Film and Video Production:
Becoming the Future of the Silver Screen
Every so often a movie is released with such tense anticipation and glamorous visual art that the
public is drawn to this dramatic rendition of life in the theatre. For even just two hours or so, you
are put into a different lifestyle. Action, drama or comedy it may be. We are thrust into a different
way of thinking. We are forced to learn the characters thoughts and feelings. Thehard work and
artistic skill that goes into these magnificent films is not an easy thing to mimic. Out of the
thousands of movies released worldwide each year only a handful are truly worthy of the label film
art. Most of the great movies are either produced by a multi million dollar...show more content...
Even if one plans on becoming a director and not a screenwriter one needs to know what kind of
scripts to look for. This is very important for a beginning small movie director since the reader will
most likely be writing their own scripts to get some recognition. A script is a document that
outlines every aural, visual, behavioral, and lingual element required to tell a story, according to
the dictionary definition at www.Wikidpedia.org. It is crucial to remember that film is a visual
medium. One doesn't tell the audience the story, one shows them. So what one will be writing is
not a novel but more like explaining a dream on paper. One must learn to write a screenplay
visually. As famed director Darren Aronofsky said in an interview with a struggling screenwriter
trying to get published,
"Most of what one writes that doesn't work on screen will just be improvised on the movie set".
There are many important requirements for screenplays that may seem like minutia at first glance
but the format of ones script is extremely important
since it will be submitted along with hundreds of others to one producer. For example, the main font
in use in the U.S. by both publishers and the Hollywood film industry is Courier 12 pitch According
to AFI (American Film Industry) the basics of screenwriting. Though this seems unimportant, when
a publisher is looking at a manuscript he is going to look for things

Outline And Outline Of A Thesis Essay
1.Thesis: I think your thesis is strong and obvious throughout your paper. So I don't think that will
be something you need to change dramatically. Instead, I think the main thing you should focus on
for Draft 2 is organizing your paper so it is all supporting information for your thesis. In both your
background and analysis section, ask yourself whether the information is there to support your thesis
or whether it a secondary point. If it is a secondary point, then I probably wouldn't include it.
2.Organization: I would encourage you to try and increase your use of both umbrella paragraphs and
topic/thesis sentences. Generally, at the beginning of each section or subsection, you should have an
umbrella/roadmap paragraph to explain what is to come. That way a reader really understanding
where you are going and how things fit together. Same with topic/thesis sentences. From a structural
point of view, your background may end up being a bit long. Youwant your background to be shorter
than your analysis section. At your current fourteen pages, you may want to watch out for the
background section overshadowing the analysis section. I think there is some room to cut, but you
are going to have to figure out what it ends up being important to your thesis, and what is noise that
is only related to your thesis.
3.Background: I think you are off to a good start with your background section. I would consider
providing more organization or context for the section on the PLCAA. As

An Introduction to Business Essay
An Introduction to Business
Business plays a major role within our society. It is a creative and competitive activity that
continuously contributes to the shaping of our society. By satisfying the needs and wants people
cannot satisfy themselves, businesses improve the quality of life for people and create a higher
standard of living.
It is a way for individuals to provide goods and services to consumers, and at the same time, produce
a profit for themselves. Businesses are not only important because they provide goods and services
for consumers, but they also improve the economy and increase jobs for people within society
which is an additional fact producing a higher standard of living. To measure our societies standard of

Finally, the conservation of energy is so that there are a sufficient amount of natural resources
necessary to produce goods. General economic growth or stagnation also has an important influence
on business within our society. Many factors can affect it's condition, such as war, new inventions
and technology, political assassinations, the discovery of physical and natural resources, labor
negotiations, government action, and many others. When the economy is strong and the demand is
high, businesses can prosper. Regardless of how great the economy may become, businesses still
must compete with other firms for scarce raw materials and labor.
A businesses environment creates many opportunities as well as problems for prospering businesses.
The environment determines what a business can do by shaping and channeling its development.
Businesses function within an environment by allowing entrepreneurs to raise capital and create
profits freely. The supply of money available within a business as well as the economic stability
through times of growth and recession have strong effects on businesses. Not only is the physical
environment, including natural resources, pollution and energy as discussed previously, important,
but many other

management services to protect customers. Insurers charge a premium for coverage against specific
risks including motor vehicle accidents, house fires, illnesses, etc. In the event of an accident,
insurance companies are required to pay for damages according to policy contracts. According to
Allstate Insurance: Building Relationships through Email Campaigns case study, "Insurance may be
the only product that people buy that they hope they will never use," (Tarter, Caravella, & Zahay).
The insurance industry has grown to be largely competitive, and has reached the heights of $140.1
billion within the United States. (Tarter, et al.). Insurance companies compete for customers based
on coverage, price, service, reliability and stability. "Reputation is everything," (Tarter, et al.).

Introduction to Psychology Essay examples
Introduction to Psychology The concern about life is a main human characteristic. No matter if his
concern is concentrated in himself or in persons or things that surround him and constitute his
environment, everybody wants to know why people, himself included, behave the way they
behave. Everybody, also, wants to improve his behavior, so as to live in harmony with himself and
the society. The Greek word Psychology, is a word consisted of the words
ψυχή–soul and λόγος–utterance, talk. So,
generally, psychology is the science that examines the soul. But , since the psychologists work on
the problems of the personal, family, school, professional and social life, we could say, more...show

The heartbeats, the movements of our head are behavior. The way we eat, the way we drink, the
way we walk, we talk, are behavior. The construction of a bridge, the composition of a song are
behavior. The fantasies of a child, the dreams of a adolescent, the illusions of an alcoholic are
behavior. Although we are all familiar with human behavior, a little do we understand or we can
explain about it. Since our infancy we learn about behavior through the experiences and the
knowledge that we get by observing other people or having relations with them. Living in society
leads us to watch and try to explain the way people behave. But that is not always easy. Sometimes
we cannot understand even ourselves. Psychology comes to give answers to all this uncertainty.
Therefore, according to modern psychology, the term behavior means all the conscious,
unconscious, verbal, mental and kinetic expressions of ourselves. Psychology uses statistic
researches so as to distinguish the normal behavior from the abnormal one. Such a thing is very
difficult because every society has its own behavior standards, and, consequently, an act that is
normal according to one society, may be abnormal according to another. For example, polygamy is
not permitted in Europe, but it is permitted in certain societies in Africa. So, the judgement of a
behavior must bear in mind the social environment in which it takes place .

Aesthetics Essays
Aesthetics Kant defined aesthetic as both, "the analysis of taste and the analysis of sensible
cognition or intuition" . Aesthesis, means "sensation", the Greeks made a distinction between
aesthesis autophues (natural sensation) and aesthesis epistemonike (acquired sensation). We may
say that aesthetics is both the study of aesthetic objects and of the specific and subjective reactions
of observers, readers, or audiences to the work of art. Aesthetics is necessarily interdisciplinary and
may be interpretive, prescriptive, descriptive, or a combination of these.
The big, obvious question about aesthetic value is whether it is ever 'really in' the objects it is
attributed to. This issue parallels the realism/anti–realism debates...show more content...
The third factor in aesthetic response is thought to be 'disinterestedness'. The idea is that the
pleasurable experience of attending to something in perception should not consist in liking a thing
only because it fulfills some definite function, satisfies a desire, or lives up to a prior standard or
principle.
There are subjective responses which we are justified in demanding from others: these are not
idiosyncratic likes and dislikes, but deeply rooted in our common nature as experiencing subjects,
and founded on a pleasurable response to the form of the object as it is presented in perception. This
means, among other things, "aesthetic value cannot be enshrined in learnable principles". There are
no genuine aesthetic principles, because to find aesthetic value we must, "get a look at the object
with our own eyes". Aesthetic judgments are founded upon the slender basis of one's own feeling of
pleasure, but can justifiably claim the universal agreement if the subjective response in question is
one that which any properly equipped observer would have.
Sometimes it is assumed that the prime interest in art is aesthetic, but that assumption bears some
examination. Unless "aesthetic stretches to cover everything conceivable that is of value in art, art
may have values which are not

Diamonds Essay
Diamonds
Introduction For centuries, cultures have regarded diamonds as beautiful, magical, mysterious, and
powerful. These precious stones have been sought after, fought over, and worshiped. Diamonds are
associated with wealth, achievement, status, and love. The meaning and rarity of diamonds brings
about much to consider when making a purchase. The rough gemstones must first be mined and cut.
Once cut, diamonds are appraised to determine their value. Some of them undergo treatments to
augment their appearance. Diamonds progress through these processes to be transformed into
beautiful valuable pieces of personal adornment.

The extraction of the diamond from the concentrate was formerly done by hand. Extraction from the
matrix is now done by putting the concentrate on a vibrating belt greased with fatty substances that
are adhesive to diamonds. Further separation is done by optical selection with the use of photocells
and x–ray technologies. On average one ton of diamond ore yields half a carat of diamond (one or
more diamonds adding up to less than the volume of a pencil eraser). (Levinson 246) Cutting
Once the rough gemstones are extracted, they must be evaluated. The evaluation determines whether
the diamonds are worth cutting for use in jewelry. Only about 20 percent of diamonds mined are
used for adornment purposes. The rest of them are ground up and used for grinding wheels,
glasscutters, milling cutters, and scientific purposes. The diamonds that are worth cutting are cut in
a myriad of styles and shapes. The brilliant cut is the most common, as shown in figure one.
Fig. 1. Brilliant cut diamond and ideal proportions; rpt. in GIA.
There are several steps to cutting and polishing a diamond. The laps (cutting wheels) used in the
process are all coated with diamond because the only material hard enough to cut diamond is another
diamond. First, the rough diamond is cleaved. This means that the gemstone is sawn to prepare it for
initial shaping. Once cleaved, the gem goes through the bruting process where it is given a shape

The American Dream Essay Intro
The best aspects from my essay were the intro and the use integrating quotes in the essay. I
believe that the intro was one of the best part because it followed the parts of a inverted pyramid
and that it grabs the reader and makes them want to read more. In the essay when it states
"Everyone has one dream or goal in life and there are certain characteristics one must possess to
achieve that dream, but things might get in the way of being able to achieve that dream", it makes
people think how is the american dream not achievable and what are the characteristics needed to try
to achieve the dream. This makes the reader want to continues to read. The use of intergrading
quotes was another thing that stood out in my essay. In examples such as, "At Rene's school his
class is sharing what they want to be when they are older and Rene shares with the class that he
would like to be an astronaut or an actor or a magician. His teacher responds to what he said...show

When I said "Although these pieces of evidence show that the American dream is achievable with
perseverance they are misleading because the American dream is not always achievable as
proven in the previous paragraphs", I was trying to make this my although claim and I felt as if I
could have made this a more prominent part of my essay to create a strong opposing paragraph. In
my conclusion i feel like i could have created a stronger closer by tying all the pieces of evidence
and saying something about how all of the show why the american dream in not guaranteed. Instead
I simply said "The characteristics needed to achieve the American Dream such as ambition,
opportunism and perseverance may help one achieve their dream, but it does not guarantee that they
will achieve their dream" I still think this is a pretty strong statement but it could have been

The broad area of interest initially identified was, "teenage pregnancy". While researching for
information on teenage pregnancy, findings showed that it was too broad as there were too many
sub–topics. For example, cultural differences, impacts on families, society and many more.
Therefore further research was conducted so that the area of interest could be narrowed down. The
topic was refined to "How does socio–economic factors of teenage pregnancy affect the mental

specific wordings and focused audience. According to the research done and information gathered

Essay about My Business Idea
My Business Idea
In my coursework I intend to start my own business. I will devise my own business plan which
outlines my business proposal and the key aspects, during this I will need to seek good business
advice on the necessary steps I will have to make. As I go through the coursework I will show
evidence, examples and explain how businesses are set up, what types of businesses there are and
their similarities, the kind of targets businesses set for themselves and also the different objectives of
different stakeholders. For my business I plan to sell toys and other game products that educate
young children under the age of 11.

Finance
=======
No businesses can be set up without finance. Most people who start their own business
underestimate the amount of money they will need to set up. They are often UNCAPITALISED
and this causes problems as the business expands. Some businesses have the potential to be highly
profitable but fail because they run out of cash at a crucial early stage in the life of the business. So
it is very important to work out how much money is needed to start the business and to identify
where the money will come from.

Most new businesses don not survive for more than three years of trading. However, their chance of
success is much greater if those setting up the business have received help from experts before the

bodies like the Prince's Trust. They can also organise training in setting up small businesses that is
so often vital to the survival of the business.

Child Trauma Essay
Child Trauma
Children experience trauma in different ways and most importantly through different eyes. A child's
temperament and personality can effect the traumatic outcome (if one) for the child.
Reactions to trauma may appear immediately after the traumatic event or days or even weeks later.
The symptoms of the traumatic reactions may be very individual and depend on the age of the child.
Very young children typically have a strong fear of being separated from their parents. They might
show behaviours of earlier developmental stages (regressive behaviour) like thumb–sucking,
bedwetting, or they cannot sleep alone in their beds anymore (fear of darkness)

Some adolescents try to self–medicate with alcohol and drugs to compensate for flashbacks and
major emotional disturbances.
Many children or adolescents are afraid to talk about their traumatic experiences, especially if close
relatives are involved. They may even feel extreme guilt over their failure to prevent the traumatic
event.
It is important for the children that have experienced trauma to relive the event. They may not be
able to at first but as time progresses and the child comes to understand the full perspective of what
happened, it will allow them to grab hold of the experience and deal with it in a way that works for
them. To refer to the "Myths of Childhood" video which contained a group of children that had been
on a hijacked bus, the children took some time, I believe the trauma was still affecting them in their
twenties. They had to deal with the situation and the trauma so that when they walked down the
street and heard a noise like a gunshot they wouldn't instantly panic and be revisited by old traumatic
events. But all of the children that were exposed to the trauma recovered slightly quicker or slower
due to their temperaments, personality and support they were all individually given.

The Importance of Integrity Essay
Integrity is how somebody lives their life. In this life we live, we face choices every day that only
we can answer. We dictate how we run our own lives, and they way we run them defines us.
Integrity is doing the right thing versus the wrong thing. People, if nothing else, can always have
their pride, their integrity. It is something that means a lot to some people and then nothing to
others. The ones who value their integrity highly are the good people in this world, and the
opposite is true for those who do not value their integrity. Integrity has been defined as "Moral
soundness; honesty; freedom from corrupting influence or motive" by a good friend of mine and
college graduate. The dictionary describes it as "Unimpaired,...show more content...
If we're all forced to comply, we would have a much safer world. Nobody forces us to do anything,
and that is the point. Our personal integrity can only be formed by one person: ourselves. Nobody
can control out integrity. They can try to sway it (and they do almost daily), but they can not
change it unless we allow it to be changed. Integrity is absolutely vital to a community. If a
community as a whole, coherent, machine does not have morals, it will be a very bad
community. The people in it will not flourish, the kids will grow up bad, and it will be a
continuous cycle of immorality. Is a community has no integrity, it brings down the whole area
around it. We tend to define this as "the bad part of town." Integrity is very important on a college
campus. College is a synonym for the word "freedom." You live on your own, and the only people
you answer to is the school or the police. So it is up to you to make the decisions that are right for
your life. Because even more so in college, where you live with your friends, are there choices to
be made every single day. And they all could effect your life. Without integrity on a college
campus, you have anarchy, because there are very few consequences in most situations. If there is
a huge party and somebody decides he wants to do something bad, usually it is impossible to tell
who did it because it is a party and there are usually a lot of things going on. Obviously, one of the

any test I take.
The biggest learning experience to me so far is life itself. I feel that way because there is so much to

The Vikings Viking History The Vikings were a group of Scandinavian raiders that were around
from about the 8th century to the 11th. They mainly attacked the British Islands , the Frankish

Vikings did not always settle into the places that they found, for instance after exploring North
America they left the place never to return again. Even so, after landing on Greenland they
colonized themselves there, and ancestors of the Vikings still live there today. So now that you

Turges sacrificed the Irish kings Armagh and Clonmacnois, to Thor, a Viking god. The Vikings

Successful Marketing Strategies Essay
Marketing is a vital component in the success of businesses. Smaller businesses rely on business
advertising, expenses, knowing if the business is networking with the right people, or joining the
best organisations which lead to success (EStartup business blog, 2010). Marketing concentrates on
customers and what the customers want. Customers are the source of sales and profits. Many small
businesses are faced with remarkable hardships due to not developing the right marketing plan
(EStartup business blog, 2010). To help these businesses a more appropriate or better marketing plan
needs to be designed. Small business internet marketing services can help businesses develop and
thrive in a highly competitive market. For the highest quality...show more content...
As the economy and social attitudes change, so do buying patterns (EStartup business blog, 2010).
Businesses need to identify whether the number of target customers is growing or shrinking and
whether their buying habits will change in the future (EStartup business blog, 2010).
Subway is a franchise business that has been using many strategies of marketing and is now a
successful business in Australia. Subway started as a single outlet in the city of Perth, Australia in
1987. Hard work has seen Subway become one of the most successful fast food franchises in
Australia (Subway–target market, 2007). Its target market is people who like to eat fresh and
healthy food, most importantly young Australians who prefer healthy fast food instead of burgers
and fries (Subway–target market, 2007).
Also, Subway's advertising tagline is "Subway – eat fresh". This tagline is the most important part of
marketing while advertising the business. This targets the people who are looking for fresh food
and also for people who don't want to eat junk food but want fast food (Subway–target market, 2007).
Another example of business that has been using successful marketing strategies is McDonalds;
McDonald's is one of the best known brands worldwide (McDonald's Corporation, 2008). Successful
marketing has been described by McDonalds as identifying customer needs and requirements and

Redemption Essay
The literal definition of the word "redemption" is the act, process, or an instance of redeeming
(forgiven). When I as a human being think of redemption I think of it as a way to accept, forgive
and move on after an instance of extreme, usually emotional, infliction. When we think of this in
terms of prison, humans are put into isolation where they are given ample time to logically think
of these trespasses and how they are paying for it with their lives. At the same time these people
are doing very manual labor while getting 'paid' very little in order to redeem themselves to
hopefully regain some rank again in society. In life where most of us live outside walls redemption
comes in many different forms, although not all as painful....show more content...
When I myself am witness to acts of injustice my first reaction is usually anger, frustration which
is then followed by a very vocal complaint. The same reactions come about when I myself am put
under circumstances of injustice and I can only hope, but am not certain, that this is something
regularly occurs with humans in general. I would have to say that some of the factors that
contribute to the ways that I respond to injustice would be feelings that had occurred as a child
when put into unjust situations as well as knowledge that I was given while growing up in both
educational institutions as well as living in general. While I watched the movie Shawshank
Redemption I witness an idea developed mainly by Stephen King that basically gave me hope by
helping me see that due to what I call karma, the people that are exaggerating unjust behavior will
eventually get what is coming to them. This is displayed well by the showing of all the ignorant
behavior put on by the warden and what happened to him in the end. In our society taking away a
persons freedom is considered justice because at this point these people do not have a choice. The
choices that they have made so far have only gotten them into trouble, now they have given that up
and are subjected to be treated basically like a slave. Solitary confinement is considered the most
severe punishment that we can inflict in our justice system as

Film and video production Essay Film and Video Production: Becoming the Future of the Silver Screen Every so often a movie is released with such tense anticipation and glamorous visual art that the public is drawn to this dramatic rendition of life in the theatre. For even just two hours or so, you are put into a different lifestyle. Action, drama or comedy it may be. We are thrust into a different way of thinking. We are forced to learn the characters thoughts and feelings. Thehard work and artistic skill that goes into these magnificent films is not an easy thing to mimic. Out of the thousands of movies released worldwide each year only a handful are truly worthy of the label film art. Even if one plans on becoming a director and not a screenwriter one needs to know what kind of scripts to look for. This is very important for a beginning small movie director since the reader will most likely be writing their own scripts to get some recognition. A script is a document that outlines every aural, visual, behavioral, and lingual element required to tell a story, according to the dictionary definition at www.Wikidpedia.org. It is crucial to remember that film is a visual medium. One doesn't tell the audience the story, one shows them. So what one will be writing is not a novel but more like explaining a dream on paper. One must learn to write a screenplay visually. As famed director Darren Aronofsky said in an interview with a struggling screenwriter trying to get published, "Most of what one writes that doesn't work on screen will just be improvised on the movie set". There are many important requirements for screenplays that may seem like minutia at first glance but the format of ones script is extremely important since it will be submitted along with hundreds of others to one producer. For example, the main font in use in the U.S. by both publishers and the Hollywood film industry is Courier 12 pitch According to AFI (American Film Industry) the basics of screenwriting. • 2. Outline And Outline Of A Thesis Essay 1.Thesis: I think your thesis is strong and obvious throughout your paper. So I don't think that will be something you need to change dramatically. Instead, I think the main thing you should focus on for Draft 2 is organizing your paper so it is all supporting information for your thesis. In both your background and analysis section, ask yourself whether the information is there to support your thesis or whether it a secondary point. If it is a secondary point, then I probably wouldn't include it. 2.Organization: I would encourage you to try and increase your use of both umbrella paragraphs and topic/thesis sentences. Generally, at the beginning of each section or subsection, you should have an umbrella/roadmap paragraph to explain what is to come. That way a reader really understanding where you are going and how things fit together. Same with topic/thesis sentences. From a structural point of view, your background may end up being a bit long. Youwant your background to be shorter than your analysis section. At your current fourteen pages, you may want to watch out for the background section overshadowing the analysis section. I think there is some room to cut, but you are going to have to figure out what it ends up being important to your thesis, and what is noise that is only related to your thesis. 3.Background: I think you are off to a good start with your background section. I would consider providing more organization or context for the section on the PLCAA. As Get more content on HelpWriting.net

It is a creative and competitive activity that continuously contributes to the shaping of our society. By satisfying the needs and wants people cannot satisfy themselves, businesses improve the quality of life for people and create a higher standard of living. It is a way for individuals to provide goods and services to consumers, and at the same time, produce a profit for themselves. Businesses are not only important because they provide goods and services for consumers, but they also improve the economy and increase jobs for people within society which is an additional fact producing a higher standard of living. General economic growth or stagnation also has an important influence on business within our society. Many factors can affect it's condition, such as war, new inventions and technology, political assassinations, the discovery of physical and natural resources, labor negotiations, government action, and many others. When the economy is strong and the demand is high, businesses can prosper. Regardless of how great the economy may become, businesses still must compete with other firms for scarce raw materials and labor. A businesses environment creates many opportunities as well as problems for prospering businesses. The environment determines what a business can do by shaping and channeling its development. Businesses function within an environment by allowing entrepreneurs to raise capital and create profits freely. No matter if his concern is concentrated in himself or in persons or things that surround him and constitute his environment, everybody wants to know why people, himself included, behave the way they behave. Everybody, also, wants to improve his behavior, so as to live in harmony with himself and the society. The Greek word Psychology, is a word consisted of the words ψυχή–soul and λόγος–utterance, talk. So, generally, psychology is the science that examines the soul. The heartbeats, the movements of our head are behavior. The way we eat, the way we drink, the way we walk, we talk, are behavior. The construction of a bridge, the composition of a song are behavior. The fantasies of a child, the dreams of a adolescent, the illusions of an alcoholic are behavior. Although we are all familiar with human behavior, a little do we understand or we can explain about it. Since our infancy we learn about behavior through the experiences and the knowledge that we get by observing other people or having relations with them. Living in society leads us to watch and try to explain the way people behave. But that is not always easy. Sometimes we cannot understand even ourselves. Psychology comes to give answers to all this uncertainty. Therefore, according to modern psychology, the term behavior means all the conscious, unconscious, verbal, mental and kinetic expressions of ourselves. Psychology uses statistic researches so as to distinguish the normal behavior from the abnormal one. Such a thing is very difficult because every society has its own behavior standards, and, consequently, an act that is normal according to one society, may be abnormal according to another. For example, polygamy is not permitted in Europe, but it is permitted in certain societies in Africa. So, the judgement of a behavior must bear in mind the social environment in which it takes place . Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Aesthesis, means "sensation", the Greeks made a distinction between aesthesis autophues (natural sensation) and aesthesis epistemonike (acquired sensation). We may say that aesthetics is both the study of aesthetic objects and of the specific and subjective reactions of observers, readers, or audiences to the work of art. Aesthetics is necessarily interdisciplinary and may be interpretive, prescriptive, descriptive, or a combination of these. The big, obvious question about aesthetic value is whether it is ever 'really in' the objects it is attributed to. This issue parallels the realism/anti–realism debates...show more content... The third factor in aesthetic response is thought to be 'disinterestedness'. The idea is that the pleasurable experience of attending to something in perception should not consist in liking a thing only because it fulfills some definite function, satisfies a desire, or lives up to a prior standard or principle. There are subjective responses which we are justified in demanding from others: these are not idiosyncratic likes and dislikes, but deeply rooted in our common nature as experiencing subjects, and founded on a pleasurable response to the form of the object as it is presented in perception. This means, among other things, "aesthetic value cannot be enshrined in learnable principles". There are no genuine aesthetic principles, because to find aesthetic value we must, "get a look at the object with our own eyes". Aesthetic judgments are founded upon the slender basis of one's own feeling of pleasure, but can justifiably claim the universal agreement if the subjective response in question is one that which any properly equipped observer would have. Sometimes it is assumed that the prime interest in art is aesthetic, but that assumption bears some examination. Unless "aesthetic stretches to cover everything conceivable that is of value in art, art may have values which are not Get more content on HelpWriting.net

These precious stones have been sought after, fought over, and worshiped. Diamonds are associated with wealth, achievement, status, and love. The meaning and rarity of diamonds brings about much to consider when making a purchase. The rough gemstones must first be mined and cut. Once cut, diamonds are appraised to determine their value. Some of them undergo treatments to augment their appearance. Diamonds progress through these processes to be transformed into beautiful valuable pieces of personal adornment. Extraction from the matrix is now done by putting the concentrate on a vibrating belt greased with fatty substances that are adhesive to diamonds. On average one ton of diamond ore yields half a carat of diamond (one or more diamonds adding up to less than the volume of a pencil eraser). (Levinson 246) Cutting Once the rough gemstones are extracted, they must be evaluated. The evaluation determines whether the diamonds are worth cutting for use in jewelry. Only about 20 percent of diamonds mined are used for adornment purposes. The rest of them are ground up and used for grinding wheels, glasscutters, milling cutters, and scientific purposes. The diamonds that are worth cutting are cut in a myriad of styles and shapes. The brilliant cut is the most common, as shown in figure one. Fig. 1. Brilliant cut diamond and ideal proportions; rpt. in GIA. There are several steps to cutting and polishing a diamond. The laps (cutting wheels) used in the process are all coated with diamond because the only material hard enough to cut diamond is another diamond. First, the rough diamond is cleaved. Some businesses have the potential to be highly profitable but fail because they run out of cash at a crucial early stage in the life of the business. They might show behaviours of earlier developmental stages (regressive behaviour) like thumb–sucking, bedwetting, or they cannot sleep alone in their beds anymore (fear of darkness) Any change of social...show more content... Some adolescents try to self–medicate with alcohol and drugs to compensate for flashbacks and major emotional disturbances. Many children or adolescents are afraid to talk about their traumatic experiences, especially if close relatives are involved. They may even feel extreme guilt over their failure to prevent the traumatic event. It is important for the children that have experienced trauma to relive the event. They may not be able to at first but as time progresses and the child comes to understand the full perspective of what happened, it will allow them to grab hold of the experience and deal with it in a way that works for them. To refer to the "Myths of Childhood" video which contained a group of children that had been on a hijacked bus, the children took some time, I believe the trauma was still affecting them in their twenties. They had to deal with the situation and the trauma so that when they walked down the street and heard a noise like a gunshot they wouldn't instantly panic and be revisited by old traumatic events. But all of the children that were exposed to the trauma recovered slightly quicker or slower due to their temperaments, personality and support they were all individually given. • 15. The Importance of Integrity Essay Integrity is how somebody lives their life. In this life we live, we face choices every day that only we can answer. We dictate how we run our own lives, and they way we run them defines us. Integrity is doing the right thing versus the wrong thing. People, if nothing else, can always have their pride, their integrity. It is something that means a lot to some people and then nothing to others. The ones who value their integrity highly are the good people in this world, and the opposite is true for those who do not value their integrity. Integrity has been defined as "Moral soundness; honesty; freedom from corrupting influence or motive" by a good friend of mine and college graduate. The dictionary describes it as "Unimpaired,...show more content... If we're all forced to comply, we would have a much safer world. Nobody forces us to do anything, and that is the point. Our personal integrity can only be formed by one person: ourselves. Nobody can control out integrity. They can try to sway it (and they do almost daily), but they can not change it unless we allow it to be changed. Integrity is absolutely vital to a community. If a community as a whole, coherent, machine does not have morals, it will be a very bad community. The people in it will not flourish, the kids will grow up bad, and it will be a continuous cycle of immorality. Is a community has no integrity, it brings down the whole area around it. We tend to define this as "the bad part of town." Integrity is very important on a college campus. College is a synonym for the word "freedom." You live on your own, and the only people you answer to is the school or the police. So it is up to you to make the decisions that are right for your life. Because even more so in college, where you live with your friends, are there choices to be made every single day. And they all could effect your life. Without integrity on a college campus, you have anarchy, because there are very few consequences in most situations. If there is a huge party and somebody decides he wants to do something bad, usually it is impossible to tell who did it because it is a party and there are usually a lot of things going on. Obviously, one of the biggest Get more content on HelpWriting.net

My attitude in high school was bad because I really did not feel I was learning, so I took it for granted. I never thought that I would feel this way about learning because I never did appreciate it like I do now. I now actually yearn to learn; I feel that I need to learn new things. • 18. Essay about The Viking The Vikings Viking History The Vikings were a group of Scandinavian raiders that were around from about the 8th century to the 11th. They mainly attacked the British Islands , the Frankish empire, England, but they also plundered places such as the Iberian peninsula and northern Africa. Vikings did not always settle into the places that they found, for instance after exploring North America they left the place never to return again. Even so, after landing on Greenland they colonized themselves there, and ancestors of the Vikings still live there today. So now that you know a little about the history of the Vikings lets go into detail about the specifics of the Viking age. (Peter Sawyer, Oxford Ill. (Barnes & Noble New American Encyclopedia Vol. 19 p. 594 –596) The first Viking attack on Ireland was in 820, and like the monk's attacked in 793, the people of Ireland had no chance against the powerful Viking army. In the years following the first attack Viking's gained leadership, and by 839, a brave Viking chieftain named Turges, declared himself king of Ireland. Turges sacrificed the Irish kings Armagh and Clonmacnois, to Thor, a Viking god. The Vikings organized attacks very well, they set more and more extravagant goals, and soon met them. Their attacks on England were successful mostly because no one expected them. In May of 841, Danish Vikings led by a man named Asgeir sailed the River Seine, and they burnt the city Rouen to the ground. Next they moved into St. Denis, but decided that it was in their best interest not to provoke the passing Frankish army. But they went right back at it again in 842 they destroyed Quenstovic, the Frisian harbor town. In 845 they attacked the tri–divided Holy Roman Empire, all at the same time! Businesses need to identify whether the number of target customers is growing or shrinking and whether their buying habits will change in the future (EStartup business blog, 2010). Subway is a franchise business that has been using many strategies of marketing and is now a successful business in Australia. Subway started as a single outlet in the city of Perth, Australia in 1987. Hard work has seen Subway become one of the most successful fast food franchises in Australia (Subway–target market, 2007). Its target market is people who like to eat fresh and healthy food, most importantly young Australians who prefer healthy fast food instead of burgers and fries (Subway–target market, 2007). Also, Subway's advertising tagline is "Subway – eat fresh". This tagline is the most important part of marketing while advertising the business. • 21. Redemption Essay The literal definition of the word "redemption" is the act, process, or an instance of redeeming (forgiven). When I as a human being think of redemption I think of it as a way to accept, forgive and move on after an instance of extreme, usually emotional, infliction. When we think of this in terms of prison, humans are put into isolation where they are given ample time to logically think of these trespasses and how they are paying for it with their lives. At the same time these people are doing very manual labor while getting 'paid' very little in order to redeem themselves to hopefully regain some rank again in society. In life where most of us live outside walls redemption comes in many different forms, although not all as painful....show more content... When I myself am witness to acts of injustice my first reaction is usually anger, frustration which is then followed by a very vocal complaint. The same reactions come about when I myself am put under circumstances of injustice and I can only hope, but am not certain, that this is something regularly occurs with humans in general. I would have to say that some of the factors that contribute to the ways that I respond to injustice would be feelings that had occurred as a child when put into unjust situations as well as knowledge that I was given while growing up in both educational institutions as well as living in general. While I watched the movie Shawshank Redemption I witness an idea developed mainly by Stephen King that basically gave me hope by helping me see that due to what I call karma, the people that are exaggerating unjust behavior will eventually get what is coming to them. This is displayed well by the showing of all the ignorant behavior put on by the warden and what happened to him in the end. In our society taking away a persons freedom is considered justice because at this point these people do not have a choice. The choices that they have made so far have only gotten them into trouble, now they have given that up and are subjected to be treated basically like a slave. Solitary confinement is considered the most severe punishment that we can inflict in our justice system as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
