  3. MEETING WITH YOUNG PEOPLE AND CATECHISTS Martyrs’ Stadium (Kinshasa) - Wednesday, 2 February 2023
  4. Those who pray grow inwardly; they are able to lift their gaze on high and to remember that we are made for heaven.
  5. The Holy Spirit is the driving force of peace, the true power of peace. That is why prayer is the most powerful weapon there is. It brings you the consolation and hope that come from God. It always opens up new possibilities and helps you overcome all your fears
  6. Life in community is the way to make us feel good about ourselves and to be faithful to our true calling.
  7. try to spend time together and experience the beauty of letting others amaze you with their stories and their experiences. - hold hands with whoever is beside you. Imagine yourselves as one Church, a single people.
  8. Blessed Isidore Bakanja, Blessed Marie-Clémentine Anuarite, and Saint Kizito and his companions
  9. They were witnesses of the faith, martyrs who never succumbed to the logic of violence, but proclaimed by their lives the power of love and forgiveness.
  10. Blessed Isidore Bakanja, your brother who was brutally tortured because he refused to conceal his piety and proposed Christianity to other young people
  11. Floribert Bwana Chui, who fifteen years ago, at only twenty-six years old, was killed in Goma for having blocked the passage of spoiled foodstuffs that would have been harmful for people’s health
  12. Christians cannot fail to be honest; otherwise, they betray their identity - “Do not be overcome by evil; but overcome evil with good” (Rom 12:21).
  13. To forgive does not mean forgetting the past; it means refusing to repeat it. To forgive is to change the course of history. It is to raise up those who have fallen. It is to accept the idea that no one is perfect and that everyone, not just myself, has the right to make a new start.
  14. Those who forgive bring Jesus even to places where he is not welcomed; they bring love to places where love is rejected. Those who forgive build the future
  15. Every time we confess our sins, we receive in our hearts the power that changes history. God always forgives us, always and freely! And we are then told, as the Gospel says: to “go and do likewise” (Lk 10:37)
  16. SERVICE - What can I do for others? In other words, how can I serve the Church, my community, my country?
  17. PRAYER MEETING WITH PRIESTS, DEACONS, CONSECRATED PERSONS AND SEMINARIANS Cathedral “Notre Dame du Congo” (Kinshasa) - Wednesday, 2 February 2023 we feel enveloped by his light, comforted by his Spirit, encouraged by his word and sustained by his love
  18. Cardinal Ambongo’s words of welcome,
  19. it is a mission to act as signs of Christ’s presence, his unconditional love, his reconciliation and forgiveness, and his compassionate concern for the needs of the poor.
  20. If we experience our vocation in this way, we will always have challenges to face and temptations to overcome - mediocrity, worldly comfort, and superficiality
  21. Prayer takes the focus off ourselves, it opens us up to God, and it puts us back on our feet because it puts us in his hands. It creates in us the space to be able to experience God’s closeness, so that his word becomes familiar to us and, through us, to all those whom we meet.
  22. How beautiful it is,… to be transparent in our intentions and free from compromise with money, joyfully embracing evangelical poverty
  23. they need priests and religious who are educated, well trained and passionate about the Gospel
  24. “your witness to living together in peace, over ethnic and racial lines, can touch hearts” (Africae Munus, 108). – Benedicto XVI
  25. We need the ability to be flexible, to overcome rigidity, and to cultivate a docile spirit that refuses to yield to bitterness and resentment
  26. MEETING with the BISHOPS of the CONGO - CENCO (Kinshasa) - Friday, 3rd February 2023
  27. Yours is a Church present in the lived history of this people, deeply rooted in its daily life, and in the forefront of charity. It is a community capable of attracting others, filled with infectious enthusiasm and therefore, like your forests, with plenty of “oxygen”. Thank you, because you are a lung that helps the universal Church breathe!
  28. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you” (Jer 1:5). We who have been called to be shepherds of God’s People, to rely on this closeness of the Lord, “to form ourselves in prayer”, and to spend a good deal of time in his presence.
  29. they must touch wounds and communicate God’s closeness, so that people can realize their dignity as his beloved children and learn to walk with their heads held high,
  30. let us become in turn channels of consolation and reconciliation for others, to heal the wounds of those who suffer, to ease the pain of those who weep, to lift up the poor and to set individuals free from manifold forms of slavery and oppression.
  31. “There is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot” (Jer 20:9).
  32. We are called, then, to pluck up the poisonous plants of hatred and selfishness, anger, resentment and violence; to break down the altars erected to money and corruption;
  33. to build a coexistence based on justice, truth and peace; and finally, to plant the seeds of rebirth, so that tomorrow’s Congo will truly be what the Lord dreams of: a blessed and happy land, no longer exploited, oppressed and drenched in blood
  34. priests are those closest to the Bishop, concern for pastoral workers and encourage-ment to work together in a synodal spirit. And witness, since the Church’s pastors must first and foremost be credible, particularly in their work of fostering communion, in their moral life and in their administration of goods.
  35. The governance of the Bishop must be that of a pastor; in front of the flock, in the midst of the flock, and behind the flock. – the Servant of God Archbishop Christophe Munzihirwa, a courageous shepherd and prophetic voice, who defended his people by offering his life. “What can we still do these days? Let us remain firm in faith
  36. I think of the benefit I personally derived from knowing Cardinal Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya. - Be witnesses of mercy and reconciliation amid the violence unleashed not only by the exploitation of resources and by ethnic and tribal conflicts, but also and above all by the dark power of the evil one, the enemy of God and humanity.
  37. You have had the patience to wait for a new year, you are good! Thank you for this! You had to work twice as hard, because the first visit was cancelled, but I know that you will forgive the Pope!
  38. Always forgive in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. In this way, you will sow forgiveness for society as a whole.
