To forgive does not mean forgetting the past; it means refusing to repeat it. To forgive is to change the course of history. It is to raise up those who have fallen. It is to accept the idea that no one is perfect and that everyone, not just myself, has the right to make a new start.
Those who forgive bring Jesus even to places where he is not welcomed; they bring love to places where love is rejected. Those who forgive build the future

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you” (Jer 1:5). We who have been called to be shepherds of God’s People, to rely on this closeness of the Lord, “to form ourselves in prayer”, and to spend a good deal of time in his presence.

And witness, since the Church’s pastors must first and foremost be credible, particularly in their work of fostering communion, in their moral life and in their administration of goods.
