INTRODUCTION: Augmented reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real- world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS. AR is a type of virtual reality that aims to copy the world’s environment in a computer. or Augmented reality is a technology to superimpose digital information into real sense. 3
  4. 4. TYPES OF AUGMENTED REALITY (AR):  1) Marker-based AR.  2) Marker-less AR.  3) Location based AR. 4

Marker-based AR:  This can be achieved by placing a distinctive picture or shape on the page.  That picture will be recognised and the animation can start immediately, tracked to the appropriate place on the page.  The user can also move the physical book around and see the virtual world “stick” to the real surface of the page.  Images with lots of corners and edges work especially well.  Typical examples include any print media, such as logos, packaging, posters or brochures 5
  6. 6. Markerless AR:  For this the user needs to decide where to place the virtual object.  The interaction here is the game-play, and the user does not need to worry about the location of the virtual objects.  Typically this means virtual objects will appear to “float” in mid-air. 6

LOCATION BASED AR:  Imagine walking in a city street you’re not familiar with your surrounding and through your phone’s camera seeing a virtual road sign displaying the street name, this is location based AR.  And exactly what our AR City app provides, it also allows you to navigate to your destination with directions displayed right on top of the physical roads in front of you. You might also be familiar with a simpler example of location based AR – Pokemon Go. 7

APPLICATIONS : Augmented reality for car repair: 1.1) Mechanic – AR Car Repair App Using your smart phone or tablet, you can view handy AR graphics overlaid onto your real-world engine in real-time, helping you pinpoint important aspects for maintenance. The app helps you check oil and coolant levels, while guiding you to refill fluids and restart a dead battery. 10
  11. 11. 1.2)Genesis AR Manual  Releasing an AR app to replace its conventional owners’ manual should come as no surprise.  The AR capabilities allow the user to point their smart phone or tablet at the engine and receive step-by-step instructions to help check the oil level or top up washer fluid.  The app is compatible with the 2017 G80 and G90 models.  And the app also contains a full electronic version of the manual, saving the company on print and paper costs. 11

Advantages of Augmented Reality (AR): ➨It reduces line between real world and virtual world. ➨It can be used by anyone as per applications. ➨It enhances perceptions and interactions with the real world. ➨It can be applied to part of training programs as it makes things memorable and eye catching. ➨It plays a vital role in saving the paper and its cost. ➨It can save money by testing critical situations in order to confirm their success without actually implementing in real time. Once it is proven, it can be implemented in real world. 15

PARTICIPANTS: 1) Boeing To assist engineers installing electrical wiring on an aircraft, Boeing developed and tested its own AR technology to provide real-time, hands-free, interactive 3D wiring diagrams right before engineer's eyes. 2)Bosch Bosch discovered that the use of AR applications achieved a time savings of 15 percent and allowed mechanics to see the location of hidden components along with instructions and repair guides. This helps to avoid undertaking any unnecessary disassembly and assembly work. 3) AccuVein In the medical sector, AccuVein is an AR handheld device that allows nurses and doctors to scan a patient’s body to make a vein appear visible. 18
