The history of education in Estonia dates
back to the 14th century when the first
cathedral schools were founded.
The first university was established in the
year 1632- The University of Tartu. University
courses were first taught in Estonian in the
year 1919.
The University of Tartu is shown on the next
slide.

One of the biggest contributors to our
education system was Bengt Gottfried
Forselius.
He established the first educational
institution where students were given
lectures in the Estonian language mixed with
some Latin.
5.
He also republished the purified version of
the Estonian alphabet.
That was a big accomplishment because the
ability to write had a massive growth in our
society.

The education system is divided into four levels
which include the pre-school, basic, secondary
and higher education.
When you graduate from pre-school you usually
go straight to an educational institution , where
you will be taught basic education. This goes
from 1st to 9th grade.
Attending secondary school isn’t mandatory.
You can choose between a course, where you
can either learn a set of skills for a particular job,
or you can attend secondary school which goes
from 10th to 12th grade.
8.
Surprisingly only 18% of students who
graduate from basic education end up in
secondary school.
The rest simply choose work over school or
they start studying in a vocational school
which means a special school of a specific
profession e.g if you want to become a bus
driver you should attend the offical school
logistics and transport in Estonia (obviously)

10.
After you graduate from secondary school
you can pretty much do anything you want
with your life.
The most common path that graduates
choose is higher education (university), or
work or again a vocational school.
11.
There are usually two types of schools for
higher education estonia.
Universities and Higher Schools of Applied
sciences.
A three year studying course in a university
gives you a Bachelros Degree, obtaining a
Masters Degree takes two more years.
Getting a diploma in a school of applied
sciences usually takes 3 years.
12.
Every estonian civillian has a right and a
responsibility to get a nine year education
free (that occurs only in public schools).
Basically if you are smart and industrious
enough you can also obtain your university
education free.
Estonia has got quite a remarkable
educational system.
