Coir fibre is extracted from the husk of coconuts and is used to make products like floor mats, doormats, brushes and mattresses. There are two types of coir fibre - white fibre extracted from unripe coconuts used for finer brushes and rope, and brown fibre from ripe coconuts used in upholstery, sacking and horticulture. To process coir, coconut husks are soaked and the fibres are pulled apart.
