Background
PeopleSoft continuously gathers feedback from its customers and periodically releases updates
to its software that are designed to improve and enhance the user experience. UVM’s
PeopleSoft systems are comprised of three components: applications, tools and databases.
Over the weekend of November 20th, the PeopleSoft systems will be upgraded to version 8.5 of
PeopleTools. While these upgrades will not change the functionality of the systems, there will be
minor changes to the look and behavior of the system. In addition, as explained below, there
are several new features that have been added. Give yourself time to become accustomed to
the changes.
PeopleSoft Menu Bar
The Menu Bar is the way in which users at UVM navigate the many
different sections and screens in PeopleSoft. It is made up of major
categories and various subcategories that can be expanded or collapsed by
clicking the “twisties” (triangles) to the left of each header.
PeopleTools 8.5 Enhancement
The Menu Bar packs a lot of information in a relatively small space. To
better differentiate the selected section from the rest of the menu items,
PeopleTools 8.5 has framed the white background with a light-blue bar to
the left. The highlighted area follows the user when expanding and
collapsing the various headings.
Searches: Maximum Number of Rows
Depending on the search criteria a user provides, PeopleSoft reports can potentially return
hundreds or thousands of lines of data. PeopleSoft automatically limits the number of rows it
displays to 300.
PeopleTools 8.5 Enhancement
Three hundred rows of information can be overwhelming and difficult to navigate. Users are now
able to specify the maximum number of rows that are returned (up to 300).

Lookup Fields: Type-Ahead
As PeopleSoft users, we have come to appreciate the fields the magnifying glass designates as
searchable. Prior to the PeopleTools upgrade, the user would click on the magnifying glass icon
to see a list of possible selections. As is the case with much of PeopleSoft, the more criteria you
provide, the narrower your results will be.
PeopleTools 8.5 Enhancement
PeopleTools 8.5 adds type-ahead functionality to fields with magnifying glasses next to them. As
you type, the system automatically provides an on-screen list of the possible entries. Users can
continue typing as they normally would, or they can make their selection directly from the list.
Turning off Type-Ahead Function
It is possible to turn off the new type-ahead functionality. This is done by user and is effective
everywhere within the module where the customization takes place. For users wishing to disable
the functionality in both Human Resources and Financials, repeat these steps for both modules.
1. Log into PeopleSoft normally and from the main menu, select My Personalizations.

2. Select Personalize User Options for Navigation Personalizations.
3. In the Type Ahead drop down box, select No.
4. Click OK.
Lookup Fields: Pop-Up Functions
Prior to the PeopleTools upgrade, when a user clicked the magnifying glass next to a lookup
field, PeopleSoft opened a new page with the search results. In PeopleTools 8.5 a Lookup Pop-
Up window appears instead of a new page. The background is grayed-out and full results (up to
300) are displayed on-screen without having to navigate away from the main search page.

Save Warning Pop-Up Window
Many PeopleSoft screens conveniently save the search criteria we enter when we click the Run
or Save buttons. When users attempt to navigate away from the search screen once a change
has been made without saving, PeopleSoft displays a Save Warning.
PeopleTools 8.5 Enhancement
To reduce the confusion between PeopleSoft warnings and the general warnings displayed by
your browser of choice (i.e. Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Internet Explorer), the Save Warning grays
out the screen and appears to the user with the familiar PeopleSoft design.

Auto Line Highlighting
Currently, PeopleSoft grids and tables are shaded with alternating light and dark colors to help
differentiate between rows of data.
PeopleTools 8.5 Enhancement
In addition to the dark/light row shading, PeopleTools 8.5 uses a light yellow color to highlight
the row over which the user places the mouse, making it easier to find the necessary
information.
Processing Indicator
Prior to the PeopleTools upgrade, the work Processing flashed in the upper, right corner of the
screen to indicate that PeopleSoft is working.
PeopleTools 8.5 Enhancement
PeopleTools 8.5 has replaced the flashing word Processing with a spinning graphic to indicate
that the system is working on a request.
Process Monitor Reports View
The Process Monitor is where users access the reports they run. The PeopleSoft default is to
display only one day of reports in the Process List, however the one day can be changed to a
maximum of 99 days. All reports that have been run within those 99 days are displayed.

PeopleTools 8.5 Enhancement
To provide users with a more comprehensive list of reports in the Process List, the maximum of
99 days has been extended to 9999 days.
In addition, users are able to choose a date range over which their reports will be displayed.
Object Error Pop-up Message
