Chapter 7: Canadian Quest Project
General Directions (Description):
Are ready to go on a Quest? Each of you has selected a location in Canada that you would be
possibly interested in seeing or traveling to. In this project you will be given the task of visually
presenting what your quest will look like including several key pieces of Geographic information
that we have been studying in chapter 7.
You’re Quest
Your journey to your location or Quest (Adventure) will require that you map out your
journey and describe what you will see along the way. The basic requirements of your
quest will include what is listed below:
A starting point. Once you have given your final location to Mr. Thirsten, you
will at the start of the project be given a location where you will start your
quest.
For your Quest you will need to travel through at least 3 CANADIAN
PROVINCES other than the Province that your destination location is in. This
will also need to include any States within the United States that you may have
to travel through to get to your destination.
Your Quest will need to include at minimum 5 STOPS, or points where you will
go through or stop at along your journey. As you plot your journey (Quest),
you will need to plan your route such that you go through each of your stops.
You will be given a starting point. The States, Provinces, or Territories you
travel through and the stops you make will be your choice.
Your Journey will have to be made in such a way that you are able to reach
your destination via an acceptable method of transportation. These will
include:
a. By roadway that is able to be identified on a map.
b. By a railway that is marked on a map.
c. By air via a private or public plane service.

Project Options:
For your project you will be presenting a visual journey of your quest. To do this you may
elect to do so in either of the two project options listed below:
1. A Project Poster using a provided piece of Poster Board. For this option, you
will be creating visuals of maps, text information, pictures, or other visual
symbols that will represent points along your quest.
2. A Power Point Presentation that will visually present your quest and will
include as with a poster maps, text information, pictures, or other visual
symbols that will represent points along your quest.
WHAT DO I NEED TO INCLUDE IN MY QUEST?
1. A map or series of maps that will visually identify the route your quest will take. This
should include:
a. Where your Quest will start. Make sure you identify on a map picture or
graphic the exact point you are starting from.
b. What each of your 5 stops along the route of your quest are. Again, you need
to identify on a map where these are by name and location.
c. What each of the required Canadian Provinces are and the States, if you are
travelling through the United States. These need to be identified or labeled on
a map.
2. What is the METHOD of transportation you are using? You need to provide the details
of your route that includes specific roadways, States, Provinces, direction, and where
you are changing from roadways to Air, or to railways. These should be labeled
somewhere in your visuals by a map or some other type of picture.
3. How far you will travel on your quest in terms of total miles and how long in terms of
days it will take you. Make sure you identify how many miles are between each of
your stops. If you plan your trip correctly, it should take you between 5-7 days or
approximately one stop per day. Use a standard of travelling no more than 500 miles
per day. For some of you this will mean a longer trip in terms of days.

4. Your visual presentation should label or include text that identifies or labels
geographic information on your stops and your destination that includes:
At least three different bodies of water or Land forms that we have covered in
class that you will see along your journey. There should be no more than one
physical feature identified per stop that you make on your journey. Both
Canada and the United States have many different physical geographic
features. Your task will be to identify the ones you will see on your quest.
These must be identifiable on a map.
What is the language of the people are at your destination point? You will
need to research this information.
What are two other cultural features of your destination location? This may
include special activities or celebrations, recreational activities, religious
festivals, heritage information about the native population of the location, etc.
What is the population of the location you have identified as the destination of
your quest?
What is the major economic activity that your destination location is known for?
This could include an industry, a product, a service, natural resources, or a
marketplace that the location is known for.
The location specifics of each of your stops and in particular your destination
location. This should include what its title or name is, what State, Province, or
Territory it is located in. It should also include what the absolute location is,
what it borders or other relative geography of the location.
Your Presentation will include you presenting your quest to the class you are in.
Therefore, it should include:
1. All required stops, locations, and information outlined in this handout.
2. Be visually attractive. Posters should be neat and easy to read. Use of color,
pictures, maps, and other visual cues will be a MUST!! Poster Board will be
provided for you.
3. A map of your route detailing each of your stops with labels on geographic
information on the stops along your route is a MUST!!
4. Use Color, text boxes, text bubbles, be creative—BUT MAKE SURE YOU
INCLUDE THE REQUIRED INFORMATION. DON’T CONCENTRATE SOLELY ON
PICTURES AND COLOR AT THE EXPENSE OF NOT PRESENTING ACCURATE
INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT YOU WILL SEE ON YOUR QUEST.
**WE WILL BE WORKING ON THIS DURING THE WEEK OF MARCH 11-15.
PRESENTATIONS WILL TAKE PLACE DURING THE WEEK OF MARCH 18-22.
