5. Graduate School of Library and Information Studies
MLIS Degree
COMPLETED & APPROVED: Comprehensive curriculum
overhaul features 5 core courses and three specialized
tracks: library leadership, organization of digital
information, and school/youth library services. Re-
accreditation received from the American Library
Association.
Graduate Certificate in Digital Literacy
COMPLETED & APPROVED: 12-credit, 12-month blended
learning program in collaboration with the School of
Education supports education and technology leaders
who are integrating digital media into formal and informal
learning across K-16 education

6. Integrated Media Major
UNDER DEVELOPMENT: New undergraduate
interdisciplinary major offers students a flexible program
to advance knowledge and skills
Certificate in Digital Media and Marketing
BEGINNING DEVELOPMENT: 12-credit, 12-month fully
online program includes a focus on Internet and new
media marketing, storytelling and brand development,
creative design and usability testing, web analytics and
optimization

• $50,000 planning grant for Media Smart Libraries from
the Institute for Museum & Library Services (IMLS)
• $50,000 grant from the Rhode Island Foundation for
Digital City Rhode Island, a statewide business
development – higher education initiative
• $25,000 to establish the Center for Media Literacy

8. Coordinated Approach to Internships
All Harrington School internships are coordinated through
Internships and Experiential Education (ITR) which provides
support for learning goals, clear expectations, e-portfolio and
supervisor assessment
Executive Advisory Board Member Engagement
Presentations, Google Hangouts and face-to-face meetings
connect students and faculty with members of the Executive
Advisory Board.
DC 206 Co-Work Space, Digital City Rhode Island
Current Harrington School students and recent grads can
apply for free 4-month or 12-month residencies at DC206, the
Digital City RI co-work space we developed in Providence
Rhode Island in collaboration with Providence Pictures and

10. Harrington Rangers. Undergraduate brand ambassadors
provide outreach and customized communication support
for prospective students and their families. Rangers also
offer academic peer advising to current students.
Harrington HUB. The HUB is open 110 hours weekly for
equipment checkout and provides access to computers
with specialized software for post-production.

Ranger Hall Renovation. Permits in hand;
fundraising campaign begins Fall 2014.
Journalism Department Moves to Rodman
Hall. Renovated space includes faculty offices
and multimedia classroom with 25 MACs.
