Pitch analysis
1. Pitch Analysis
In our pitch we disclosed to our audience a number of details about what we
wanted our trailer to be like. We started by discussing with them the narrative
which we had in mind for our supernaturalhorror. Wethen moved on to show
them the trailer for āThe Cabin in the Woodsā as this is an inspirational text for
our trailer. This is because the narrativeis highly similar to our own (a group of
friends going on holiday goes wrong dueto supernaturalforces). We then
moved on to informing them of the different characters weplanned to include
in our trailer as we wanted to get across thatthey would be relatively normal
teens, like themselves. After this we went on to explaining to our peers why
exactly we chose the supernaturalsub-genreof horror for our trailer as we
wanted them to understand the passion wehave for these types of films,
which a lot of our peers also share. One key element which we wanted to get
across was thefact that our promotional packagewas to be based on true
events as this is a common technique used in supernaturalhorrors which we
felt our peers would recogniseas something unique and interesting to our
package.
Towards the end of the pitch we informed everyoneon whatwe planned to do
for our ancillary task, and justified why we thought this was effective as we felt
if our ideas werenāt strong enough they would be able to input their views
which could help us improve. We then went on to display an inspirationalfilm
poster in order to give them a visualrepresentation of what we wanted to
achieve with our promotionalpackage.
Frompitching our ideas to our class we wanted to gain clarification of our
ideas, and also what our peers thought of them in order to help us progress. In
addition to this we wanted feedback fromour teacher so we could see whatan
experienced media practitioner could adviseus on in order to help us excel.
Aside fromthis, by actually discussing and presenting these ideas we were able
to gain a far better understanding of whatwas required of us for this task.
After presenting our ideas, our peers encouraged us to think about technical
ways of displaying that our film is fromthe supernaturalsub-genre, and they
were also interested in knowing if we had changed any of our original ideas.
After this being mentioned we decided to think of moreways of displaying the
genre of our trailer is horror (for example through iconography and
contrapuntalsound) and it also made us think about other ways wecan help
2. our work evolve, for example by making a clearer link between the film name
and narrative.
