The Palanca Awards are literary awards established in the Philippines in 1950 that are considered the most prestigious in the country. They are organized by the Carlos Palanca Foundation and recognize works in both English and Filipino, as well as regional languages. In 2009, categories for poetry for children were added. Works are judged in categories including short stories, essays, plays, and poetry. The awards have been running for over 60 years and help fund the publication of winning works. The first Palanca Awards in 1951 recognized the short stories "Clay" in English and "Kuwento ni Mabuti" in Filipino.
