2. Today We Will
– Review the parish vision and implementation strategies
– Reflect on the presence of Christ in the Mass and how it
shapes us to live and grow in our faith as disciples
– Review Mass procedures
9. Prayer of
St Teresa of Avila
Carmelite
Christ has no body now on earth but
yours,
no hands but yours,
no feet but yours,
yours are the eyes through which
Christ's compassion
is to look out to the earth,
yours are the feet by which He is to
go about doing good
and yours are the hands by which He
is to bless us now.
11. Being the
Body of ChristWould you understand the body of Christ? Hear the
Apostle saying to the faithful: ‘You are the body and
members of Christ.’ If, then, you are Christ’s body and his
members, it is your own mystery which you receive. It is to
what you are that you reply ‘Amen,’ and by replying
subscribe. For you are told, ‘The Body of Christ,’ and you
reply, ‘Amen.’ Be a member of the body of Christ and let
your ‘Amen’ be true.
St Augustine
13. What is the Body of Christ?
– How do we share the Body of Christ with others:
- Within the liturgy?
- Beyond the liturgy?
– What does saying “Amen” really mean?
16. The Rite of Peace
– Ministers participate in the
rite
- This is the ritual focus
- Part of the assembly
- Model participation
– Ministers move once they
have shared a sign of peace
with those around them
17. The Fraction
– Ministers of Communion
stand back in the sanctuary
– The focus is on the Priest
breaking bread at the altar
– Ministers approach the altar
once the priest receives
communion
18. The Distribution of Communion
– Maintain a sense of
reverence
– Convey a sense of warmth
and welcome
– Take note of those
requiring assistance
19. After Communion
– Vessels are returned to the credence table
- Remaining hosts returned to altar first
– Ministers return to their seats
– Altar Servers clear the altar
- Ministers assist at the altar and tabernacle only if required
– Ministers are asked to help clean and put away vessels
after Mass
Discussion questions (from BOBOSC discussion material):
..What are the implications here for me as an individual and for us as the People of God – our local parish community?
..How can I/we further explore the possibilities and opportunities opened up here?
Don’t hesitate in coming forward
Don’t wait for the priest if he wanders
Stand back – let priest and servers to their job
Assistance is needed in the sacristy after Mass – especially for consuming remaining wine
