TEAM TIPS AND ROLES
Now that you’ve been assigned to a team, here are some “tips” for a
successful experience.
1. Establish a timeline for your project (s). Remember in an online course…
time flies, and you don’t want to fall behind the “power curve.”
2. In establishing the timeline also establish who does what…responsibilities
for the project. Remember, everyone has to participate equally…. there can
be no observers in this process.
3. Also, in establishing your timeline, determine what is acceptable
performance by an individual team member AND what you’ll do if you do
have a problem.
4. Stay on your timeline!!! If you have a responsibility…fulfill it.
5. Make sure you all have an equal voice in the project…no team member is
“more equal” than another.
6. Remember, things will take a little longer in an online project than if you
have face-to-face meetings…plan your timeline accordingly.
7. Check into your team/group folder or discussion board every time you log
into class.
8. Make sure all communication is posted in the team/group folder or
discussion board. If you use an alternative method of communication, such
as a conference call or web chat, post a transcript of all communications in
the appropriate area.
9. Do not include anyone's name on the title page of an assignment if they do
not significantly participate in the project. They may receive a zero for the
assignment if their name is not on the title page.
10. Swap phone numbers and alternative email addresses with team
members in case of server down time or an emergency.

11. Plan a fake deadline – get the assignment done ahead of time to fine-tune
it or in case of an emergency.
12. Above all, be respectful of your teammates. Always be professional.
