1. TRANSVERSE WAVE
•Particles are perpendicular to the direction of
propagation of the wave.
•It consists of a crust and a trough.
•Distance between a crust and a trough is its
wavelength.
•Maximum displacement from its mean position
is its amplitude.
2. LONGITUDINAL WAVE
• Particles are parallel to the direction of
propagation of the wave.
• It consists of compression and rarefaction.
• In compressed region pressure is high, where
as in rarefaction pressure is low
5. ADSORPTION
• Some substances hold particles of certain other
substances on their surface alone.
• Eg: dust particles stick to walls,
Charcoal in water filters removes coloured and
foul smelling.
• Rate of adsorption depends on nature of the
substance.
• Some components of a mixture are easily
adsorbed while some other are not adsorbed.
