2. If the topic of our presentations is
“Sportive Russia,” I can’t help saying
some words about one of the greatest
events which was held in the city
of Kazan , Tatarstan. The 27 th Summer
Universiade took place in Kazan on
July, 6 - 17 and set up records on many
positions. This fact gives the right to speak
about it as the greatest event in the history
of modern sports movement.
3. Records of the XXVII Summer Universiade
27 kinds of sport
351 sets of medals
11778 athletes from 162 countries
64 sports venues
800 000 spectators
150 000 guests and tourists
1500 journalists
20 000 volunteers
4. Our main pride is our team of athletes
They won a total of 292 medals,
155 of which are gold,
75 – silver and 62 bronze.
The Russian team set the largest number of
records – 38;
9 Russian national records were broken at
the Games.
It is impossible to mention the names of
our winners but all of them deserve our
love and respect.
The brightest moments of our victories
watch here
5. Volunteers were at the centre of all
events. They helped everywhere.
As for me, I had a unique chance
to join the team of volunteers and
to witness this great sports event. I
worked in the Universiade village
in the house which hosted the
delegations of Great Britain and
Ireland. So, as a teacher of
English, it was a wonderful
opportunity for me to
communicate with native speakers
and to practise the language.
6. London 2012
80 regions of Russia sent their athletes to participate
in these Games. As a volunteer I represented Samara
region and I’d like to tell you about Irina Zabludina,
the participant of judo competitions from our region. I
admire this pretty young lady with strong character
and iron willpower. Her career began in 2006 when
she became a world championship winner in judo.
Now she takes part in all important events including
world Championships and the Olympic Games. Her
latest achievements are bronze medals in Budapest
European Championship (April, 2013) and in Kazan
Summer Universiade (July, 2013)
7. This Universiade was not a “gift” of the FISU : Kazan has won the right
to host the Universiade Games. We cannot say that this might be the best
Universiade that has ever been undertaken. This is the best ever summer
Universiade.”
Claude – Louis Gallien, the president of FISU
