breeders.
 Most of the time pet stores will get their puppies
from places called puppy mills.


 Shelters get their puppies from all over.
 Sometimes they are rescued from a bad situation.
 Some are found without a home.
 Some come from people who have accidently had
puppies and don’t know what to do with them.
 Others are sometimes born there.

6. Why might you buy a puppy from
a pet store?

 Convenience

an animal shelter?

 Animal shelter dogs are in desperate need of a home
 It’s easier to find out more about their history.
 Their medical needs have already been taken care of.
 The people who give them away actually care if you
are or are not a good fit.

8. What are puppy mills?

 Puppy Mills are places where puppies are bred to be
sold a very fast rate.
 Imagine a place just like a large scale chicken coop
with dogs instead of chickens.
 The female dogs are forced to have puppies
repeatedly without any time to rest in between.
 They typically die very early on without ever going
outside.
 Puppy mills are ILLEGAL
