is and how to do it.
Everywhere you look there are food products being portrayed as "nutritious" when clearly they aren't,
we have health organisations in Australia promoting the wrong message and our sports role models
and health experts promoting foods which are still unhealthy – it's any wonder society is sicker than
ever before. Did you know that 60%+ of Australians are overweight or obese and that the main
cause of death is cardiovascular disease? There appears to be a correlation between the increase in
refined, fried and fatty foods and the rise in weight gain. WHAT IS HEALTHY EATING?
Healthy eating is eating foods which infuse the digestive system with nutrients which are used to
rebuild and repair tissue as well as give the body an abundance of energy. For the digestive system to
work at optimal levels it needs to be able to secrete, digest, absorb and defecate regularly. Foods
which are ideal for the digestive system are foods which haven't been tampered with and are still
alive! Our body is alive, therefore we need to eat alive foods such as leafy greens, vegetables and
fruits, as well as nuts, seeds, legumes and whole grains. These foods are cleansing, nutrient–rich and
give us the most energy. WHAT ISN'T HEALTHY EATING? Eating foods which are highly
processed, refined (wheat and sugar), fatty and fried, tampered with etc... are not good for us in
large doses. The body is pretty powerful

The Effects Of Nutritious Food On Public Health

countries, the reality that we are in the midst of a public health crisis is quite ironic. However,
public health is not a laughing matter. There are many variables that impact an individual's quality

many producers are forced to waste excess food, there should not be unfed or underfeed
communities. Not only do surpluses of food exist, with production efficiencies, we now have

Unlike diets, eating healthy is a not a temporary solution. Eating healthy and choosing a variety of
foods from each food group – grams, proteins, fruits, vegetables and diary combined with routine
physical activity can result in a long and healthy lifestyle. When choosing food for one's family it is
important to look for food low in fat and sugar, relatively low in calories, rich in vitamins, minerals,
and other nutrients important to health.
Some examples of these types of foods are fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fat–free or low–fat
milk, dairy products, lean meat, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts. There are some foods that are
a little bit higher in calories, fat, and added sugars, which could be consumed on a less frequent
basis. Foods highest in fat, added sugars and calories are often low in nutrients and therefore
should only be eaten once in a while, such as special occasions in small portions. Some examples
of these types of foods are fried vegetables, fruits canned in heavy syrup, doughnuts, sweet rolls,
whole milk, untrimmed beef, cookies, pies, and sodas. Eat only when hungry and do not over eat.
Overeating is one of the main problems people have when trying to maintain a healthy weight. If a

Literature Review On Nutrition
Literature Review In my introduction I argued that good nutrition is a stepping stone to a healthy
life and for children this is essential to a strong start. Yet research shows that as young children they
don't have much control over what foods are in their household or what they are fed, proving it is
important to work with parents to make sure they understand how critical good nutrition is. In this
chapter, I present the literature that shows evidence of barriers parents face in regards to learning
about good nutrition for their children. They also face a lot of options at supermarkets and with fast
food restaurants on choosing what to eat. Next, research asserts that interventions can be successful
in childcare settings or through activities that get parents engaged. Children learn about nutrition at
home and the parents have a huge influence on how children feel about food. Those living in
households that are food insecure whether it's because they live in a food desert or are low income,
have children much more likely to be overweight. When we can arm parents with tools to help them
better understand the nutritional needs of their young children we can have a healthier generation.
In this review I examine the common barriers found throughout many of the sources as well as
several intervention models used to combat the barriers families are facing.

Essay on Restaurant Food vs. Home-Cooked Meals
Is it really worth going out to eat or is it better to eat home–cooked meals at home? Everyone has
different perspectives on where they like to eat and what they like to eat, but in reality, homemade
food is usually more healthy, nutritious, cheap, safe, and dependable. In addition, home–cooked
meals can give people a warm, comfy feeling that makes them feel more comfortable and allows
people to spend more quality time with their families or loved ones as they are able to enjoy a meal
made by someone sitting at the table. Although restaurants can be healthy, nutritious, cheap, and
authentic, restaurant food may not be as reliable and safe as the food can be made and served by
strangers. Home–cooked meals and restaurant meals definitely...show more content...
Based on this average, the calculations would show that per year, an American can save at least
$766.50 when eating the "Ultimate Homemade Burger" instead of the Big Mac. In home cooked
meals, people can choose to make the food the way they want and they are able to eat as much as
they want, knowing that the food is more safe and healthy. On the other hand, some restaurant foods
may be considered healthier and more nutritious than homemade foods. Submarine sandwiches from
Subway can be very similar to homemade sandwiches. The made to order restaurant, Subway,
makes sandwiches such as the six inch Italian B.M.T. that can be compared to the homemade Italian
subs shown by the Food Network. The Italian B.M.T. submarine from Subway contains 410
calories, 20 grams of proteins, and 16 grams of total fat, while the homemade Italian submarine
sandwich contains 663 calories, 31 grams of protein, and 50 grams of fat. This Italian B.M.T. from
Subway is more nutritious and healthy than the homemade sub, but both uses fresh produces and are
very closely alike. In addition to Subways, there are many other restaurants that serve food that can
be as healthy as homemade foods. Although many restaurants, especially fast food

Benefits Of Eating Healthy Foods Essay
My parents raised their eight children with the belief that eating healthy foods were crucial in
maintaining proper growth and development. An abundance of fresh garden (organic) vegetables
and fruits, dairy foods, and various selected meats was the norm in our household. Special deserts
and treats were frequently provided too. My grandfather, with all good intentions, began purchasing
cow's milk. He cared about his grandchildren very much and believed it to be nutritious. The taste
can never be forgotten. It was painful to drink that glass of milk. A container full of chocolate syrup
couldn't disguise the disgusting taste. Unfortunately, many of the foods we consumed are not
considered to be healthy today.
The recent graduate course, "Creating Health and Balance in Today's Classroom", along with a
personal interest in my health and that of my loved ones, has enabled me to have a better
understanding that specific foods impose a major health risk. Being conscience of what we eat is,
frankly, a matter of life or death.
Statistics list Heart disease as being the number one cause of death in our country. Yet, with a
disciplined attitude, obtaining a healthy diet and lifestyle can prevent and reverse heart disease in
many cases. Sadly, Many Americans, continue to eat unhealthy foods that cause unnecessary, early
death. According to Campbell, T.C., & Campbell, T.M. (2004):
Heart disease will kill one out of every three Americans. According to the American Heart
Association,

Essay On Nutritious Food

  • 1. Why Should School Provide Healthy Food? Why should school provide healthy food? According to the research, 30.5 million students in the United States get lunch at school rather than at home. However the problem is it's been found that students who eat school lunches are at a higher risk for being an unhealthy weight. Because school always serving fatty meals like hot dogs and fried chicken to the students. In the essay "School Food, Public Policy, and Strategies for Change" by Marion Nestle, she mentioned the dilemma of whether students should eat more or eat healthy at school, and Nestle declare that school should provide healthier food for students. Eating unhealthy lunches for years can take a serious negative toll on both mental and physical health. According to the article "The Effects of Children Eating Unhealthy School Lunches", by Carly Schuna, she mentioned that unhealthy school lunch may cause obesity and other weight issues, and Nestle also pointed out that "the most important nutritional problem among children today is obesity–a consequence of too much food, rather than too little" (255). Meanwhile, always eat unhealthy food also causes children miss out on essential antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Furthermore, according to the article "Unhealthy School Lunches", eating a lot of fat will also cause a higher risk for diseases like "high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease, or diabetes." Nutrition and Fitness Essay Nutrition and fitness play two of the most important roles in human health, and it is not difficult to understand some of the consequences for ignoring their significance. Ignoring proper nutritional and fitness habits can lead to extreme health risks such as obesity; most of which will eventually cause serious health issues up to and including death. To decrease these serious health risks and promote favorable personal health, one should incorporate positive nutritional and fitness habits. The food that we put into our bodies is one of the most vital aspects of promoting good health because it acts as our personal fuel. If the food we consume contains mostly empty calories and few nutrients, our bodies' performance levels will be...show more content... Obesity is associated with a vast number of health problems. It is often looked at as just a severe cosmetic problem. In actuality, in addition to being cosmetic, obesity is one of the leading causes of major health issues in the United States. According to medical news today, obesity is a key risk factor for several conditions and diseases including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, several types of cancers, gallbladder disease and gall stones, osteoarthritis, gout, and breathing problems including asthma and sleep apnea. These health factors have also been liked to premature deaths in obese people. Someone who is 40% obese is two times more likely to die prematurely than a normal–weight person (Cholesterol Management Health Center, 2011). Though obesity is a major concern in our American society, it is a manageable and even preventable disease. Through proper fitness and dietary habits one can overcome and completely avoid the wrath of obesity. The Human body was designed for movement; to serve as a vehicle to transport us from place to place. To fuel this vehicle, a balanced diet is critical. Ideally, our bodies need a suitable balance of carbohydrates. If enough carbohydrates are not present, fats and proteins can be broken down to provide energy to our bodies. In my personal diet I tend to incorporate a lot of foods that are high in carbohydrates. I tend to eat large amounts of pasta which Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Food and Nutrition Essay Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life. People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common knowledge on what is good and what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common items people think of when they think of healthy foods. However, it is not enough just to know what foods are good for your body, it is also important to understand why certain foods are...show more content... These include obesity, diabetes, and several heart conditions. Obesity is the term used for someone who qualifies as significantly overweight. A BMI (Body Mass Index) records weight in relation to height. A BMI of 25 is overweight and a BMI of 30 is obese. Obesity is not a disease in its self but it can lead to different health issues, some fatal. Obesity can be related to eighty percent of type two diabetes, seventy percent of cardiovascular disease, thirty percent to gall bladder surgeries, and forty two percent to breast and colon cancer. Unfortunately, obesity rates in people are rising rapidly. The United States alone had an obesity rate of twenty six percent in 2007. Some cases of obesity are gene related, but most other cases are a result of improper dieting and exercise among the individual ("Why Is Proper Nutrition Important?", Case Western Reserve University). Type II diabetes is another major effect from improper diet and nutrition. When someone is a type II diabetic, their body either produces too little of an amount of insulin, or their body's cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is important in helping your body use sugar for Kavanaugh 3 energy. When a person consumes food with sugar, the sugar is broken down into glucose. Glucose is used as an energy source for the body and is transported throughout your blood into the cells by insulin. Food is essential for our bodies to: develop, replace and repair cells and tissues; produce energy to keep warm, move and work; carry out chemical processes such as the digestion of food; protect against, resist and fight infection and recover from sickness. Most people are always rushed due to their hectic schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets and simply just go through a drive thru like me. That being the case, I was over in added sugars, saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium. More importantly I was also lacking dietary fiber, calcium, potassium, magnesium, vitamin A, vitamin D, and vitamin E. I believe that I am not making healthy food choices and that is consequently the reason why I am lacking and over nutrients, minerals, and vitamins. In order to be healthy, I must improve my food choices. I tend to go to McDonald's often because I am too lazy to actually make myself something healthy. I should be more careful with my diet, because in the long run it can have severely affect my health. For instance, heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and etc. On the other hand, eating a balanced diet is vital for good health and wellbeing. It provides our bodies with the energy, protein, essential fats, vitamins and minerals to live, grow and function properly for many years. To me it certainly isn't easy to cut off fast food and I honestly do not think I can cut it out of my life forever. I personally love it and find it easier, yummier, and a lot faster. My goal is to eat healthier, and to be on target with every single one of my nutrients, minerals, and vitamins. I will reward myself every once in a while, with some of my favorite not–so–healthy foods. In conclusion, I am very glad I was given this as an assignment. • 7. The Effects Of Food On The Body Essay Food Food is any nourishing substance that is eaten, drunk or otherwise taken into the body to sustain life. Food supplies nutrients to perform important functions in the body. Nutrients are substances that provide energy for physical activities, for digestion and for regulation of body temperature and also provide materials for the growth and repair of the body, and for keeping the immune system healthy. If these nutrients are not present in our food in sufficient amount, could lead to ill health and in severe cases, death. The human body requires a wide range of nutrients to stay healthy such as 'macronutrients ' micronutrients, water and fiber. A macronutrient is a major nutritional component present in relatively large amounts, such as carbohydrates, protein, and fat. Micronutrients, also major nutritional components that are present in relatively small amounts, such as vitamins & minerals. The body also needs water, which is needed for every process that the body performs, it is necessary for digestion, absorption, circulatory and excretory function. Fiber helps to move food through the digestive system, it is not digested but it helps in the easy elimination of food and prevents constipation Many other non–nutritive components also present in food such as colors (natural and synthetic), flavors, additives, dietary fiber, phytochemicals, flavonoids and various contaminants such as pesticides which can have a significant impact on health, whether beneficial or toxic. Obesity occurs over time when you eat more calories than you use. The balance between your genetic makeup, overeating, eating high–fat foods, and not being physically active. Being obese increases your risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, arthritis, and some cancers. If you are obese, losing even 5 to 10 percent of your weight can delay or prevent some of these diseases. For example, that means losing 10 to 20 pounds if you weigh 200 pounds. All of this can come from eating unhealthy foods. Anyone who struggles with food and eating can fall into habits that may lead to what professionals call disordered eating. Disordered eating can take many forms, ranging from unhealthy eating habits that keep you from losing weight. "Healthy functioning organs require adequate nutrition, and healthy hair follicles are no exception. Some people may respond with a simple, " Not eating junk food or any oily and sugary foods." However, others may give an in depth answer as to the true meaning of health and the exact health benefits of specific foods. This has rose to be a major problem in the concept of "Healthy eating" because the majority of Americans have an extremely skewed view of what it means to truly eat healthy. • 11. Persuasive Essay On Healthy Food There seems to be far too much confusion around what healthy eating really is and how to do it. Everywhere you look there are food products being portrayed as "nutritious" when clearly they aren't, we have health organisations in Australia promoting the wrong message and our sports role models and health experts promoting foods which are still unhealthy – it's any wonder society is sicker than ever before. Did you know that 60%+ of Australians are overweight or obese and that the main cause of death is cardiovascular disease? There appears to be a correlation between the increase in refined, fried and fatty foods and the rise in weight gain. WHAT IS HEALTHY EATING? Healthy eating is eating foods which infuse the digestive system with nutrients which are used to rebuild and repair tissue as well as give the body an abundance of energy. For the digestive system to work at optimal levels it needs to be able to secrete, digest, absorb and defecate regularly. Foods which are ideal for the digestive system are foods which haven't been tampered with and are still alive! Our body is alive, therefore we need to eat alive foods such as leafy greens, vegetables and fruits, as well as nuts, seeds, legumes and whole grains. These foods are cleansing, nutrient–rich and give us the most energy. WHAT ISN'T HEALTHY EATING? Eating foods which are highly processed, refined (wheat and sugar), fatty and fried, tampered with etc... are not good for us in large doses. The body is pretty powerful Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. The Effects Of Nutritious Food On Public Health Grocery stores typically have only 1–2% profit margins,[6] so the difficulties involved in running an urban supermarket are often seen Intro As one of the world's most economically developed countries, the reality that we are in the midst of a public health crisis is quite ironic. However, public health is not a laughing matter. There are many variables that impact an individual's quality of life, however we will focus on one; "YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT!" It's that succinct phrase that theorists have leveraged to link the absence of nutritious food to negatively impacting public health. A geographic area where nutritious food is difficult to obtain is deemed a food desert. Sadly food deserts are usually present in marginalized, minority, and...show more content... Within our analysis, we examine the United States of America, a nation where neglected urban communities are presented with poor options for sustenance leading to negative consequences in their public health score. These communities do not naturally form; they are abandoned by the result of multiple market forces. Our analysis seeks to use game theory to explain the dynamics of the relationship between consumers in malnourished communities and market forces like the grocers and the government as well as unfold the underlying factors that contribute the decision–making process leading to food deserts. Subsequently we will provide our recommended healing mechanism to mend this relationship and promote more collaborative behaviors to maximize public efficiencies and social welfare. The question at hand is how do we go from supermarkets to food deserts? In a nation thriving on productivity with enormous amount of food, so much that many producers are forced to waste excess food, there should not be unfed or underfeed communities. Not only do surpluses of food exist, with production efficiencies, we now have larger portions of food ever. An average burger today is more than twice the size of a burger 20 years ago. Supermarkets like Wal–Mart and Aldi's are able to mass produce, offer Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Nutrition requires a well–balanced diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. Over the past seven days I have been recording and have been looking very carefully at my intake of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fats. In our task, the objective was to record the basic foods we ate during the period of seven, but it did not require recording every single detail or our intake of food. • 17. Literature Review On Nutrition Literature Review In my introduction I argued that good nutrition is a stepping stone to a healthy life and for children this is essential to a strong start. Yet research shows that as young children they don't have much control over what foods are in their household or what they are fed, proving it is important to work with parents to make sure they understand how critical good nutrition is. In this chapter, I present the literature that shows evidence of barriers parents face in regards to learning about good nutrition for their children. They also face a lot of options at supermarkets and with fast food restaurants on choosing what to eat. Next, research asserts that interventions can be successful in childcare settings or through activities that get parents engaged. Children learn about nutrition at home and the parents have a huge influence on how children feel about food. Those living in households that are food insecure whether it's because they live in a food desert or are low income, have children much more likely to be overweight. When we can arm parents with tools to help them better understand the nutritional needs of their young children we can have a healthier generation. In this review I examine the common barriers found throughout many of the sources as well as several intervention models used to combat the barriers families are facing. Parents Barriers Time Constraints. I define time constraints as the balancing act of completing all daily tasks and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Persuasive Essay On Nutrition Imagine you come home from work, making minimum wage so you really cannot spend all your money, you have three little hungry kids that have not eaten all day, and all you can afford is couple packs of unhealthy ramen noodles, McDonalds and few chocolate bars. This is the reality of millions of American families, who are still making less than 10,000 a year and are struggling to give their children the right kind of nutrition for their growth and daily life's. The majority of the American population are not aware, we have people living among us, who are still struggling to survive, lack of resources, and are not educated enough about the right food nutrition. Many of these low income families, are not even getting the right nutritious meals they deserve, even if they qualified. The majority of people have been blind about the issue and are not aware the problem, the time has come we put an end to food insufficiency. Why can the United States government provide the department of agriculture, enough money to provide every single family, regardless the income, the right amount food, produce and a healthy nutrition? Everyone has different perspectives on where they like to eat and what they like to eat, but in reality, homemade food is usually more healthy, nutritious, cheap, safe, and dependable. In addition, home–cooked meals can give people a warm, comfy feeling that makes them feel more comfortable and allows people to spend more quality time with their families or loved ones as they are able to enjoy a meal made by someone sitting at the table. • 20. Benefits Of Eating Healthy Foods Essay My parents raised their eight children with the belief that eating healthy foods were crucial in maintaining proper growth and development. An abundance of fresh garden (organic) vegetables and fruits, dairy foods, and various selected meats was the norm in our household. Special deserts and treats were frequently provided too. My grandfather, with all good intentions, began purchasing cow's milk. He cared about his grandchildren very much and believed it to be nutritious. The taste can never be forgotten. It was painful to drink that glass of milk. A container full of chocolate syrup couldn't disguise the disgusting taste. Unfortunately, many of the foods we consumed are not considered to be healthy today. The recent graduate course, "Creating Health and Balance in Today's Classroom", along with a personal interest in my health and that of my loved ones, has enabled me to have a better understanding that specific foods impose a major health risk. Being conscience of what we eat is, frankly, a matter of life or death. Statistics list Heart disease as being the number one cause of death in our country. Yet, with a disciplined attitude, obtaining a healthy diet and lifestyle can prevent and reverse heart disease in many cases. Sadly, Many Americans, continue to eat unhealthy foods that cause unnecessary, early death. According to Campbell, T.C., & Campbell, T.M.
